Are The Prequels That Bad? — Page 16

My dog’s nail clippings are more relevant than the prequel trilogy.

However, the prequel trilogy novelisations are very good - something the films should have been.

If that is true, why visit a forum specifically dedicated to Star Wars (and especially to the original Original Trilogy)?

As far as I’m concerned, I think that I’m a huge SW fan (I even like the prelogy), and I think that ANH and ESB are two of the most accomplished, personal, influential and yet successful movies in the history of cinema. So I think I have good reasons to visit this forum.
But I don’t like ROTJ at all, I could even say that I hate this movie. Not because of the story or the characters, but because of the way it was scripted, filmed and directed. But I remain a fan of the entire story (from episode 1 to 7).

And Luke and Leia being brother and sister is pretty ridiculous and gross.

But not as ridiculous and gross like this TPM exquisite dialogue:

Padme: "You’re a pilot?"
Little Ani: “Mmhm. All my life.”

A 9-year old boy tells us that he has been a pilot ALL-OF-HIS-LIFESPAN.
9 years old … and he talks about that pilot stuff like he is in his mid 50s.

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Come on, he is a 9 YEAR OLD BOY. Of course he exaggerates in talking about his life. Like every child does.
FYC: I‘m not defending the poorly written character at all… just saying!

Yes, nine year olds are generally irritating and kinda dumb, they definitely nailed that. Doesn’t make it good filmmaking though

After “all Star Wars movies are bad”, here comes “the PT is bad on purpose”, e.g. “in Episode 2, Anakin is the perfect portrayal of an annoying teenager”. The problem is not that these characters are totally unrealistic, the problem is that they are not compelling at all. I don’t want to spend two hours watching a movie with an obnoxious protagonist, no matter how convincingly his obnoxiousness is portrayed.

Ceci n’est pas une signature.

Anyone who saw the behind the scenes doc on TPM, watched the three kids they test screened, and then watched them pick the worst one of the three, and still defends how Anakin was portrayed…sorry, no.

I like TPM and I’m so sorry to say that but… you are right!

If I recall correctly, that doc seemed to have some talking about how Jake looked similar enough to Mark to convincingly be related. Like, literally they held a photo of both up next to each other and remarked about it before they decided.

that sounds like more evidence of a poorly produced movie.

Of the three, the blonde kid had an intensity in his delivery that would have foreshadowed Anakin’s later darkness and better connected to Episode 2. Going with Jake just goes to show how much George wanted to make the statement that Anakin began as an entirely innocent child, despite how unnatural that would be in the film.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I’d say the other two child actors dodged a bullet.

I’d like to know if those would be Anakins went on to have a career. I don’t think the doc identified them though?

If he needs to look like anyone, it’s Sebastian Shaw.
Same goes for the recast for Ep. 2 & 3.
