Original cut showing in a theater in Wales(U.K.) tonight!
Time

The DeSpecializing term works, it lets you know the intent and potential drawbacks.  (look at all the things we still are finding changed in 97)  Not sure when in general conversation the term, DeSpecialized, got dropped and replaced with Harmy's preservation.  Maybe as he transitioned from Partially to what it is now, people realized the scope and dedication and moved the title from DeSpecialized to the man himself.

Sent an e-mail to the theater, see if anything returns.

is there any follow-up on this?

The original version of Star Wars projected in 35mm TWICE in the last two years.  I think George Lucas is losing this battle to suppress these from being shown!

Hell yes!

They are a small drop in the bucket though.

Honestly, these are the only ones you've heard

about. Don't forget their was a screening earlier

this year in wales (although no further info on it).

I'm sure that there are collectors that have private

screenings too, but we don't hear about it.

I'm trying to have another one of course.

And we would encourage people to have major

watch parties once we release our preservation,

or using Harmy's, etc.....

We thank everyone for their current support.

And we know that going forward, the movie

will always live on, because of people like you

that cared to remember it, despite the attempts

to make it vanish from peoples memory, and

the physical versions too.

still, the v1 should be put up once we answer a few

more questions..

thanks for hanging in there.

What is your home theater setup for watching Star Wars movies? (or what equipment would like to get if you could afford it/or dream setup?)
Time

My dream setup would be a homemade built IMAX theater room to watch them in. But that probably won't happen until well after the sun hits supernova.

why imax? either the picture would be cropped or stretched

out, or it would be a tiny picture on a huge screen.

i've always thought IMAX films and theaters are overrated

gimmicky, and over priced ways of watching movies.

the IMAX specific movies, like nature stuff is ok i guess.

don't really care for anything 3d either.

and don't forget to have a huge house

or build an auditorium for it!

haha

Copy that. I'll put my DVD on standby and to find out how to extract audio tracks from DVDs meanwhile. :)

It looks very, very promising what you're doing. I'm really looking forward to this. The original Star Wars from 1977 in HD. What elso can you wish for (except of a similar treatment for ESB and RotJ one day)? :)

we were working on the empire strikes back 35mm before we started star wars,

but then we shifted priorities to star wars. someone else will continue the

work with empire strikes back 35mm. we have good leads on return of the

jedi on 35mm. so it's just a matter of time.

So was a "workprint" shown? That is, how close to the "final product" was the screening?

nope.

this was an actual screening of my spanish LPP 35mm print

in all its glory! synced to an english soundtrack.

well,

we couldn't really tell anybody about it in advance,

it was a surprise screening.

but a lot of people showed up. (i couldn't make

it as i was out of town)..

however, if you were one of the lucky few that

made it out to the screening somewhere along

the east coast USA... you might have been witness

to another historic event.. the first screening in the

USA since the senator one...(i think).. hosted by

none other than cinch himself!

there was preshow festivities and other activities

going on..

i told them to thank everyone, and also mentioned

that OT should be supported, and thanks to these

forums for the interest that made me get the prints

in the first place.. i never imagined they would be shown!

and yet here we are... with hopefully another screening

later this year, or next once i find the appropriate venue.

i can't give out too many more details, but we have

video and pictures of the events..

thanks again to everyone here, and involved

with supporting star wars!
