The Force Awakens: 1.78:1 scenes in 2D? - with recreation of IMAX scene (Released) — Page 5

 (Edited)

From this Friday (the 20th of October) evening and there probably will be a few reruns, “The Force Awakens” will air on the Disney Cinema channel in France. I can’t be sure it will be full screen with the IMAX sequence in open matte, but you never know. Sadly, this is one of the channels that protects their programs so I cannot transfer the recording to my computer. So this is just a heads-up for those who can record it and extract it from their recording devices, if any.

EDIT : nevermind, it’s in scope.

This sounds like a very interesting project. I’d like to check it out as well.

FYI, if you see Star Trek Into Darkness on the “Compendium” blu-ray release (it also includes the 2009 Star Trek), the IMAX sequences are expanded to fill the whole screen, just as the Dark Knight did it. Not so on the regular blu-ray release, just the Compendium. But, this is another example where that was done.

Can someone please send me the sequence in that 1.78:1 ratio? I’ve been looking for it everywhere.

Please PM it to me as well if you would be so kind, thanks!

Well, im a day late and a dollar short on this thread, but I couldnt resist not giving my 2¢. My opinion of changing AR is 2 fold. First, I HATE IT!!! I spent my entire life working hard to get a kickass home cinema to emulate the magic I experienced as a child and now some damn director wants to screw that up. Yeh, Im sure I could invest $10,000 upgrading to accomodate my current setup, but why?? I get it, I see why they might do it. But as director of a film, you should be able to convey what youre imagining in one damn format. Thats why you have lots of different lenses for your cameras. Personally, I think IMAX is a bogus AR. Sure, it fills your vision up vertically, but not horizontally.IMAX is too square for me. It should be more 2.2:1, or maybe 1.85:1 than 1.43:1. In order for an IMAX to fully emerse me in a movie (my left and right filled up), I have to sit a bit too close. Hell, outside ofsitting near the front, you cant even see the bottom of the screen, so why have the sides all of the sudden become so sacred??
I did say two fold. I do understand why directors do it. Hell, I never even noticed the DK had changing AR for the longest. Once I did, it bugged the hell out of me. But that was a small screen. I guess in a large theatre, it succeeds in conveying the affect the director wanted, especially if youre not concious of it like I was. But I will still stand my comment that a director should be able to succeed in conveying a ceratain mood or effect without changing AR’s by the use of lenses. Just me.

Then you DEFINITELY don’t want to see Kong: Skull Island! I watched it last night via HBO streaming and the aspect ratio literally changed shot-to-shot for the entire film. It drove me nuts! Haha I don’t mind it if it’s for a scene here or there, as in TFA, but this was horribly distracting and amateurish.

What can you get a Wookiee for (Life Day) Christmas when he already owns a comb?

I would be interested in the IMAX scene as well.

The HBO version of Kong changes shot for shot to preserve certain framing. The theatrical version and the Blu-ray are locked 2.4:1.

Yeah, I got it to play in VLC by changing the demuxer to h.264, but it really should be in a more useable format.

I agree. Is there a way to just drop that file into the blu ray. (I have made a copy of it on my computer). If not, that’s fine, I was starting work on a bd50 with the full movie.

So I know I’ve sent these files to a lot of people on this forum, and unfortunately the links no longer work. My hard drive malfunctioned and I was wondering if someone had the (45 Gig or so) “IMAX SCENE REINTEGRATED INTO BLU-RAY” file on hand that they could send me? Ironic huh, I sent all these people files and now I can’t get one for myself, haha. Thank You so much to anyone who might be able to send the file over my way.
