Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD * — Page 69

Here’s some new info on Luke. Admittedly it’s too early to judge as other factors can be introduced to explain why Luke decided to journey to Ahch-To but him abandoning his friends because he was sad leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. The man I admired so much in my mid - late teens wouldn’t do that. Whoever this person is, he’ll have to work very hard to win my affection back because like with Theon Greyjoy I can’t love a coward.

I think Johnson is well aware of this and judging by one of the EW articles I belive he’ll come up with a satisfying explanation for it.

“The very first step in the writing of this was figuring out why he’s on that island,” Johnson says. “We know that he is not a coward. He’s not just hiding because he’s scared. But we also know that he must know his friends are in danger. He must know the galaxy needs him. And he’s sitting on this island in the middle of nowhere. There had to be an answer. It had to be something where Luke Skywalker believes he’s doing the right thing – and the process of figuring out what that is and unpacking it is the journey for Rey.”

I can literally feel the doubt and anxiety leave my body…Thank you. I imagine this is where the “age old mysteries of The Force” part comes into play.

It’s amusing to think that JJ (perhaps inadvertently) forced them to go in a creative direction by pushing Luke out of TFA.

JJ: 'Let’s make Luke the mystery box at the end of the film, so he doesn’t suck the attention away from our new characters.'
Rian: ‘Hmm, we need to figure out what awesome secrets this island must hold to draw Luke away from his friends.’

JJ: 'Let’s film on an island with some old stone buildings, that will be cool.'
Rian: ‘Hmm, we need to create some interesting alien caretakers for these buildings, since there’s no way they would have survived this long left to the elements.’

Man, I really want to read these articles–but I made it through the first page of this EW story and thought to myself, “too many spoilers!”

I will likely cave at some point but man. When did marketing and spoilering become so hand-in-hand? Is this across all movies now? Am I just overthinking it because of Star Wars? Why am I asking you all of these questions?

A Porg in the Millennium Falcon? Chewie might take one with him as a pet. I bet he names him Han.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Those red guards look awesome! Actually, everything looks awesome, but especially those!

This damn thing better not poop or fart in the movie, or I’m walking. If they’re going to add a nauseatingly cute critter to the cast, this must be a really dark film and need to lighten the mood. Disney is probably going to make a billion on merchandising this thing alone. George is probably wishing he’d thought of this.

Also, Luke has definitely eaten a porg, unless he went vegetarian/vegan or is a Level 12 Force® User™ and doesn’t need food. They might not show that on screen, but if they get too cute in the movie, I’ll just think of Luke eating one.

I would think there’s other sources of food around. Probably lots of fish in the ocean, (what else would the porgs eat?) and a Jedi ought to have an easy time catching enough to eat. The porgs might even catch fish for Luke with a little guidance.

Porgs look kinda fatty. I bet they would taste great smoked.

Can you imagine the outcry if they showed a Porg getting eaten by our heroes? You can kill billions on screen in a Star Wars movie, but you can’t eat cute fuzzy creatures.

Not exactly any solid info on “DJ” but apparently he’s important to Finn and Rose’s mission on Canto Bight and he’s going to be a bit of a loose cannon.
