As a MASSIVE fan of the Hal9000 prequel edits, one small audio change that most of us know in “The Approaching Storm” is the transition from Anakin and Padme’s sunset kiss to Obi Wan leaving Kamino.
I wanted to try redoing the audio transition with rescored music and replaced sfx. Let me know what you guys think! 😃
I love the way he did the convo before anakin and obi wan fight. The one line that sticks out is “anakin, face up to what you’ve done”. I just can’t believably buy that as Ewan Mcgregor. I wish it did, cause Anakin’s response of “Don’t ask me to do that” pulled from earlier in the movie works perfectly.
The back and forth of “What did you tell her?” “The truth” is AWESOME. I love how Obi wan kneels down to look at Padme as he says his response.
Just wanted to pop in and say that the integration of the shamook deepfakes for Tarkin and Leia is ASTOUNDINGLY GOOD. It’s not a complete departure from the uncanny valley, but my god, does it look miles better than the theatrical versions of those two characters. Comparing the two is like night and day. Truly awesome work Hal and those who helped integrate the footage!
Are there any official fanedits that have incorporated this training scene into AOTC? Snooker’s concept video is amazing and I was thinking it might already be perfect enough to slot into my own personal edit.
What do you consider as official? The only one I am aware of that uses it is the “Bebert Cut” that can be found on Reddit. I mostly liked it, particularly the musical score, but I was not impressed with the de-aging in my opinion. There was also a botched transition towards the end of the flashback that gets cut when Anakin charges at Obi Wan.
The Snooker version is visually superior to what I saw in the edit and complete. However, I would prefer a different musical score. It felt a bit out of place for me, and some of the dialogue was hard for my ears to pick up as it was swallowed by the music.
True. The dialogue is a bit low in the mix. If that could just be raised in volume a tad bit, I think the snooker clip could most likely be put into an edit seamlessly. Now I just need to figure out how to raise the dialogue volume in that clip, unless snooker is interested in raising those levels and exporting the clip again.

The basic idea is to move the burying obi-wan in rocks to the very end of the duel so that after Kenobi walks away from Vader with a sliced helmet, he screams out “Obi-Wan” then cracks the ground with the force, proceeding to bury Obi-Wan, walk away from the fight the victor. Then Obi-Wan climbs out and the fight is over.
If we can make this work, I think it would make the duel even more amazing than it already is (I quite enjoyed the fight outside of the nonsensical ending where Obi-Wan lets Vader live).

I love the duel but the idea that Obi-wan fully accepts that Anakin is dead and Vader is all that’s left, yet he refuses to kill him for no reason. It is a huge issue for me and hopefully my little workprint shows the direction a fanedit could take to solve this issue.
The one hard part that would fix everything together is the vfx work of replacing vader’s mask with the half-cut version. With those vfx shots, the idea could be fully implemented, so the issue is finding someone of talent who is passionate enough to work on those shots.
So excited!!! I have been putting together an edit where it is your audio changes but with all higher quality video put over it since I enjoy your changes so much. This is sincerely the most ambitious edit of ROTS I’ve ever seen.

Have you considered incorporating Shamook’s redone VFX of Luke’s first entrance in the Mandalorian Season 2 Finale? Some shots don’t look good as far as the mouth movements go but I believe I using a few re-done Shamook shots could really help bridge the Luke we see in the Mandalorian with the more realistic Luke seen in the Book of Boba Fett?
Not yet. I’m going to wait as long as it takes for someone to take up a similar interest in pulling this off because it was an epic duel and it would be great to fix the character inconsistency in the original fight.
I believe I could pull off the general editing and re-ordering of the sequence with new sfx and transitions and reframing/zoomed shots but there are unavoidable shots that need VFX work done on Vader’s mask (changing it from whole to cut in half).
That’s the one VFX work that is needed to complete the idea. Hoping someone of that skill set is eventually interested in tackling this concept.
