At some point in the film the protagonists should stop to watch all the previous SW films in a marathon, and we should see it unfold in real time.

Yes! This way we can have the older characters say things like:

“Well, this isn’t how that went down…”
“Gungans aren’t even real!”
“That’s not what happened at all!”
“I guess they did all their research by talking to unemployed drunks who were children at the time.”

I like this.

According to Pablo Hidalgo, cutting on Rogue One isn’t locked yet and the 133 minute runtime is just a placeholder.

That’s what I thought. Any confirmation of the movie’s running time is meaningless when we’re still two months from the release date.

More Vader. Very disappointing.

So far it seems way less disappointing than TFA, in that respect and all other aspects.

Do you approve the decision to drop the crawl from Rogue One?

No.

My guess for a while now has been that the movie will have a cold open (maybe the flashback we see in the final trailer) ending with a cut to black with the title fading in, fading back out and then fading in to the first shot of the rest of the movie.

Though I do wonder if the Lucasfilm logo will appear with music, sound effects, both, or with no sound at all.

I was expecting a “The Clone Wars tvseries” musical approach, something like that. Well, I’m pretty sure LFL still can change their mind about it and make it a last minute change. They have probably asked Giacchino to record something that could be used for that purpose. It would be a weird move to have a traditional blockbuster opening and not a SW opening. It’s not a real SW film, but it’s a SW film nonetheless.

I don’t really care either way.

It’s a decent way to separate the main series from the Anthologies. I get that maybe it drops the “serial” feel, but the Anthologies aren’t part of the main serial.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

I’d be disappointed if they didn’t drop the crawl. This is less a Star Wars movie and more a movie set in the Star Wars universe. The crawl (and wipes) are part of the serial vibe that the saga films are going for. If the anthology pictures are supposed to go for different vibes, it makes little sense to include a crawl. How many war movies have crawls?

There probably is one or two in the entire history of film, but the precedent of no crawl in a SW spinoff has long been set by the Ewok films, and the TCW movie.

This would be more than enough.

At the end of the day it’s not worth fussing over too much on the spinoff movies.

Not having a crawl is something small that would differentiate it from the main saga. I hope Rogue One doesn’t have a crawl.

Agreed, but now I’m curious if we’ll still see the usual receding STAR WARS title afterwards (followed by the ROGUE ONE title)…or will we only see the ROGUE ONE title instead?..

I’ve always wondered who at LFL decided the ESB logo should read “Star The Empire Strikes Back Wars”.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

That’s not how you’re supposed to read it. 😉
