Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers ** — Page 67

Judging a performance based off a short trailer doesn’t seem like a good idea.

But trailers are designed to maximise the hype, and presumably this was the best they could do in terms of crowd pleasing sound bites even after all the delays.

Well I can’t speak for what bits they used, as I haven’t seen the trailer. But maybe they just didn’t choose the moments based on where Alden looks/sounds the most like Harrison Ford. Or maybe Alden just decided not to do a Harrison Ford impression. Doesn’t mean it’s not a good performance that evokes the character. You can’t judge this sort of thing based on little bits, whether they showcase the best or the worst of the overall performance.

Well I haven’t seen it but I’m electing to defend it regardless!

The droid makes me think of Bollux from the Brian Daley novels. I hope someone refers to Chewie as The Wook. : )

Someone will have to explain away Chewie’s bandolier changing after ROTS, and back again before the OT. 😛

Yeah, I was wondering if he’s supposed to be Bollux or maybe Vuffi Raa in name only. Probably just an original character all around though.

You will never see me say that a trailer proves a performance will be bad or “wrong.” I just on principle don’t think it’s a fair indication.

Oh man! I forgot all about Vuffi Raa! He kind of was included with the Falcon when Lando bought it? Been ages since I read the Lando books.

As it should be, frankly.

No one is going to do a bang up impersonation of another actor and still be effective in the role because more times than not it comes off half baked.

I am quite happy to let this movie entertain me…or not but it won’t be due to the title actor not being able to sound like Harrison Ford but whether the movie as a whole is something I like.

Btw does that guy really look like Lando either? Doesn’t to me but that’s OK.

Glover is definitely more Lando than Ehrenreich is Solo.

How do you know that? Glover has like, a few seconds of standing still in the teaser?

Let me rephrase that.

Glover definitely looks more like Lando than Ehrenreich looks like Solo to me.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

It’s weird that praise is never questioned but the slightest criticism always is.

Yes, the people criticizing things never question the praise for these things.

I don’t see anyone here making declarative statements like "this trailer proves the movie will be great, or “this trailer proves Glover has nailed Lando.” I mostly just see people saying “that looks cool.” You don’t need context to think something looks cool. Even if in the final film the cool looking thing is out of place and ultimately bad, it can still look cool on its own.

Well of course he seems more like Lando, they didn’t let him speak. The TV spot was better because it had less dialogue. Amelia Clarke was given dialogue in the full teaser. These are not good omens.

Ehrenreich seems to have Han’s mannerisms down. It’s all going to boil down to whether us old fogeys accept him as Han Solo or not. I had no problems accepting the cast of Star Trek 2009, because in the end I saw Kirk Spock and McCoy on the screen even if they were being portrayed by different actors.
In the end Ehrenreich has to be Han, not Harrison. If he can make Han his own, it’s going to be a fun ride.

Yeah, it’s a teaser trailer. As in, it’s designed to tease you with glimpses of the movie and give you a vague idea of the tone and feel.

If they were worried about the performances the lead actors were giving they’d have surely picked the best moments and lines and shoved them repeatedly in our faces. All we got was a nice little delivery of a line that had a gentle reference to episode IV and a nice bit of body language when Qi’ra (?) said that line at the end to him.

It’s a teaser trailer, you’ll get yourself in a right state if you read too much into it.

HelloGreedo’s trailer review. One of the more level-headed reactions/reviews on YouTube.

I also agree that the most important part about Ehrenreich’s performance will hinge on his attitude, not how he looks or what he sounds like, but if he manages to capture the attitude of Han Solo. And of course this is a backstory film, so he won’t be exactly like Han in the OT. This one should be less experienced, cocky externally but less sure of himself internally.
