Why not call it something like Little Wing or Kessel Run or Space Race or something that is just a normal title? Why does it have to include Han’s name. From a marketing purpose I know why, but from an artistic point of view it’s forced.

Thing is, “A Star Wars Story” was only used for marketing for Rogue One. The movie itself is just Rogue One on the title card, not even Star Wars: Rogue One. Like how Die Hard 2 is just Die Hard 2 - the “Die Harder” part was just a tagline for marketing purposes that was always put right under the title so everyone calls it that. Or the first X-Files movie - “Fight the Future” doesn’t appear in the movie itself, just The X-Files.

If Solo follows suit with Rogue One, the title will just be Solo. “A Star Wars Story” is just a marketing tagline.

Solo: A Star Wars Story doesn’t sound good to me. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story sounded more fluid. Solo on its own sounds good. Technically A Star Wars Story is just a little tagline while the movies are just called Rogue One or Solo.

Yes this.
I still don’t like the title Solo though.
I would prefer something like “At Stars End - a Han Solo adventure” Something that sounds like an old serial.
(really I’m not interested enough to be bothered. but an interesting title could have had some spark)

I’ve got no problem with the “a Star Wars story” part. Keeps the fairy tale vibe and it’s proper branding.
I think it’s a good tag for the spin-offs.

Agreed and it’s a good way of letting the audience know not to expect a Star Wars movie by the numbers like a proper episode would be (ie. “this is a star wars STORY, not a star wars MOVIE”) which is why I don’t mind the differences in R1 to what you normally expect in a Star Wars movie from one of the official trilogies.

For an alternate movie title, how about “The Blue Falcon”? Think “Green Hornet” and just give Han and Chewie some masks ;P

Or maybe “The adventures of Nerf Herder and Walking Carpet” XD

I wasn’t going to comment on the actual name, just how similar to the ESB design the title has.

I seriously doubt any anthology movie will have a crawl unless it’s part of its own self-contained series (like, say, the Old Republic trilogy that I’m still convinced they’ll do between Episodes IX and X).

How about First Shot - A Star Wars Story 😉

With a fitting poster that resembles this one from First Blood:

f

Han Solo - This time he is gambling for his life …

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

It was a joke. Making fun of everyone who found Rogue One unoriginal but also were mad there was no crawl.

To clarify, I’ve no problem with the simple existence of the “A Star Wars Story” suffix. Its use here with a solo word just kind of blends wrong to me.

I hear you. I think the same thing.
Han Solo A Star Wars Story flows better.

I was really hoping they’d go the Indy route and make it Han Solo and the ______.

That’s the title for the sequels and later home video releases.

So I just had a random thought when looking through the DVD cover / artwork subforum and came across the image again showing the confirmed movie name of “SOLO” - its obviously meant as a play on the title itself, being a single word title but I’m thinking it will have another if not more connotations within the movie itself such as Han starting out “solo” by himself and not hooking up with Chewie until later in the movie.

What do others think and are there any other examples where you think this play on the title has been worked into the story or comments on some aspect of it?
