Ender’s Game

meh. The book was better.

I so wanted this film to be awesome. It still has value, but man, they cut too much of the story IMO. Book is way better. Should have been a two part movie.

I thought it moved fairly smoothly. Card even says in the afterword that if there was ever a film, that he’d have removed most of the Locke and Demosthenes storyline.

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one.”

Card also later decided Bean should be the real mastermind and ender be a pawn so

It’s bean a few years (hah) but I seem to remember liking the film, but also thinking it could have been better.

Family, for some reason, decided tonight was a good night for a spontaneous movie night and let me pick the movie.

Arrival (2016) - 5/5

Reactions:
DAD: "Good movie."
MOM: "Pretty cool."
SISTER: *asleep*

Sounds about right.

Sullivan’s Travels (1941)
Excellent. You can’t take everything so seriously.

Star Wars (1977)

Concluded I’ve been lying all these years I’ve been telling people The Empire Strikes Back is my favorite Star Wars movie. Peer pressure, I guess. I’m just so happy when I’m watching the one that started it all!

This one sees the truth!

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

The Neon Demon (2016)

I have no idea how to rate this. Loved Drive, thought Only God Forgives was pretty good, thought Valhalla Rising was weird. I guess this falls closer to the last one than the first two. It’s well acted and directed, but it kinda felt like a Lynch movie, so I lean towards not liking it.

5/10

Side note: It made $1.3m. How is that even possible?

Frink, have you seen Bronson? It’s (in my opinion) Refn’s best film after Drive.

I have not, but it’s on my list now. Thanks.

That it made that little or that it made that much?

That little. I think my last edit made that much.

Babel
What a sad film. The Japanese storyline was the most interesting, the most powerful, and the most heartbreaking. I almost wish that’s all the film focused on.

The Foreigner (2017)

This is two movies. One is an engaging story of revenge through the eyes of Jackie Chan, the other is an overcomplicated and dull political ‘thriller’. Too bad that Chan is basically a side character who could be removed from the plot with no repercussions.

What a waste.

Hahahaha, my kids just saw Babe recently, and so I somehow saw the “l” as an exclamation mark, and I thought you were just excited about it for some reason. And then you described a version of Babe I’m completely unfamiliar with.

Ooo Oo!! Fan edit/mashup idea! Recut Babe (and a bunch of other animal movies) to the audio from Babel. Call it “Babe…l”

I think you’re confusing this with Attack of the Clones.

I’d happily watch a movie where Jackie Chan avenges the death of his daughter who happened to be on the landing pad at the beginning of AOTC.

Asylum (1972)
Managed to get the new Severin Amicus Collection today, and watched this. I loved every minute of it! Peter Cushing is great, as always, and the other three stories aren’t too bad either. Of the two Amicus anthology horror movies I’ve seen (the other being Tales From the Crypt), this is the superior film. It’s just so much fun.
