Me too! I saw it back on the early 90s at Eltree. It was the first time Warrick had shown it to a public audience.

There were some great little moments in there!

Any help on getting it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Review: Return of the Ewok

Star Wars Return of the Ewok (1983)
Length: Various
Rated: G
Format: Full and Widescreen Mix 1:33.1
Language: English 2.0

It may have taken a small eternity, but the wait is over and the original Star Wars Return of the Ewok makes its DVD release debut courtesy of OCPMOVIE and as a extra the DVD is filled with bonus materials.
Expectations for this release ran high. So, I was eager to find out how the DVD set would satisfy my expectations.

This is a reconstruction of the original version with a combination of the hyperspace footage intergrated with a grainy yet very well restored version of the film. This is not the shortened version on STARWARS.COM. The true fans like us deserve better and OCPMOVIE delivers the goods.

I’ve been following OCPMOVIES for a few months now and quite frankly, I am impressed.
Overall the film exhibits a much stronger resemblance to what we are missing in poking fun and having fun. Frankly, I can't remember the last time a film was released that was from the heart such as this film.

On the presentation side, the DVD version is nothing but simply jaw-dropping. I can guarantee that you have never seen this movie short like this before, ever. The image quality is phenomenal for what was available with a razor sharp image that holds a level of detail even in transition with the original short print. Every single frame of this movie had to have been cleaned up to remove specks of dust or grain. As I watched I was feeling the pain of how much effort was put into every single frame. The result is an image that rivals most high end VHS recordings.
The thing that amazed me the most is the amazing level of detail and sharp editing the presentation, making the viewing simply and utterly breath-taking.

On the audio side things are equally very good considering the source. With aggressive seamless sound usage, the tracks are as identical kinetic as the movie it self. I could not tell the differnece between the two sources. No matter how well you know about this release I am sure you will still be able to hear things here you have not heard anywhere before.

You will also be treated to a good selection of special features as well as a beautiful title menu that is very cool. Infact, the menu was easy to navigate which was great for people such as my father who is sort of old school on all this DVD stuff. ie: "Do I hit where it say's play movie", laugh out loud!

The vision, of the one who would take this simple movie short and restore it to whats released is awesome.

Once again, OCPMOVIE delivers the goods in serving up a release like this.
This is "Return of the Ewok as it was meant to be seen and I am glad I had the opportunity and the privilege of that experience.

Once again, outstanding work.
The Return of the Ewok Disc was awesome

As soon as I recieve the final print of OCP Releases Classic Edition I will be in heaven because if it was anything like this I am in for a treat.

Peace

Remember, Highlander, you’ve both still got your full measure of life. Use it well, and your future will be glorious.

Heheh. Thanks Mitch, but what are you smoking .... the quality on most of Return of the Ewok is a camcorder bootleg made by a fan ... the quality ain't great but it is what it is. I did go through and clean it up as best I could, make it look betters and seamlessly transition to the clips posted at Hyperspace.

I should point that out so people aren't expecting DVD quality! =) Just a nice, watchable quality version of a great, great short film.

Thanks, and all the best ...

Hey OCPMovie,

Is it too late to get you to send me a copy of this? Its beginning to look like nobodys interested in torrenting it. If you can help me out, I'd be happy to torrent it for the others.

My discs are always available direct from me, yeah. As I said, I don't torrent my own movies. I'm on a slow connection. I send them via regular mail, with labels. Other people can torrent them if they like. =)

Well I figured i'd lump this question in here as this thread deals with all obscurities for the most part, but in regards to the Holiday Special I came across this statement lately:

"Along with the TV special, the 1980 CHRISTMAS IN THE STARS-THE STAR WARS CHRISTMAS ALBUM is not to be missed. Put together by Meco(of the Star Wars Disco hit fame) featured R2D2 and Anthony Daniels as 3-CPO and an early career vocal by Jon Bongiovi,it's a hoot on a near equal scale of the TV special("What Do You Get a Wookie for Christmas When He Already Has a Comb?"-priceless). It was originally released on Robert Stigwood's RSO label(of GREASE and SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER fame)and was rereleased on CD in the '90s on Rhino(though currently out of print)."

Anyone own or heard about this at all? A rip of this I think would be an awesome bonus to any DVD version of the HS...

I had that album on CD, but have since misplaced it. I never even actually listened to it. It scared me.

I think it was extra DVD-rom content on one of the discs posted over at Myspleen, I'm guessing the Magnoliafan Phantom Edit 1.2 if anything, as I couldn't find it with any of the others, and I couldn't check that one, as it's a rar originally (thus no way to check the file contents) and I'm not sure where I put the extra DVD-rom content for that disc. If I'm wrong and it wasn't I do have mp3s somewhere though.

Very close, Aziraphale, but not the 1.2 Re-Edit.
It's packaged with MagnoliaFan's The Clone War XviD torrent seeded by Blaksvn.

The CD version has been out of print for a while, and it goes on eBay for way too much money. I bought my copy at the Star Wars exhibit at the Smithsonian in 1997(?). Overall, it's really amusing and I listen to it every holiday season, but some of it is pretty grating. I even saw one CD edition once that had no Star Wars artwork on it, I'm assuming so they didn't have to pay for the image rights to the characters.

I think the review of the album on allmusic.com sums it up best: "What is mostly wrong with this album is that George Lucas does not seem to understand that the Star Wars universe and the birth of Jesus have very little to do with one another."

That review must have been written before The Phantom Menace came out.

Its too bad no one has put together a musical compilation torrent or anything...

Although it hasn't been torrented, Rikter has put together one heck of a musical compilation.
That disc has 1.1G of OGG and MP3 music in its DVD-Rom content,
in addition to the best Holiday Special available (well, equal to RowMan's I guess)

Tell me more about this version... what station did it air on? Is it as dark as RowMan's version?

The HS is from KCCI - Des Moines.
It's my understanding that Rikter got it from RowMan, before adding all the DVD-Rom contents.

dasklaun from Myspleen is offering the KCCI version for upload on the Myspleen message board, and the DVD-rom content is apparently included.

Quick question for Garrett. As Jed mentioned over in the Classic Edition thread, sometimes the dialogue in the film is a tad diffucult to understand. Did you consider adding subtitles to this disc to aid in that issue? And if you did, why did you decide against it?

I did actually consider adding subtitles. I considered against it because it would have been a heck of a lot of extra work, considering it's not really THAT hard to understand.

You're right, it's not really that bad. There were just one or two times where I instinctually went for my remote to turn on the subtitles when I couldn't understand something, but that didn't work this time. And it's totally understandable why you wouldn't want to take the time to do them in the first place.
