Would it be easier to have Fett fly out of the pit before the barge goes up?

Our heroes are on the opposite side and too busy retrieving the droids to see him.

I’ve assumed Ackbar is giving the mark to the capital ships, with Lando giving the mark to the fighters.

Admiral Ackbar says “prepare to jump to hyperspace on my mark”, and Lando answers “all right, stand by”. And then he jumps into hyperspace!

Easy to fix: when Lando goes into hyper-space, just add a “oups!” (tracked from little Ani).

Yep, one of the laziest things they ever did. And then they did the same sort of thing in Rogue One! More than once! :p Even if it was tongue-in-cheekily done as an homage to the laziness of ROTJ, I still think it’s stupid.

I don’t know what you refer to. Evazan’s line is spot on, the droid I don’t remember.
Actually in RO I missed some more. For example the rebel fighter attack on the high mountain planet, it would have felt much more Star Wars-y if they’d show some cockpit shots with the usual conversation:
– Lock S-foils in attack position. Accelerate to attack speed.
– Copy Gold leader

or as I recommended on Page 2:
“Maybe it would be wise to switch the two jump segments, that the Calamari Cruser with the Admiral jumps first.
That would clearly work as a ‘MARK’ by the Admiral I guess.”

Regarding getting the Droids. I know Ady had intended on R2 NOT using his jet boosters but I actually wouldn’t mind it really. It’s just where he’d land on the skiff and of course, 3PO will end up getting picked up alone. Even if he doesn’t do it that way, I still wouldn’t mind.

“Did you know, the word ‘gullible’ is not in the dictionary?! Look it up.”

If you are using the theatrical Sarlacc Pit and adding tentacles, I have a small suggestion that I would like to see fixed is, when one of the skiff guards fall into the pit, the walls of its mouth move in a latex or cloth-like fashion, which either slightly or completely takes down the assumption that the Sarlacc is a real creature and makes it look more of a prop.

Was that a mistake, or an attempt to subliminally connect to 4?

I’m sure it was

“BEN, find us a bunch of alien dialog.”

“I could record all new–”

“Nah, just use the stuff you already have recorded.”

I was watching it again the other day and I’m pretty sure that I heard a dolphin at one point. No joke.

The capital ships going first makes sense if they’re slower, so they arrive at the same time…

Yes, it’s spot on the exact same thing he says in Star Wars (just a few days latter!) and that’s lame as all hell!

I only watched it once (but liked it) and the repeated droid voice stuck out horribly to me.

MORE repeated lines is NOT what R1 needs.
But speaking of “Copy… Gold… Leader”, I really hope that line gets a new dub for ROTJ:R. That delivery is one of the worst in the trilogy.
I’ve no doubt at all that Ady will fix all the repeated dialog and sounds in the background of ROTJ:R.

I don’t think they travel slower in hyperspace, especially if this is a coordinated attack.
And I think they should arrive ahead of the fighters to “create a defensive perimeter”. Usually fighters protect the capital ships, but in this case the fighters are needed more to survive, so when the fighters arrive, the cruisers should be in position to protect them, no matter where the Imperial attack comes from.
Ideally.
They can not be protected if it is a trap of course.

The military uses repeated dialogs, all the time.
So that is a valid expectation I would think, and not something that is disturbing.
And I think Evazan’s line is a nice touch. And that is a line he likes to use. I don’t see a problem here. Plus this makes him instantly recognizable, so this makes a slight connection with TNH.
Of course there can be difference in opinions on this.

A separate and probably unrealistic idea I once had included filming Fett crashing in the sand instead of into the sail barge. We would see him regaining consciousness just before the explosion of the sail barge, and then see him take off in Slave I after Luke and the Falcon part ways. He then shows up in the Battle of Endor, intending to take out the Falcon, but Lando outpilots him while his gunners ultimately take out Slave I. Again, I doubt it would work, but it was an interesting idea to me.

The problem is that he’s ineffective in both battles.

However, I think it’s a good idea to have him land in the sand, since he’s positioned towards Luke (and the sand) up until Luke’s infamous Force Kick where he’s seen flying at the barge at almost a right angle to Luke.
Force Fail
It would be a task of deleting Boba from that shot and instead having either a double or a CG Boba flying above the poor kicked guy towards the camera and out of frame to the left. While you’re at it, reposition Luke or the guy so that his kick actually lands.

JEDIT: Just had another idea. At the end of the infamous shot, Luke leaps down with his lightsaber in a downswing, but it doesn’t connect with anyone as usual. What if Boba flew headfirst into that downswing, and the next shot wasn’t him slamming into the barge but his head hitting the deck of the skiff? Then the next shot could still be his body (now headless) rolling down the slope into the pit.

It’s like poetry. Brutal, murderous poetry 😉

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Yeah, the military lines wouldn’t be so bad, but the guy repeating the same exact lines with the exact same inflections is stupid. If the two of 'em were in the background and didn’t say anything (they are instantly recognizable visually) it would be a cool cameo, but repeating the only scene they were ever in is silly. But this ain’t R1:R.

During the sail barge assault there also is a very weird continuity issue when Han falls from the (around 0:32:02 of Harmy’s V2.5):

shot1: https://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/325972shot1.png

shot2: https://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/737151shot2.png

Also, the rebel fleet (around 0:47:39 of Harmy’s V2.5) has some lazy effects for the ships in the back (the movement is kinda stif):

If Han is possible to fix, I would ask for the fix of Luke’s onehanded/twohanded grab of the plank. That always bothered me very much. It is just impossible, even for a Jedi. 😃

I’m glad you decided to drop the prequels. Those movies can’t be fixed. At least not to what we wanted / expected them to be.

My 2 suggestions to ROTJ-R:

  1. When Vader grabs the emperor, make some of the lighting coming from the emperor reaches Vader (if possible with some sparks from Vader’s device in his chest, to suggest it was broken by the lighting). This way it gets more clearer Vader’s sacrifice and why he died (saving Luke cost him his life support). The way it is now in the movie it seems like he “lost his will to live” 😉

  2. I think Luke should have gone back to Yoda to finish his training after ESB:R. Between the ESB and ROTJ Luke finished his training. While that was happening, the empire chased the rebels and when ROTJ begins, they are in really bad position, with the empire close to a final victory. That will increase the drama in ROTJ. A new crawl can set this to the audience.

I DO LIKE BOTH THESE IDEAS.

If it’s up for a vote I am all for cutting Boba Fett entirely from the movie. There’s an iteration of a Yads edit where this is done and it is a huge improvement, there’s actually a lot cut from the Jabba’s Palace scene and it works much better. With the new economy gained from trimming things like dumb humor, needless scenes like the torture droid and all of Boba Fett the whole sequence gains an economy and speed that conveys that Luke’s Jedi powers have grown and he is not someone to be messed with. He has a plan, he comes in and executes it and this set piece is done and we move on to the rest of the movie.

At one point, that was the plan, but Ady has stated that ROTJ:R will feature Fett and that he’ll get a “definitive death.”

One of the things ROTJ needs most is a plan to rescue Han that makes sense and is communicated easily to the audience. I feel like that’s one of the bigger hurdles for this edit.

I just donated $100. Best of luck.

I didn’t read through all 14 pages so some of these ideas on my wishlist may have been already been suggested.

*The shield generator is on the Endor Moon, so maybe on wide space shots add the planet Endor behind the moon.

*If you are adding female rebel pilots, consider re-voicing a stormtrooper, or better yet a biker scout, with a woman’s voice. I wanted to suggest that for ESB:R but it was too late.

*Would also love to see a shield aperture similar to Scarif on the Endor Moon.

*A shot with Tie-Strikers patrolling Endor.

*When you re-do the rebel hanger, a snowspeeder tucked away in a corner half covered with a tarp would be a nice tie in to ESB. Colonial Viper would be a cool Easter egg.

*Shots of rebel gunners in the Millennium Falcon.

*See different angles of the Death Star

*fix noticeable back seam on Ewok’s costume

On a side note, I have tried to find the forum for the original Star Wars: Revisited with no luck. If it is still available, could someone PM me the link? Thanks.

We all thank you for that! Wow!

I’m big on this one. Like how you can see Yavin when the ships are leaving Yavin IV.

*If you are adding female rebel pilots, consider re-voicing a stormtrooper, or better yet a biker scout, with a woman’s voice. I wanted to suggest that for ESB:R but it was too late.

I like the idea of this, but there’s only a handful of lines…

*Would also love to see a shield aperture similar to Scarif on the Endor Moon.

But the shield doesn’t protect the whole planet.

The reason they have to lower the shield for Tydirium is for that section on the ground. The entire Endor part of the movie takes place in this how-many-ever square mile area…

*A shot with Tie-Strikers patrolling Endor.

…which also limits the air stuff that can take place. The area is big enough for speeder bikes to not really worry about where they’re going, so maybe we could have some Strikers? I think Vader’s shuttle when he goes to pick up Luke doesn’t need an escort because it’s inside the shield the whole time.

*When you re-do the rebel hanger, a snowspeeder tucked away in a corner half covered with a tarp would be a nice tie in to ESB. Colonial Viper would be a cool Easter egg.

LOL, that’d be great. They do make Vipers in the right scale… 😉

*Shots of rebel gunners in the Millennium Falcon.

Could be cool.

*See different angles of the Death Star

Another thing I want.

*fix noticeable back seam on Ewok’s costume

Which one? https://starwarsscreencaps.com/star-wars-episode-vi-return-of-the-jedi-1983/

I’m not saying I’m sold on the idea yet, but you can fit Fett’s call between Jabba’s sentence and the arrival at the Pit of Carkoon. Reedit the bit where Fett uses his rope to capture Luke to make it seem like he’s trying to capture him alive, then Vader’s arrival (to an empty Palace) can come after the departure from Tatooine.

It might screw with the pacing, but I think it’s worth an attempt to see how it works. If new footage can be shot and lines can be recorded that don’t sound like bad impressionists, anyway.

Meh. I’m not liking that departure. It’s not necessary to begin with and just adds unnecessary shots to the sequence that takes away the focus on our heroes. To me that will be as unnecessary as Vader’s shuttle landing on his Super Star Destroyer in the Special Edition of Empire. I do not care why Fett is at Jabba’s Palace. He is a bounty hunter and such creatures get paid by gangsters as a regular gig, so I never questioned why Fett was there.

Logically, Fett is not going to try and ‘kidnap’ Luke for Vader in front of Jabba’s entire entourage AFTER Jabba declares he is to be executed for killing his pet rancor and orders him off the plank. It’s ridiculous. He would end up being chased by the entirety of Jabba’s forces for defying the execution order. Fett’s own dislike for Jedi is enough to propel him into trying to take Skywalker out when Luke defies the executioner and clears the skiff of Jabba’s henchmen. The only thing I am interested in changing is how Fett is blown off the skiff and how he is dragged into the Sarlaac. I think Luke should do it with his saber. Han accidentally hitting it with the skiff axe and activating it was never funny. Luke taking Fett out himself would serve to show how powerful he has become. Han should be focused on rescuing Lando - he already has a laugh when shooting the tendril.

I’m not interested in a side-plot of Fett trying to capture Luke for Vader.

I find your lack of faith…disturbing
