I’m gonna be more cautious with my expectations on this Star Wars than I did with TLJ.

Something that hit me today is this whole movie is essentially a giant “Han shot last”. Everyone freaked out at changing Han in ANH from shooting first because it changed his character from a ruthless scoundrel selfish smuggler who has no problem killing who made friends and turned out to be a hero in the end to somebody who was “always good” and would never shoot first, or at least without provocation. This movie will unavoidably portray Han in a heroic light (because that’s what Star Wars is) which completely undermines his OT arc worse than shooting last did in the SE.
I can still enjoy it, though. But yeah, that guy is not Han. No way no how. Donald Glover looks amazing as Lando, though.
I do wish that the film looked more vibrant and colourful like the posters make it out to be. Yet we still have that grit stark contrasting light. I don’t mind a gritty look, but we’ve had it in 3 movies now. It’d be nice to have a change of style. Those poster look awesome. Kind of like a 60s sci-fi/70s western look.
It looks like he participates in some sort of train heist and if the toy photo spoilers are correct, we’ll be seeing Han’s best known employer, (the one he used to smuggle drugs for) as well.
Mind you, Han did do heroic things in the Brain Daley books, but he was still pretty much looking out for himself and Chewie.
Where were you in '77?
Aaaaand… everyone in the comments is complaining.
I thought it looked pretty rad, I’m definitely gonna see it.
Not enough people read the EU.
They had me at the Tag and Bink cameos. : )

It seems like they are using a lot of concepts from both the Brian Daley and A.C. Crispin novels , I thought the trailers looked pretty good , Alden has big shoes to fill. When he did the voice over about being in the streets since 10 years old , did anyone else think it sounded like Ray Liotta in Goodfellas ? the last bit of dialogue Alden spoke as Han sounded a little too high pitched but other than that , I can’t nitpick too much .I will reserve judgement for when I see the movie . All of this makes me wonder how James Bond fans felt after Sean Connery left and others played the role .
The teaser trailer.
Not as good as the TV Spot. Im thiking of recuting the Two trailers. Also At the beginning we hear a Guiter solo. (Oh that was Pun, I am sorry.)
“Get over violence, madness and death? What else is there?”

Lol marketing is getting nuts. Commercials for commercials.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

Ill fix it.

I’m not even sure we’ll get a trailer at all.
I’d be extremely surprised if that happens. I bet we get at least one more.
I’m sure there are multiple trailers, TV spots and foreign ads yet to come.

I’m definitely going to see it too. That doesn’t mean I can’t point out things I don’t like and that doesn’t mean I’m complaining.

I had similar reservations at first, but I really don’t buy that Han was a horrible person pre-OT anyway.
Law breaker? Yeah.
Drug smuggler? Yeah.
Arrogant? Yeah.
Kill rather than be killed? Yeah.
“No problem with killing”? No, he’s not a murderer and I don’t believe he’s the kinda guy who kills without reason.
I have friends who fit this description. And while they aren’t involved in shootouts on the reg, I assure you they (and me) would rather shoot than be shot and wouldn’t wait for the gun pointed at them to go off before pulling the trigger. (again, it’s not a situation we find ourselves in, but I don’t have to wonder what would happen.)
Even with all that said, I just doubt anybody could play the character and make me believe it’s Han. He’s my favorite character to ever appear in anything. If not for Han, I’d never have gotten into StarWars. I’m willing to give it a chance though.
I think one of my biggest problems with Ehrenreich’s Han is his hair. I just need to remember he’s younger, therefore the different/longer hair. Weird thing is that I don’t seem to have that problem with Glover’s Lando.
My biggest problem with the trailer is it’s a trailer and doesn’t mean anything.
So I enjoyed watching it but I take zero out of it.
Ehrenreich seems to have Han’s mannerisms down. It’s all going to boil down to whether us old fogeys accept him as Han Solo or not. I had no problems accepting the cast of Star Trek 2009, because in the end I saw Kirk Spock and McCoy on the screen even if they were being portrayed by different actors.
In the end Ehrenreich has to be Han, not Harrison. If he can make Han his own, it’s going to be a fun ride.Yes!! That’s it exactly. Well put Wook. He has to be Han, not Ford. Good point on Trek. As I’ve said many times before, if you can recast Kirk, Spock, and McCoy (and they did a fantastic job), you can recast anyone.
Well… I don’t think I see Kirk, Spock and McCoy with the nuTrek movies. Spock might be the worst. Not because of the actor, but because of the writing. Pretty sure in the end this Solo movie will be another Disney flick to be ranked just between ANH/TESB and ROTJ by most of the OT.com members anyway, so no worries guys 😃

The new Spock doesn’t work. He’s meant to be an emotionless Vulcan but actually translates onscreen to being a constantly grumpy and irritated dude. You also have no reason to believe he would become best friends with the new Kirk who is basically boiled down to being a jock flyboy who’s main thing is just to disobey every order.
TLDR: The new Star Trek movies minus Beyond (which is delightful) are dumb action movies with poorly written characters.

Leonard Nimoy maintained that while his iconic character may have been seen as cold and unemotional, he always played him as “a guy trying to keep his emotions in check.”
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)

I thought Perry King was pretty good as Han in the OT radio drama adaptations.

I disagree with all of this (Beyond is my least favorite) but also Han Solo thread.

Snoke is a false flag.
If you were half the man he was !

Me too. He plays him as more of a criminal not to be trusted. At one point he’s going to leave them all on the Death Star and bail if he can get to the Falcon before Luke, Ben, and Leia.

No TLJ spoilers. 😉
