Something else than sitting around in Ewok village, twiddling her thumbs? Yes, please.

Like destroying the shield generator? Oh wait, that is what she is doing already…

When I said “something else” I was referring to her romance subplot.

She definitely plays a role in terms of the plot both in that and in the rescue of Han but she doesn’t have much internal stuff going on and that’s the main problem with her in ROTJ. Nor does Han for that matter.

There was an exchange between them in the sandstorm scene that was cut?

That sounds interesting. I’m curious what their conversation was.

Not sure if the exchange was actually shot, as Lando is busy helping Chewie limp into the Falcon in the footage that’s been seen on the Blu Ray set.

very interesting! this is why i like this site, i keep learning new tidbits about star wars.

In ROTJ, Leia is captured by the ewoks while wearing her assault garb.

When Han and Luke arrive to be eaten, she is wearing a medieval gown.

Did the Ewoks happen to have one that fit her? Do you think she had just accepted that this was her life now? Her lover and that other guy she kissed are still in the woods being chased by the Empire on their way to destroy a planet killing weapon and she has gone through a wardrobe change. Do you think she intended to take a native lover and live as one of them until Han/Luke showed up?

I think the Ewoks ate whoever the previous owner of that dress was.

She was obviously wearing it underneath her combat uniform in case the need arose for a formal dinner. Since she was able to predict so precisely the type of dinner she was to attend, this is yet another piece of evidence in favor of her relation to a Force-sensitive bloodline. I think she knew the Ewoks were potential allies as much as Luke did. And hanging out with them until Han and Luke found her was a safer option than wandering around in a forest full of Biker scouts.

The dress material isn’t different from what the Ewoks use for hoods.

So they probably made it for her. The sleeves might be undergarments from her commando outfit though.

That just made me realize. Han chides Finn for not understanding how the Force works, when in reality, how many harebrained schemes do we see in the OT that seem to rely on sheer luck, i.e. using the Force?

Yet more vindication that Finn is the best character in TFA, in addition to being my personal favorite.

Normally I’d chime in here, cynically opining that they just did it to sell more action figures. But they didn’t even make one with that outfit. At least not in the vintage collection.

It would be interesting to learn why Kenner didn’t make a Ewok Village Leia, not mention the slave outfit.

I can definitely see him becoming my favorite after he receives further development and goes through his character arc. For some strange reason I think he’s going to die before he reaches the emotional maturity I know he’s capable of.

While trying to get to sleep in the living room one night, the red light in our tortoise house came on as it does periodically, and I got to thinking about the red of lightsabers. It seems to me that apart from being culturally associated with evil, a red light in the dark allows one to see without requiring one’s eyes to adjust to the light. This would be a noticeable advantage to a Sith Lord who operates primarily in the shadows. A bright blue blade on the other hand is a blinding light in the darkness. It would please me greatly if the reason for the red lightsaber really came down to such a practical consideration.

I know that a lot of fans who talk about the prequels as though they’re the worst films ever tend to watch them from time to time. I actually don’t think the prequels are among the worst films ever, but I don’t enjoy them at all and I plan on never watching them ever again. If any of you are here, what exactly is the appeal of revisiting and somewhat frequently rewatching films that you can’t stand?

I used to watch them as a family event. Started when I was young and stupid and liked them. Gradually, I changed the marathoning. Reverted to release order. Then introduced despecialized. Then, this year, I couldn’t finish Clones. Got bored to death. Didn’t watch Sith. Guess it just took me awhile to ween off what I felt was some kind of obligation.

I don’t mind them.

I simply won’t ever watch the official blu rays of the prequels I own. They’re simply there so I can feel fine watching fanedited versions. But even then, I usually just stick to the OT.

From an academic point of view, if making movies or telling stories is your ambition in life, there is value in studying movies that are “bad”. If you understand how and why they went wrong, you can avoid the mistakes and bad choices that were made by the filmmakers.

I’ve read that Manos: The Hands Of Fate is being used in college filmmaking courses as a textbook example of how not to make a movie. 😉

I haven’t watched the prequels in over a decade. Never bothered with fan edits either. Well, I did watch the auralnauts version of the prequels on YouTube a few months ago which was pretty hilarious. But that’s been my only exposure to the actual films (excepting a few random YouTube clips here and there) since the ROTS DVD came out and I watched it a couple of times.

I’ve been tempted recently by the thought of actually watching all 8 Star Wars movies in chronological order when the Rogue One blue ray comes out, but then I just can’t bring myself to re-live such powerful frustration and disappointment.

I never really thought of Lando as much of a traitor. The Empire showed up and demanded that he turn over a criminal that he apparently hadn’t interacted with, and didn’t even like, in years. For all we know Darth Vader would’ve killed everyone in Cloud City if he didn’t comply. Then, once he realized what was happening (remember, he didn’t know that they were giving Han to a bounty hunter), he intervened and tried to save him and helped the others escape.

^Yep. I always say this when the “traitor” thing is brought up (see my previous post on this page).
Lando is a hero who did the right thing and it didn’t cost even one life. And even if Han had died, it was to save an entire city and all of his friends. Worth it.
Also, take note that Chewie, Leia & Luke all trust Lando completely after they find out he isn’t a bad guy and just saved all of their asses. He then goes off to save Han, the only person left in peril. (Which was trouble Han made for himself without Lando’s involvement.)
