On the other hand - I, like you (probably), see value or hold nostalgic value in nearly all ROTJ scenes so it will be quite hard for me to actually see scenes cut from it.

This nostalgia is clearly blinding you to some of ROTJ’s lesser points.
The rescue from Jabba’s palace is a mess. Luke’s plan seems to be “Ok, everybody go in and get caught, then I’ll show up and get caught. Then, just before I’m executed, I’ll kill everybody!” And then there’s the horribly silly muppets everywhere. And the general cornyness. And the burp jokes. And the lightsaber working like a baseball bat. And the terrible monster masks. And the repeated audio from Star Wars. And the whole thing drags on and on to the point that it seems that the whole movie will be about our hero’s escaping from Luke’s poorly thought out plan.

I am curious to what extent ady means when he calls this a fan edit.

With ESBR and ANHR (Purist) you had basically the same films, edit-wise (besides small, almost unnoticeable adjustments), with the idea being a sort of special special edition, meaning mostly visual fixes. I wonder if the special special edition changes to ROTJ inherently change the edit in larger ways (i.e. alternate Boba death, additional and/or different pilots and fighters, additional and/or different battle scenes on Endor, etc.). Basically I’m curious if there’s really much of any editing planned beyond what is necessary to implement the new elements and maintain a good pace.

I’ll take it either way, of course.

I think we can expect to see a few changes in the story that go further than ANHR and ESBR - like a different death for Fett, some heavier line trimming, maybe even whole sequences cut or restructured in the battle of Endor. What I don’t think we’ll see is Ady reorganizing the film the way it’s been recommended here - cutting whole scenes, moving scenes around, adding entirely new scenes, changing introductions, etc. I don’t know, that’s just my gut feeling. Just because ROTJR is getting the heaviest editing job of the Revisited saga doesn’t mean it’s going to be a radical prequel-style edit.

I’d like to suggest completely removing the Leia and Wicket scene.

I used to think you should cut all familiar characters from the briefing scene since they mostly just bring cheese, and maybe we still should.

Cut that. Cut it cut it cut it - do it. Now.

I will not tolerate people complaining about Muppets in Jabba’s Palace. Muppets are awesome.

End of line.

Muppets are ok when they’re in their own thing and I’m not supposed to buy that they are actual living creatures. The mupets in ROTJ are awful. From design to execution.

The Muppets have an old-school charm that I appreciate. It’s okay that they don’t look real, they’re kind of hammy but in a good way imo.

Replace em with Wookies … can’t go wrong with wookies…

I honestly think he can’t make the deleted scenes work YET, but by the time he’s done he’ll have figured it out.

If Harmy and Ady team up, it could be possible. Harmy did a great job restoring some things in his despecialized. It would be a ton of work.

Adywan, I would love it if you could clip Carrie Fisher’s coke nail off.

At least all her nails in ANH are of some length (albeit yes, one is longer). In ROTJ, her other nails are trimmed short except that one.

The Obi-Wan scene is needless, all he does is tell Luke that Leia is his sister. Cut that. Cut it cut it cut it - do it. Now.
Cut this scene and leave the one where Yoda says “there is another Skywalker.” Trim the scene where Luke and Leia talk on Endor to reflect this
NOW
During the end battle Vader says “you have a twin sister” do a flash of Leia via the Force. Yads did this in one of his edits but if my memory is correct I don’t think he scrubbed all the earlier stuff. Now it was Darth Vader who told Luke that he was his father and now it is Darth Vader telling Luke that he has sister, who is now fair play as a target. The scene makes the Skywalker family tree a revelation to Luke, Vader and the Emperor. Luke losing his cool makes even more sense when you cut it this way. I’ve done an edit of RotJ using the Yads edit as a base (the Boba Fett less one) and it works very, very well.

I disagree. I think Ben needs to answer for out and out lying to Luke. If one half of that interlude needs to go it’s Yoda’s death scene. It’s awful and says less.
Particularly positioned where it is in the movie. He hangs around for the whole gap between Luke leaving for Cloud City and coming back from Jabba just to get a bit ill, tired and then die within a space of a few moments and without finishing his final sentence. The whole sequence is comically awful. George is practically screaming at the audience (I DONT WANT TO DO ANY MORE STAR WARS MOVIES). Like Boba Fett its a thing that we don’t even need to see. Luke could be on Tatooine and sense Yoda’s passing if he is a fully trained Jedi Knight. Ben however has to finish telling Luke the story of his father. I would prefer him to do that where he started on Tatooine where there is some actual resonance rather than resting his ghost butt on a tree stump on Dagobah but it’s not my show.

How would it work if Ben revealed his story to Luke on Endor after the Battle had been won? Of course, some dialogue will need to be edited out such as Luke discovering that Leia is his sister. Which would also include having to possibly bring Luke and Leia’s conversation later in the film as well like before or during the celebrations, but it would be difficult with Luke leaving to face Vader in the scene originally. It would be quite an undertaking and could it really disrupt the flow of the ending that much?!

Exposition when necessary should be a springboard. The only way you could have ghost Ben do this on Endor would be as a prelude to a prequel edit. You won, this is where you have come to, now I will tell to a tale of where you came from.
