Someone should make a movie about Oscar Pistorius.

Blade Runner 2049

Second viewing of the film, and I think I appreciated it even more. Just a well rounded film, and the biggest complaint many had was its length, but I think it was to its benefit. I’m intrigued by the possibility of future films, but I really don’t know how you could continue from there. It felt like a good close.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Duracell liked 2049! This makes me happy.

Oh, and welcome back!

I am curious to hear your thoughts on Spidey Homecoming DE, if you care to share.

I can’t support a system that makes it impossible to score a perfect 10, even though I dunno if I’d give any film a perfect score.

I personally don’t consider 10/10 to mean “perfect,” otherwise it’s completely useless.

Jason and the Argonauts
Great effects, the first half hour was pretty uneventful and the revenge plot really went nowhere, but Harryhausen’s effects hold up and it was quite the spectacle.

Tom Holland was good. Michael Keaton was good if I pretended he wasn’t the Vulture. Everything else about the movie — the casting, the characterization, Iron Man’s omnipresence in the plot, the high-tech spider-suit — was so far off base of the source material that it pissed me right off.

At this point, it’s safe to say that aside from the Daredevil & Punisher series’, I’m completely done with the MCU. Aside from the first Captain America movie, I haven’t really liked any of the films anyway.

IIRC, they were thinking of a sequel, (hence the line from Zeus I have not yet finished with Jason) but the movie didn’t do as well as it should have at the box office because many people thought it was yet another Italian sword and sandal flick. Ironically, I’ve seen some of those movies use the same locations as Jason.

It’s still pretty fun, even if the pacing lags a little in places. It has production values that most sword-and-sandal movies can only dream of.

No Country for Old Men

Might be one of the most outstanding movies I have ever seen.

Ugh.

Of course you did.

What is that supposed to mean?

I have legitimate grievances, like how you don’t even know the protagonist’s name until well into the film; how Woody Harrelson’s character’s sideplot was completely pointless; how the climax of the film happens offscreen; how depressing the ending was; or how I felt duped into watching it because it was nominated for eight Oscars while winning four of them including Best Picture.

That was the last time I cared about films winning Oscars. Boss Baby getting nominated recently kind of confirms it.

Did you even watch the movie? I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to feel unsatisfied. And don’t you learn his name when he goes home to his wife? I didn’t think that was more than 25 minutes in.

Hahahaha you basically just put No Country for Old Men and Boss Baby in the same sentence.

Perhaps I wasn’t satisfied with feeling unsatisfied.

25 minutes is well into the film. We’re following this guy for a long time without knowing who he is or why we should even care. It’s not like we’d been following other plot elements until he gets introduced later a la Luke Skywalker.

JEDIT: I’m not saying it’s objectively awful. I’m saying it didn’t meet my expectations, it’s apparently not my kind of film (being a “neo-western neo-noir thriller”, as Wiki puts it), and I just generally did not enjoy myself while watching it. I watched it on a whim with my Dad, as we went to the theatre to see what movies were playing, and the book they had there said it won Best Picture. Apparently that was a mistake. My Dad doesn’t even remember what the film was about when I cite it as an example of Best Picture winners not necessarily being subjectively enjoyable movies.

Which seems to be the biggest reason that people hated TLJ! Even if they won’t admit it.
