I think I only watch ANH:R sometimes because I already have it, since some of the changes sort of bother me (like making the Death Star explosion feel less epic than the Alderaan explosion.)
The Alderaan explosion always been more epic than the Death Stars, hasn't it? Is there a version of Star Wars where that isn't the case?
In '77, Alderaans huge fireball with chunks flying out dwarfed the Death Stars little 'Pop!' and glitter show. In all versions of the SE, the same ring has been added to both explosions, so Alderaan still has the better bang. I just watched both go boom in Revisited and I'd say the new Death Star explosion at least equals Alderaans.
I don't mean to go off topic, just found this interesting.
Adywan's Alderaan explosion is the explosion of the Asgard homeworld on Stargate SG-1. This explosion is MUCH more massive than that of either the classic or SE Alderaan explosions, and the sound effect is different and somehow smaller, such that his Alderaan explosion dramatically dwarfs his Death Star blowing up.
Sure, Alderaan is a planet and so should cause a bigger boom, but we're supposed to get this feeling of elation or exhileration from the Rebels blowing up the most powerful weapon in the universe at the last possible moment. Unfortunately, the feeling I get while watching Adywan's edit is "meh, the first explosion was better."
I completely agree with you, I'm just saying I get the "meh, first explosion was better.' feeling you mentioned no matter what version I'm watchin'.

If at all possible, with the release of the BD version, I want to release the full BD version and then for the people who already have the mkv, I will release a shell version, with all the files that will be added or changed on the BD, so that people can mux in the tracks they already have from the mkv and create an identical BD on their own from the mkv, so that way, if you have the mkv and you're saavy enough, you'll only have to DL like 26 GB, instead of 46.
That's great!
