Ah, but it was. That is one of the many story points that makes TESB the best of the films. Kersher was known for his character oriented stories and that was the main reason Lucas hired him to direct. He pulled all the emotion he could out of the script and in my mind it is only exceeded in the saga by the Luke/Vader/Palpatine scenes on the Death Star. From the ranking thread, the majority of OT members feel TESB is the best of all the films. That seems to carry over to the public at large as well. So you are really arguing against the trend to complain about what most consider the best movie and the most the most iconic line from that movie. Back in 1980, most of us couldn’t believe that it was true. It blew us away and it was awesome.

I’m actually pumped after hearing that JJ’s back. I loved The Force Awakens, and both of JJ’s Star Trek flicks. Before now I didn’t really care about this film, but now I’m hyped to see where the sequel trilogy will go. Besides, if I don’t like it, I can always go back to the EU.

It all depends on the script and whether JJ has any real powers of scrutiny when working on the story with the other writers. Star Trek Into Darkness is utter trash, and he gave a lot of odd things a pass in ST09 and TFA. The possibility remains that Johnson will produce the only above average entry in this trilogy.

There is the fact that Finn and Poe’s escape from the Finalizer had more character and excitement than all the prequels combined. If Episode 9 is the big action finish of the saga, there are much worse directors they could have chosen.

I still wish the ending of TFA had been Finn, Han, and Chewie infiltrating the Finalizer to rescue Rey while the ship and the First Order fleet attack Hosnian Prime. The movie could’ve still ended with the destruction of Hosnian Prime, the Senate, and the Republic fleet, you’d get a real space battle, and you’d ditch the Death Star 3.0 bullshit. And a lightsaber duel aboard a Star Destroyer that’s breaking apart as it’s…well…destroyed would have been amazing.
