Well I only just watched the trilogy again in the Despecialized Editions and I have to say the fans who have poured their time into giving us a nice way to view the films have done such a great job and Harmy definitely keep up the good work and may the force be with you.

By the way Han shot first.

For those of us sorry sad sacks without BluRay burners, what resources do we have for obtaining nice copies on printable media? I’d love help if anyone has an extra disc!

Thanks, Todd

In my opinion the best way is by streaming the mkv-files from a PC to your PS3. Universal Media Server software is needed on the PC. Once you have it all set up, playing movies is easier than inserting a disc in your blu-ray player. Don’t even need to get off the couch!
And subtitles work great too.

Someone mentioned how obvious they felt the rotoscoping in Star Wars Despecialized 2.5 is, that the opening crawl wobbles and then speeds up weirdly at the end, and wishes the picture quality was more consistent.

The gate weave of the crawl is supposed to be there, though I agree the acceleration feels artificial (as far as I can tell, SSE suggests it should be a more gradual acceleration).

It’s the GOUT crawl, so it should be equivalent to the GOUT at least.

I’m more familiar with the Despec and SSE than I am with the GOUT, so I can’t comment on how the GOUT does it.

Really? I have a Sony BluRay, can I do that there?

Even if Disney and Lucasfilm finally start official restorations of the unaltered OT, one incentive I have to keep the Despecialized Editions is the big number of audio options.

Well, someone once said Editroid is not incorrect that someone mentioned it.

Yeah but what’s the point in bringing up the fact that someone else said it?

I just wanted to be honest in saying they weren’t my own words.

Just watched the despecialised Ep4 and parts of 5 the last couple of days, and its so refreshing to see all that dated CGI stripped away and also all the original work back into place, like models, mattes, actors, sound effects and special effects. Its almost hilarous how all the physical things like masks, models and such, look so much better in their original form, than the CGI they replaced it with. And how much stuff they additionally botched, good grief. And don’t get me started about the murder on Greedo, uh “self defense” of Han Solo or Anakin Skywalker who is suddenly younger than his son in Jedi. A big thank you to Harmy and his supporters and contributors of materials, who made this happen. 😄

They should go back and remove Hayden’s eyebrows in Jedi, just for the heck of it.

Hello there!

I am so happy for this SW release! Being completely blind, it really Means alot to me that the author of this release did actually take the time to include the original WGBH descriptive audio for blind people!!
I was on this forum a long time ago originally whare I was looking for described versions of all 3 films, and over the years, I managed to find them and also did update a thred about it regularly. Unfortunatlly only the original EP 4 has description, and I believe some members onhere also did wanted to have a listen to it at that time, so, I am very delighted to see the description actually appearing in a release!
One big question though, can anyone tell me why the reading of all of the end-credits are missing? Given that the release otherwise is so perfect in any way (also with the many audio tracks to choose from , I love it and wish there were more), I am a bit pusseld as to why this last bit of the description track has not been included?

All the best from Allan

Not quite sure, but there are some problems with the descriptive audio tracks as we have them, and it’s quite possible the credits were missing and then tacked on from an alternate source. Empire and Jedi are much worse off because the only descriptive tracks we have are Special Edition tracks, and also the quality isn’t so great.

If you’re interested, I’m actually trying to completely remake the descriptive audio tracks, by finding someone to read the voiceover. Then I’ll mix the voiceover with one of our much-better quality audio tracks so you can get the full Star Wars audio experience. I have scripts, I just need the voice talent.

So not necessarily you, but if you know anyone who’d be interested in helping out here, I’m willing to do all the editing, I just need the raw voice recordings. PM me if you’re interested.

EDIT: Oh, and ironically, I don’t actually have scripts for the complete credits, just the major initial parts. We can address that when it comes to that point.

Hello Again

Thanks for your quick reply.

Well, as for Episode 4, I can tell you that the version I have is indeed complete including the end credits! Quality-wise, the recording could indeed be better, but still, it is better to include what is availible for now rather than ditching it!
Actually, the descriptive tracks which are availible on the 2011 BD release of ESB and ROTJ really are well done. They are in 5.1 and are a plesure listening to sound-quality wise! I Wonder if they could be recut to comply with the despecialized editions?
Concerning the versions you have for the SE versions, I wish someone would include them on some SE-releases as well at some point.

Please do let me know what you have descriptive wise. Perhaps you have the same as I do myself, if not, I’ll only be to happy to comply a complete version of EP 4 with end-credits.

Your project concerning creating 3 intirely new DVS tracks for the original trilogy do sound intresting! Please do let me know if anyone volenteres to do the reading. I’d be happy to be a test listener if you should need one.

All the best from Allan

What an incredible group of people you guys are… my compliments. It restores my faith in humanity. Kudos.

The descriptive audio tracks I had, I just transcribed the description (with edits for despecialization, inaccuracies, etc) and the tracks are long gone. If I recall correctly, cutting them to match the GOUT (the frame reference for the Despecialized Editions) might be doable, but not without even more compromises than we already make for despecialized dubs. For example, in a dub, we replace entire sections of the audio in Jedi (musical number, celebration). Easy enough when there’s no dialogue, but the voiceover would be lost. Same for the credits, none of the scores for the SE credits match the originals.

For better or worse, I’m pretty married to the “make our own” idea. I’m willing to wait a long time for a volunteer, but feel free to ask around on my behalf.
