This may be a stupid question, and I’m asking in this thread instead of the empire thread because I didn’t want to rain on its (well deserved) parade. I don’t know much about vfx work, but I’ve always wondered if you kept the project files and separate layers unrendered for a project, if, say, a few years down the line they finally release a better transfer of the films if you could just replace the base file in your editor and have the changes applied to the new transfer without having to do much besides tweak if there’s cropping differences? Sorry if it’s a dumb question but I’ve always wondered that.

If your work was at the appropriate resolution of the new material, it would certainly be usable. But it would not be as simple as updating the source of the main film in your project. As you say, there are cropping differences. So anything that’s overlain will need to be scrutinized closely and adjusted. But you would also need to adjust the color timing, contrast, and potentially grain of all the elements so that they match. That’s still all a lot better than starting from scratch, but you need the right elements to begin with.

Hi all.
Can anyone help me determine which is the ‘official’ version of SW EPIV Revisited.

On the spleen (which is mine), there are several versions, and the one that ‘seems’ right to me is named “Star Wars - A New Hope Revisited - NTSC DVD9.iso” and is 8362196992 bytes, sha256 of 8f9f8b8b751913437e3057effeb95de9d342d4ee72acebaf7983c5770c653316.

Whereas, I also found something on a mega great site, that was named “STAR_WARS_REVISITED_NTSC_DVD_9.ISO” and is 8163004416 bytes (after extraction), sha256 of 45a685dd397e9405129075a664133cdfc6dd0d268b63643108fcf6a8ed90fdb2.

There’s also some other versions on spleen. PAL 6.55GB (don’t think I want), “Purist” 4.04GB (don’t think I want), other single layer DVD versions…

Any insight would be appreciated.
If the info is already available, sorry but I did not want to go through all 411 pages of this thread. Actually I’d imagine this isn’t even the correct thread…

My thoughts on the ANH:R planet that the Death Star is orbiting. I’ve talked about this point in several other places so I apologize in advanced if this has been said before.

The way I see it, the color of the planet planet that the Death Star is orbitng can still be Scarif. Since the Death Star fired it’s primary weapon onto the planet’s surface, I’d argue that the resulting blast changed the look of the planet.

“Remember that lush blue and green tropical planet from Rogue One? This is what it looks like now after the Death Star used it’s lowest setting on it.”
