Thanks bud.
Now I have another complaint.
The amount of hoops you have to jump through to play a damn blu ray on Windows 8 is absurd. You’d think getting a blu ray drive would be enough but nope. Have to find a separate program. They disabled it in Windows media player and I can’t get vlc to work either. The only free program I could get to play it was neavo, but the sound wouldn’t work properly. I have the pc hooked to my receiver with hdmi. For some reason when i select hdmi for sound in this program it won’t play any sound. I have to hit analog… Which still sends the sound through the HDMI (wtf) but only in stereo. I don’t understand why it can’t just use direct sound or whatever to just use the default sound for my computer so I could have surround. It’s just a basic down mix too from what I can tell. If it would at least matrix it so I could use the pro logic II song on my receiver then I could live with that but I don’t think it does. My soundcard has an automatic matrix downmixer for 5.1 audio on the fly but I’m pretty sure this program is doing it’s regular down mix before it even gets to that so it didn’t helpo this instance.
So I guess I’m just going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade the powerdvd and hope it sends the audio in 5.1. But even if it doesn’t I should still be able to to use my sound cards down mixer and get a surround experience that’s at least close. (I can honestly barely tell the difference between dolby surround and discrete surround anyway other than the fact that dolby surround needs less bit rate to sound good…)
