I’m trying to understand this Papa Murphy’s pizza, at first I thought it was a pizza chain restaurant, but now it sounds more like a Digiorno frozen pizza at the supermarket kinda deal?

It’s not frozen. And the ingredients are better. And there are more of them.

And them preparing the pizza takes less time, so you’re in and out of the store in no time even if you don’t call ahead.

Wait, it’s not frozen? First time I’m hearing that.

We don’t have freezers. We don’t pour cheese pellets from a bag. Instead, we make dough from scratch, shred cheese from blocks, and chop veggies by hand. It’s how you’d want to make a pizza if you had all day to do it.

Is this the part where I said it was a joke and you say you know but you responded literally anyway?

You know what would make that blurb even better? If they also cooked it for you. I really don’t understand what’s so great about having all the benefits of a pizzeria but just not cooking it.

I suppose it’s cheaper, it’s faster to pick up, you don’t have to eat it right when you bought it, and you can eat it at home right after you cook it instead of it cooling off during travel time. Also, pizzerias with ovens spend more on overhead, so either they could then spend the money saved on better ingredients and/or on offering a lower price.

Their model makes sense. It’s just that if I’ve planned ahead that I’m getting pizza and resigned myself to going and pick it up… I’m going to go for the place that also Cooks it for me and as a result is probably better. Sure papa smurfys is better than frozen, but I don’t see any reason why I would need something that is in between a frozen pizza and a restaurant pizza.

Because I like the pizza better when it’s hot right out of the oven. That is harder to get unless I eat it at the restaurant. Typical travel time of a half hour before I get a cooked pizza home and served, it’s already cooled off and partially congealed. With Papa Murphy’s it’s like I’m eating it at the restaurant when it’s still fresh out of the oven. I can also cook it to exactly the done-ness I prefer.

So is anyone else eating leftover pizza tonight bc of this thread?

If I could pick it up at your house and then cook it at mine that would be great.

I had stromboli for lunch, which was a let down. I should have had a slice. Frink inspired my soon-to-be dinner: pizza burger.

Sounds great. I got a Papa Murphy’s, cut it and half, cooked one half, and froze the second. It’s defrosting now. Come over in 20 minutes.

Mmm, but I’m also the guy who orders a hot chocolate at the coffee shop (I don’t drink coffee) and has to wait another 45 minutes until it’s cool enough to drink.

Why not just order powdered cocoa and then cook it at home?

Why do I have to wait 20 minutes?

Defrosting before transport is always good practice. You wouldn’t want your pizza to shatter when you go over a speed bump too fast, would you?

All of this and it tastes better than other chain pizza places pizzas.

Turns out the real life solution is to order a kids hot chocolate. Added bonus is you can sometimes drink it out of a Barney cup.

I’m not sure what you guys don’t get about “it tastes really good.”

I said that it’s great because it tastes good, and is great quality people pizza for the price, not because take n bake is genius. It is a good system though, as the above explain.

My mom’s pizza is pretty good. We have a pizza oven and every Sunday we have homemade pizza for dinner and it’s delicious. My second favorite pizza would be a pizza I ate in Milan, and my third favorite a local pizza place’s pizza. I dislike Domino’s with all of my strengths though - pretty much the fast food of pizza and it’s trash. Sometimes it’s good, but I only have it once a year or less.

Domino’s is not what pizza is “supposed” to taste like, but the flavor it provides is one that I like.

I haven’t had Domino’s in a long time, but Pizza Hut is disgusting and Little Caesar’s is kind of gross (their Italian cheese bread is great though). I don’t actually mind eating those fast food pizzas though.

That’s like saying you like eating turds even though it’s a turd.

The pizza is a little gross, but there’s some flavor in the cheese and it’s an easy five dollar meal. My friends and I get Little Caesar’s on most days we play DnD because it’s cheap and fills us up. And when we get them cheese breads with it, it’s all good.

My wife and I have learned that it takes us about 20 minutes to get out of work clothes, make a salad, pour some wine, set up a movie, and kick back. If I pick up a Papa Murphy’s on the way home, it’s fresh out of the oven right about when we’re ready to eat, and tastes homemade. If I pick up from Round Table (across the street from Murph’s), we’re talking 45 minutes of congealing before we ever sit down for a bite.

Murphy’s also keeps costs down (and thus prices) by having small takeout stores - no ovens, no waiters, no tables, no drinks or liquor license, all they do is make dough and assemble the pizza you want. The hard part about making a pizza is kneeding the dough and slicing the ingredients, not the cooking - that part’s easy.

There’s a rule that DnD food must be lowbrow. It’s in the Cook’s Handbook I think. Gourmet food can get a pass if it’s greasy enough.

I’ve never had Papa Murphy’s so I can’t comment on the taste, but the inconvenience of it makes me not really care to try. As for it being warm enough, I tend to find the drive home is usually just the right amount of time to keep a pizza warm without me burning myself as soon as I try to eat it.
