I loved the ‘subtitle commentary’ on Star Wars which showed what changes had been made. Fingers crossed this feature will be carried over.
Just keep in mind that some ESB:R shots have SO MANY elements altered, the various individual changes are likely to be more comprehensively covered by adywan’s/doubleofive’s eventual ‘shot comparisons’ guide. Their ‘A NEW HOPE REVISITED VISUAL COMPARISON’ shot guide is extensive, and this one is bound to be equally epic!
I just had a funny thought. Ady could complete the Wampa into a full body costume and go up in the snowy forest somewhere and use the Wampa as the abominable snowman and start a whole new set of conspiracy theories, this time with clear footage. Or he could make a viral video of the wampa scaring hikers and tourists. It would be great if this could be done in an ice cave. Just make sure nobody is armed with weapons.

Honestly I haven’t been excited for this edit for about 5 years or so. (And that is not at all a knock to it or how long it’s taken, just that I kinda decided the original was good enough and checked out, more to save myself the suspense than anything. Once again, it was not anything bad about adywan, the wait, or the work that made me stop being excited just myself.) But now that the release is getting closer I have to admit I am getting pretty excited for it again.
I have to admit that the wampa looks too good to be used for just the cave scenes.
Monstrous Ewok Chieftains, fully grown to resemble a Grizzly in Ewok garb, with a slightly flattened face. Teeth bared in a perpetual snarl, voice a lions roar, slightly alternating in pitch. For every cheesy Ewok attack shot, film an extra shot of a Chief roaring out the order.
Though I guess that’s less repurposing and going to require additional costumes.

Reverting to the 1980 theatrical cut of “Empire” where we never really see what the Wampa looks like.

The plan is to still only get glimpses of the Wampa, they would just all be the same puppet. If it doesn’t work, Adywan just uses his skills to make the shot that doesn’t work look more like his puppet.

Watching ESB again last night, I had the thought that perhaps the second Wampa was supposed to be a female, and that the male which attacked Luke was elsewhere in that scene. I wonder if that was supposed to be the implication all along, since they had filmed several Wampas attacking Echo base.

I run with that theory myself, but I have doubts it was the filmmakers’ original intent.

Nah it’s not that. There’re interviews out there where they discuss that they filmed the Wampa originally on location, but that the original model got damaged in transit back before they did pickups back in the UK, so they had to rebuild it. It’s intended to be the same Wampa.
Ady’s problem is that if he were to try to imitate the Wampa it’d still be inconsistent with either of the existing ones, so he’s replacing both with one consistent model.
