My friend is trying to convince me that Mara Jade is a big deal in the EU to everyone but me, possibly more than Thrawn. Am I crazy for Mara never standing out to me?
All I know her for is that she’s EU Luke’s wife, and nothing more (then again, I never followed legends that rigorously)

The rules really had not been set in stone yet. Keep in mind, most if not all of the Marvel adaptation was drawn with only a script, stills and some concept art to work with. The first issue hit the stands a month before the movie was even out.

It’s interesting that the US has such a devotion to them. I can’t think of anyone in Canada that really cared about college sports unless they either have a relative in that team, or maybe because they lived in a community with a relevant team.
Maybe it’s just my circle of friends. I know my local Pharmacy has a betting pool for Survivor of all things.
Attack of the Clones was on TV when I was 8. I don’t believe I started from the beginning, and I couldn’t sit through it. At that time I mostly liked Star Wars because everyone else liked it.
It was only a couple years ago when I had properly watched Star Wars through the DeSpecEd.
Is anyone else really happy that the color scheme of the Tantive scenes in Rogue One matches the original set, and nothing else? I’ve seen both official and unofficial bits of media mimic the dreadful blueish grey scheme from the Blu-ray to a teethe, so I was delighted to see Edwards didn’t pay attention to that at all.
In general it seems like they’re really paying closer attention to the theatrical colours in the post Disney purchases. (Not really a spoiler as it’s easily shown in the teasers, but Twin Suns from Rebels reminded me more of the Theatrical colours for Tatooine than the Blu-Ray’s colours).
Rogue One though really shows off the original colours the best though (though the footage of Red Leader seemed a bit desaturated)
Late 90’s models onwards had auto clock set. One channel in most cities, (usually a PBS station) had a subcarrier signal the VCR clock would use to set itself. You were still on your own setting it up to record something unattended.
The last regular VHS deck my parents used had this feature, but I could never get it to work according to the manual. But if you left it off, it would magically set itself. I never could catch it in the act either. Tempted to plug it in again one of these days and see if it will still set the clock. The cable system here still has a few analog channels, downconverted from digital of course.
Curiously, my DVD recorder has no such feature, but setting the clock is fairly simple compared to the arcane sequence of buttons our first family VCR in 1984 required. 😉
In our case it was more we never left it on when not in use, and when it’s off (assuming it was plugged in) it would instead display a

It’s hard to deny that Snoke looks a lot like an Angel, and that image is canon. I’m not sure if there’s any more evidence or the theory is just based solely on looks.

I can totally relate to your clinging to bitter emotions. It’s not an easy road, and sometimes doubt still likes to creep into the back of my head. However, if you can get access to someone you can talk to, I highly recommend it. Simply being able to get it off your chest is a big first step.
Well, I publicly came out as trans. I was expecting hate and rage. Instead it’s mostly verbal support if anything was said at all.

By 1880 the word was most definitely derogatory. Would you support its removal from the novel?
I’d be surprised if anyone on this site, of all places, would be okay with that type of revisionism, though I’ve always thought that the proposed “clean” version would be useful for schools where they might otherwise not read the book at all.
I think a good way of handling it would be to have the original version preserved in such a way that it can be looked up easily for academic studies or education, even if that’s not the “default” format available to the public.
I’m more familiar with the Despec and SSE than I am with the GOUT, so I can’t comment on how the GOUT does it.
Someone mentioned how obvious they felt the rotoscoping in Star Wars Despecialized 2.5 is, that the opening crawl wobbles and then speeds up weirdly at the end, and wishes the picture quality was more consistent.
The gate weave of the crawl is supposed to be there, though I agree the acceleration feels artificial (as far as I can tell, SSE suggests it should be a more gradual acceleration).
