Where were you in '77?
Is it just me or does that second guy look exactly like Poe Dameron?
I’d go with the former
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.
I hope Mr. Sealey is successful in whatever he does but he should not be making big decisions of any kind. I’m pretty sure even most of the naysayers knew the films would bring in the dough; the real debate was if the new films would be any good.
I can understand there’s logic to questioning Disney’s megalithic Total Franchise approach to SW. Especially since franchisation often imposes requirements that are directly counterpoised to good storytelling in movies.
But citing Avatar as a reason to claim that SW is no longer relevant?? People didn’t go to that film for the story, they went to see if the 3D was any good. And then in six months’ time they had largely forgotten it. Hardly an example of a “cultural force”.
One more example of why franchises are so powerful in Hollywood now: executives don’t have any clue what new movies audiences might want to see or why. (Nor do they particularly need to care, given the profit margins involved in exporting mindless blockbusters to totalitarian China.)

after a few months people went back to talking about The Dark Knight. That’s how irrelevant that movie became.

Just for the 3D (which was awesome and the only good 3D I’ve seen with Gravity and The walk) ? Not because it was James Cameron ? Not because it was the man which previous movie was Titanic ? The movie had an impact, people still talk about it (geeks mostly hate it for reasons I don’t understand). The only issue is that it’s taking quite a long time to get to see the sequel(s). We’ll really know what the Avatar cultural impact is when the second one is released.

It’s boring nonsense.

It’s boring nonsense that ends with a guilt trip.

I haven’t seen Avatar and am proud of that accomplishment.

Is it still an accomplishment if it takes no effort?

Laziness itself can be a virtue in the wrong state of mind.
Although this isn’t anywhere near as absurd as some of the other early SW posters were, I still think this one of the weirdest ones I’ve seen.
Sure, it doesn’t have weird gorilla Chewie, or Conan-Luke, or any of the trippy weirdness of the Polish posters, nope, the guy who made this decided to use the picture of sad Luke.
I mean, even the weird posters tried to give it either that space-opera/space-epic feel or at least a weird space-fantasy vibe to it, but this one has a picture of a sad-looking Mark Hamill (and Leia in pink, which is also kind of amusing).

Interesting.

I LOVE THIS! Instantly one of my favorites.

Astonishing.
