It is very late. This is what I saw today.
Angel Face - Robert Mitchum, Jean Simmons film noir. Otto Preminger directs. 3.5/5
Stagecoach - The film that made John Wayne a star and the western genre more than schlock. 4/5
Blow-Up - Vanessa Redgrave, David Hemmings. Photographs. 4/5
Camelot - Ran out of Gene Kelly musicals, this one with Vanessa Redgrave and David Hemmings (again) wasn’t so bad. Music wasn’t good (besides the catchy theme they kept repeating over and over again to the point you’re sick of hearing it), no dancing, but nice visuals, themes, and plot. 3/5

Beauty And The Beast (2017)

Didn’t understand the reason for the remake. It was the same movie, but for every good thing they added, they added a dozen terrible ones.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (2016)

Got about an hour into this before we (all adults) literally wandered off.

There really should be a separate thread for this, but what would anyone recommend for someone watched these film’s

  • Carnival of Souls (1962)
  • Straight Jacket (1964)
  • Spider Baby (1967)

I haven’t seen Spider Baby, so I can’t help you there.

You really should. It’s great.

Favorite part was in the basement when she says “Uncle Ned!” and you then see three of the relatives.

Dunkirk (2017)

I was unfortunately late to the theater and missed a few minutes, but this was quite an experience. It’s easily my favorite Nolan film I’ve seen, but I have yet to actually watch any of Nolan’s other films aside from the ones at least tangentially related to Batman.

Accidental Courtesy. A political documentary about an African-American blues musician that set out to befriend those who hated him most. Very well shot and directed. It touches on all kinds of topics; from the history of Rock and Country, to Confederate statues, to the Baltimore protests. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and it’s on Netflix.

Starship Troopers (1997)

Great satire, good action. Nothing like the book but it’s alright in its own right.

Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012)

Pretty sure the announcement of this film took most by surprise. Heinlein’s original novel introduced to the world the concept of power armor, which had an immense impact on Japanese pop culture. So it shouldn’t have been much of a surprise that Japan’s resident expert mech/exosuit designer would want to take a crack at the franchise that started it all. Hence Shinji Aramaki’s take on the franchise which saw the re-introduction of power armour to the ST universe.

This film drops the satire for a more straight forward action story. And boy does it deliver on the action.

Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars (2017)

Shinji Aramaki finally delivers the definitive Marauder power armor experience straight out of the original novel. Lots of fantastic use of the suit mixed with a very nice script from the franchise’s original screenwriter Ed Neumeier.

The Hallow (2015)

Had never heard of this film before today. Just happened to stumble upon it and I’m glad I did. This was director Corin Hardy’s debut and what a debut it is. The film is a surprisingly well done exploration of real Irish folklore in a modern context. Everything from the script, the performances, the cinematography and effects are executed with perfection. It’s a real shame this was never released theatrically stateside, I think it would have done very well. If you’re looking for a new horror/monster film to check out, I highly recommend it!

I think you oversold this a bit. It was decent but it just didn’t land with me in this way. And it was so damn dark, there were several times I couldn’t tell what was going on.

6.5/10. Loses half a point due to a combination of inflated expectations and the fact that they kept calling their baby “Finnball.”

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010) - I use this movie as a sort of cathartic escape from my lonliness.

Naqoyqatsi (2002) - The weakest of Reggio’s Qatsi trilogy. There’s some really great visual stuff, but also lots of lazily used, over-filtered stock footage.  However, there is also another A+ score, good job Phillip Glass.

LOGAN LUCKY (2017)

I was in it just to see a redneck Daniel Craig and ended up getting that and a great heist movie!

I’m going to see Terminator 2 in 3D tomorrow night. I would prefer no 3D but don’t have a choice. Still excited though, one of my favorites!

Aliens (1986)

It sure is a shame James Cameron disappeared from the face of the Earth back in the 90s, he was a pretty decent filmmaker.

Death Note (2017) - 7/10

Honestly, I enjoyed the hell out of this. Some great visuals, cast is pretty good, especially Dafoe as Ryuk. Never read the manga or watched the anime so I can’t compare them, but I can say that this adaptation/reimagining is a lot of fun.

Death Note - 1/5
Willem Dafoe is good, but is a second-rate Green Goblin (he didn’t seem as invested as he could have been). Everything else is incoherent. I haven’t even seen the anime or anything, but I don’t care to. I didn’t even want to watch this.
