Regarding Ewoks in ROTJ, I remember seeing something years ago, that Lucas originally wanted to make a planet of Wookies.
It could’ve been on a Discovery Channel program. However, since the Chewbacca costume was made of horse hair, and was extremely expensive, they had to change it completely. Make a planet of small creatures, using less expensive material. The name Ewok came from Economical Wookie = EWOK.

I really don’t like the title. We already had a title that ended in Jedi!

Not enough people read the EU.

I don’t know if he ever actually considered it during the making of ROTJ, although that was my impression as well. He did however have Wookiees help destroy the DS in the first draft of ANH. So he might have planned to recycle this idea, only to change them to Ewoks for practical reasons like you mentioned. So Lucas did since the very beginning toy with the idea of a primitive culture helping the rebels take down the technologically superior Empire. So regardless of what one might think of the Ewoks as they turned out, the core idea has a very appropriate symbolism to it.

Cool, I had no idea Wookies had a big part in the first draft of ANH. You learn something new everyday.

Having Wookies would have made the Battle of Endor more enjoyable to watch and more believable but I still feel as though the time that was spent on the Ewoks should have been allocated to the trio.

Dark Horse Comics turned the first draft into a comic series in 2013; The Star Wars. It’s pretty good, and a lot more fun to read than just the screenplay.

Maybe the Ep. IX logo will be blue, and the ST will be the Primary Colors Trilogy.

Yak hair actually. And what the heck is a Wookie? 😉

How can I refer to ROTJ as simply Jedi in passing conversation now?

It’s still Jedi. This one will be Jedi 2: Electric Boogaloo.

More importantly, how is Frink going to change the title for his edit? Coming sometime in 2030. 😉

Well, that sounds even more expensive than Horse hair. Oops, Wookiee.

Either way, I’m sure the animal in question was just ecstatic seeing its hair in a well-received movie series.

I concur. Maybe those animals were lucky enough to even see a few minutes of the movie, that their “donated” hair was used for.

Are all of the “stand-alone films” going to be prequels that directly lead in to the OT and require a thorough understanding of the original films in order to understand them? I guess technically the “Star Wars Stories” don’t necessarily have to be standalone. I’m not sure how I feel because if we have to get a backstory to every OT thing every other year, I’ll just be completely burnt out on everything Star Wars related, but I couldn’t possibly care less about some random Star Wars stuff that has nothing to do with the OT (which basically means it has nothing to do with Star Wars as far as I’m concerned).

Rogue One didn’t require a thorough understanding of the OT in order to enjoy it. There have been multiple reports of it being people’s first experience with the franchise and subsequently being enthusiastic about continuing into its “sequel.”

As for when the other standalones might be set. It just happens to be that pre-SW is a very handy period of time to set stories, especially about pre-existing characters.

Well earlier today I saw someone say Rogue One was a rehash of STAR WARS…I done heard it all now.

WHAT?! Really? Some people are quite clueless. It was probably one of the people who was playing with their phone while at the movie theater.

I guess not, but if I wasn’t already a Star Wars fan, I’d have no interest in this movie and probably wouldn’t have cared much about it if I did see it.
I have no problem saying that R1 is a movie made for Star Wars fans. If someone starts here and wants to watch the rest afterward, that’s cool, but I feel it was made for people who already dig Star Wars. And that’s fine.

Regardless of who Rogue One was supposed to be catered for, it’s definitely a good movie to start off with, if the person knows absolutely nothing about Star Wars. Much better than starting off with the PT, yes, that’s not saying much!
Obviously, the correct answer, in introducing Star Wars to a newbie, is by showing them the OT.
