Original Star Wars Script and Idea, ETC....
Time
The script your talking about was a bootleg and was a fan made script. It was put out even before lucas wrote the first draft, i believe it has luke becoming emperor and rechristening the death star the life star. The true first draft was called revenge of the jedi and it had two death stars, and the imperial home world was where the final lightsaber duel happened. It was over a lava pit, because of the emperors inner sanctum being so below the planets surface. The planet was called had abbadon not coruscant, and was stolen from asimovs trantor in the foundation books. The starkiller page at starwarz.com has i think a revised second draft. Lando dying was a myth, that came about because during story meetings kasden told lucas han should die. I don't know if this exists in any of his personal drafts for the script he turned in, but i know lucas told him " your a product of the 1980's you can't just go around killing people", humorously.

Lucas is way off....time will tell....
Time
as sad as it is, revenge of the sith is still the number 1 movie at the box office. And the good thing for lucas is people who are not star wars fans are going to see it and actually like it. It's on track to be the biggest money maker in movie history making a hundred and seventy million just in the u.s. in it's first week, beating out return of the king and the all time grosser titanic. but i think hollywood analysts are wrong i'm predicting it will only take the 3rd spot. It would almost have to make a billion dollars to trump titanic.

Anyone else want to see... an animated series set between ROTS and ANH?
Time
what i've always wanted to see is an anime rendition of the original trilogy like the mangas, but only better. Expanded universe stuff would be cool too. Maybe the new series lucas is planning is coming from his new animation studio he set up in singapore. The greatest animated star wars would be if you could get miyazaki to do it, or rintaro or the director of akira, leiji matsumoto from star blazers. The clone wars cartoons are fantastic, they achieved some things you could never do with live action. even though i don't like that dexter's lab guys style. They should try to push the envelope in animation the same way they are with the movies. Just imagine how great it would be if they brought back gary kurtz and lawrence kasden and the whole original crew, who's still alive anyway and make the sequels, or at least episode seven to give the fans what they want a reunion movie, or t.v. show /series showing what happened after return of the jedi. and forget the crew who worked on young indy. In a perfect world peter jackson could direct the new sequel films, and weta working with ilm could do the effects, steven spielberg and luc besson could also be considered.

What did you think the Clone Wars were gonna be?
Time
I thought also the mandalorian warriors and boba fett would play a bigger role. The clone wars are not actually seen on screen, only in cartoons, comics books and video games worst idea since making shadows of the empire with everything including a soundtrack and novelization for a non existent film. and no boba fett in episode III. I hate to say it but i actually like John L. Flynn's Fall of The Republic Fanfic script sold at comic conventions in 1983 better than lucas revenge of the sith, flynn based it on lucas discarded screenplay drafts for star wars and mainly the return of the jedi novelization. The prequels just destroy any continuity of the original films, and obliterate the eu. Lucas resently asented that he considers the sequel novels from zahn onward to be canon, because he refuses to waste the last years of his life on star wars. He wants to go back to his small film roots, to me that sounds retarded but he can do what he wan'ts being the most succesful man in hollywood history a billlionaire according to 60 minutes, and that's personal wealth not just his companies. so apparently he's the richest man in the u.s. behind bill gates, and george bush jr.

Should Lucas replace Guiness with an aged McGregor?
Time
the worse rumor i ever read was from an old cinescape magazine saying lucas should or would remake the original trilogy with ben affleck as han solo and matt damon as luke skywalker. But then again in the early 90's it was reported mark hamill was going to play annikin in the prequels, and do episode 7, and kenneth branagh was said to obi wan. The last argument i had with someone about the sequels was about mark hamills son nathan should play luke in the sequels because mark is too old, but i said no because despite the fact they look so much alike he has no acting credentials, or history. Replacing alec as old ben is the worst blasphemy i've ever heard suggested, except for casting pierce brosnan or ben affleck for indiana jones. How many people think every star wars movie since empire was stupid?, apparently there are enough fans who think kersh should've done episode VI and produced by kurtz.

Which of the 6 films is your favorite?
Time
my favorite movie when I was a kid was return of the jedi.

a few years ago, i probalbly would have said a new hope.

Now that i'm older, i'd have to say empire because of it's darkness and subtle nuances, and is more adult.

I know that everybody will probalbly think it's blasphemy, but now that i'm older and more jaded i like empire and revenge of the sith the best. kids will always love the adventure, and the positive values of the original films including episode 1. in fact among most children today phantom menace is their favorite film.

My nephew when i showed him the first five films, wanted to watch attack of the clones and the phantom menace over and over, the original films not so much.

if you look at both trilogies, without whining about how much the prequels suck, you can see the common threads between the films. Luke and Anakin are the same archtypal character they just chose different paths, but they have the same weaknesses common to all men the darkness within, and their yearning and spirit of adventure is the same. if you read the novelizations for all six films , cotinuity errors aside it makes more sense than the films, especially if your familiar with the radio dramas and have read the hero with a thousand faces by joseph campbell.

Ralph McQuarrie book?
Time
There was an artbox with an intro by kevin j. anderson from chronicle books.
the metal cards with pre-production art, do not know what company put them out.
His website sells an exclusive dvd, and has most of his stuff up.
Of course their are the three original art of star wars books,
plus the three sketchbooks, and the 3 portfolios put out by dell rey which are now collector's items.
There are also three slideshows of his preproduction artwork on the definitive edition laserdisc from 1993.
there is some material on the bonus disk from the new official dvd release, like the trailer for empire which uses only mcquarrie artwork with narration. Plus his art for the unreleased poster for the star wars, it is in a book i have called from star wars to indiana jones. His art for the 1976 pre release paperback for star wars, and for splinter of the mind's eye. and there also are illustrated editions of the novelizations of empire and jedi, with sketches and the empire strikes back notebook.
the art of star wars universe co-written by kevin j. anderson has some other stuff. one sketch is in star wars the magic of myth by mary henderson. their is also the new cinema of george lucas book, quite expensive, and the star wars chronicles also quite expensive. a wealth of materials exists in the lucasfilm archives, that has never been seen or released and probalbly never will. Just like we will never get to see the rough cut of a new hope, or read all the screenplays/ story treatments that are all locked away by lucas. this is including the so called non existing original cuts of the films, and the treatments for episodes 7-9 which has been verified to exist but he insists that they don't, oh yeah and those so called original treatments for episodes 1-3 which are buried because he never had them, yeah right.

who had the better actors/characters?
Time
do we even have to ask this question?

Harrison Ford is in the original Trilogy, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher Nuff said.

Luke was more indentifiable with, just like mark hamill instead of HaYDEN As Anakin.

Harrison Ford just exemplified coolness!

Carrie Fisher was hot, remember back then? ( although natalie portman is'nt bad either)

Their is a reason why the original versions of the original trilogy are called the immortal trilogy or the holy trilogy, and compared to mythology, epic fable, and folktale, and compared to tolkien's lord of the rings. Lucas has already admitted tolkien's influence on star wars and willow.

Who's read the novelization of ROTS?
Time
revenge of the sith novelization is better than the movie, except that it does not have the wookie scenes. Rotj novelization just like the first two was based on an earlier draft of the screenplay, so it does have deleted scenes intact, as well as one thing that was finally contradicted by lucas in attack of the clones. He decided that owen would be anakin's stepbrother and not obi-wan's brother. The book is really excellent as it goes into luke almostt turning into darth vader, his feelings and emotions and the redemption of his father from his point of view. On the whole, I think my favorite novelizations have to be return of the jedi and revenge of the sith.

somethin' cool in Phantom Menace
Time
there is a prequel novel to phantom menace which shows how he had chancellor valorum wrongfully accused, to get to become chancelor himself, also he uses padme in a way to get his position. just like he uses jar jar in attack of the clones, and anakin in revenge of the sith. He is a true satanic mastermind, a puppetmaster who uses others for his own evil schemes.

Things you DID NOT like about Episode III
Time
Too many plot wholes. in the original stoy material as evidenced by the john l. flynn fanfic fall of the republic, Obi wan was to retrieve anakin's lightsaber that he later gave to luke. Boba Fett was supposed to appear and was in earlier drafts see making of revenge of the sith book. Han Solo was also going to be in it and the birth of the rebel alliance. Who knows boba will probalbly appear in the 2006 t.v. show since lucas would consider him a supporting role, and not one of the original characters who play central roles in either trilogy. Lucas did'nt mention the mythic mandalorian material, and the correlians were the first to sign with the rebel alliance. Han Not being in it seems to make sense though, seeing that he did'nt meet chewie until he was in the imperial navy as a cadet out of the academy, and was drummed out of the service for befriending chewie. i thought the wookie planet originally would look like endor, since that is where the concept came from for rotj, and lucas changed the wookie army into ewoks.

Reasons why the O-OT is better than the SE
Time
I Grew up with the original cuts of the films, and the fact that he thinks they are no good is like a slap in the face to everybody old enough to have seen them in theaters or their original video releases. The fact is it is the original cuts that are on the afi list not the special editions, and the original cut of star wars made a domestic gross of over 400 million dollars in 1977 amercan dollar values. He claims that the original negatives no longer exist. Not only that, but it is a grave disrepect not to preserve the work of the original model builders, effects artists, etc.

Changes that you like (from the 1997 SE and the 2004 OT SE DVD release)
Time

The one change I actually liked is from the 2004 edition of a new hope, a much more faithful rendering of Jabba.

I hate the new sound mix, and the 1997 sound mix the best is from the pcm on the definitive collection
laserdiscs.

Plus the color correction in the 2004 edition is a little too bright and funky looking.

I like the original color scheme developed by cinematographer Gil Taylor which used prints from deluxe and technicolor.

I did not like the jedi rocks scene, used in replace of lapti nek, or the new ending for jedi without the yub yub ewoks tune.

I especially loath the changes to the end of jedi 2004 version with Haden, instead of sir sabatian shaw, and jar jar saying wesa free.

I don't like how lucas changed the storyline for the original trilogy, in empire by having it hinted that vader knew all along about luke
and was hiding him from the emperor, until he was a grown man. This obviously means vader went to get Luke from the lars, and
when he found out he had gone off with kenobi he had uncle owen and aunt beru fried by the stormtroopers.

I read the making of revenge of the sith and he even half jokingly, considered putting Padme in the ghost scene at the end of

return of the jedi.
