I think the official explanation is that there are multiple designs on the hard drive. Which would explain why we see the wrong one in Rogue One, but certainly wouldn’t explain why the Rebels are looking at the wrong one while planning their attack. That just doesn’t make sense. This was one of the best fixes in the original ANHR, I don’t know why it should be reverted back.

It’s true. All of it.

Neither Rogue One or A New Hope mentioned anything about multiple designs being on the hard drive.

They also don’t mention how the designs they have are very obviously incorrect.

I feel like the ANH:R graphics were too pretty and clashed with the used universe aesthetic of the film. I wouldn’t mind graphics that are a bit more low-fi but still fixed the dish placement. It would be a shame to break continuity with Rogue One but the blue TIES and red bacta in ESB:R already kind of do.

Okay, so TIEs and Bacta tanks come in different colors. No big deal.

Obviously after the Death Star was destroyed, the empire decided to make their TIEs more intimidating, so they made them all blue. The Bacta tanks took all the red.

I asked a friend of mine if the dish being in the center really mattered, and he said no, because it’s a very minor goof.

Thanks, we’ve all been on the edge of our seats waiting for your friend’s opinion on this matter.

Such a relief. And now I can finally die.

Yeah, I’d vote to just make them match TFA, personally. Especially if the Death Star schematics are getting rolled back to match RO.

Yeah, I’d vote against it.
Why change anything better back to something worse, just because in a new movie something looks just as bad as it was 40 years ago.

Maybe the TIE fighters could change to white, since they are white in TFA, and add a seat behind Vader and the other TIE pilots, so it matches TFA.

Well, that’s a silly comparison, since those are clearly completely different models of TIE fighters in TFA, whereas it’s the same Falcon.

I think some of the ANH:R graphics updates were a little excessive in the first place. They were made to make the film mesh more to the level of tech we see in the prequels, which aren’t part of Revisited anymore anyway. The new graphics and displays in ESB:R are a lot more subtle, and imo are better for it.

EDIT: as the Millennium Falcon is supposed to be an old hunk of junk, wouldn’t it make sense that the targeting displays are primitive looking?

As for the Death Star plans, why not have it start with the centered dish, then cycle through a few designs when R2 is plugged in, ending on the correct one.

Later, during the briefing, use the correct design but keep the slightly more primitive “look” of the graphics.

I agree with all of this, especially the idea of “cycling” through the plans when Artoo gets plugged in and then using a revised, no-center-dish version at the actual briefing.

I do too, that is a great fix! Makes great sense! Almost like the first image is like the first draft or a logo/symbol for the Death Star Plans.

Quick, tell Adywan!

A good compromise.

It would be amusing if the final version of the plans was small enough to be broadcast through the shield gate in RO, but the designers just had to include all 17 revisions.

Well, that makes no sense.
Surely a facility like this is able to send very large data packeges with one short burst.
In which case, it is either the data goes through or doesn’t. Does not matter how small it is.
If the shield is up that blocks the carrier wave, it doesn’t, no matter how small the data package is.
On a personal note, it is a broadcast, so every single ship recieves the data, which means there is no need for the rebels to run with that thingy in their hand. 😉
But that Vader scene at the end makes that kind of who cares. Let’s just pretend it wasn’t a broadcast, and was aimed at only one ship. Somehow. For some illogical reason.

I don’t think that the original movies should be updated and changed every time to accomodate a new movie. The new movie shall be fixed IMO.
