Life (2017)

Sci-Fi Horror about a group of 6 crew members on a space station, examining rock samples from Mars, in search of life. The movie is not deliberately scary like most horror movies, with jump scares. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the Alien franchise. It’s a great movie, and I recommend it to anyone who likes Horror movies.

I will put this one on my list as I do like Ryan Reynolds and sci-fi horror.

The Godfather (1972):

That aside, I got this as part of The Coppola Restoration box set. I believe I’ve found my favourite movie ever.

Godfather Part II is even better.

Earl: I loved the beat down Sonny gave his no good brother in-law.
Godfather Part 2 is great, especially Robert Deniro’s role as young Vito Corleone.
Godfather Part 3 is another great movie. It may not be as good as the first 2 movies, but deserves to be watched.

Ryan Reynolds is funny and sarcastic, like in most of his movies.

Logan

So good. There was action and violence, but it was the first X-Men movie to not be about the set pieces, it was about life and struggle and love and redemption.

Arrival - ?/10

I gotta watch this one again. I liked it quite a bit and I’d like to analyse this movie again before giving it a score. What I can say however is the overall message the film makes about the futility of life resonates with me and I agree with what Louise ended up doing.

She still starts a family knowing she loses both her husband and child. The only good thing to come of this is that she can cherish every moment she has with these people but to her that’s enough.

My response is basically this.

What you described is not futility, at least in my view.

FROM MY POINT OF VIEW, THE JEDI ARE EVIL!

Did you happen to watch Goodfellas on AMC? They love airing the same movies over and over again…

Saw Taxi Driver for the first time and it was a great movie, but I was told I was gonna hate it due to my disliking of Drive with Ryan Gosling.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989)

Moderately funny, but it was better when I was a kid.

That said, I can appreciate Joan Severance’s assets much more fully now.

The Great Gatsby (2013) – ★★1/2

The first third of the film was pretty bad. Once the story got started, there was no sense of pacing and everything was moving too fast. It was poorly edited, and I couldn’t tell what was going on for some of it. Once it got past that first phase, the pacing started to exist, and it progressed fine.

Performances were good. I really was able to care about Nick and Gatsby because Maguire and DiCaprio did well with the roles. Though I think the entire film could’ve built interest better and I didn’t like the visual style very much, but I had to be generous with a half star above average because the actors delivered the interesting character aspects so well, especially in the final act.

I also feel that it was a good call to write the film with a narration by Nick so that the books words good be properly interjected.

It wasn’t “great,” but it had some good stuff. I didn’t find the source material terribly entertaining, so I was surprised that the actors in the film were able to gather my interest more, even when their dialogue was word for word from the novel.

DAVE CHAPPELLE (Netflix original) (2017)
This two part live stand-up special is possibly Chappelle’s best. The first show is traditional stand-up routine full of laughs. The second is smaller and more relaxed and casual. Both have many great bits. If you’re even a slight fan, check it out.

Life (2017)

One of the better movies I’ve seen in a while. Harkens back to the days of Alien and mashes it up beautifully with Gravity.

I thought it looked pretty dumb from the trailers, but it seems that people like it so I may have to check it out at some point.
