ALIEN: REVISITED movie edit (* unfinished project *)
Time

If there is a seperate forum, I apologize...

I am looking forward to a decent DUNE fanedit.... I have the Third Stage edition which is pretty good, but still has some niggles.

I'm a great fan of the original Lynch Theatrical cut, the end still pricks up the hairs on my neck.

As for a working title... how about, DUNE:RESPICED?

or just simply, if its going to be be as pure and complete a project as Ady's ANH:R... just call it the Kwizats-Haderach Edition?

I'd like to see the Ornithopters actually 'flap' their wings, just like in the book. And the appearance of the Guild Heighliner appearing above Arrakis could be made a bit more dramatic.

Were you thinking of changing those early space scenes at all? Because they do look very dated now. You could completely redesign the heighliner... that would be very cool. And some new CGI on the Encyclopaedia that Paul reads. And a better-looking body shields. And more realistic worms. And... ;-)</p>

The shot on the left is from the '04 DVD and was given the altered BG for the '97 SE. The shot on the right is the BG from the OUT. Clearly someone from Lucas farked up during the SE - unheard of isn't it? I'm sure Ady can clean this up very easily. I like Imperialfighters suggestions for improving the detail on the set.

Star Wars: One Death Star to Rule Them All (6 become 1) (* unfinished project *)

How about this for a darker ending.....

Whatever you do in the lead up, consider this as an alternate ending.

The planet that the DS is orbiting in ROTJ is Kashyyk. The rebel fortress is there. No ewoks, just wookiees (as GL first supposedly envisioned). All ground battle scenes that dont have ewoks (if possible) are spliced with the Kashyyk scenes from ROTS - obviously you cant use yoda etc. Han, Leia and Chewie are down there, trying to destroy the communications satellite dish that will lead the empires ground forces to the rebel fortress and kill the rebellion and all good and right people in the galaxy. Which becomes moot when......

When Luke is on the DS, and Palpatine says "Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational Battle Station!".....they fire and BOOOOOM! The planet below is destroyed! Cut to Nien-numb's shocked face, and Ackbar's falling into his chair, sinking his head. Luke grabs his saber after ages of inner conflict and whining and tries to cut the Emperor in two, now he's got a proper motive, and leading into the final fight. (Palpatine's just destroyed Luke's friends, sister, and also wiped out an entire legion of His own ground troops. The Greater Good, and all that. But I digress.)

When Luke's about to finish vader and turn to the dark side, you could intercut it with the scene from ROTS with anakin. Top-notch editing and some clever timing could intercut the two scenes very well, even coinciding the fall of Mace Windu with the fall of palpatine. All hell breaks loose in space, one of the DS lasers destroys Home One, the battle rages, culminating eventually in the fortuitous destruction of the DS. One-all. But the empire's fleet and the rebels are massively depleted. And, crucially, Han, Leia, Chewie are all dead, and the droids are vaporised.

With most of the rest of the rebels dead, luke still escapes the DS with Vader's body, returns to Tatooine, holds the lone Jedi funeral. The force ghosts of Ben, Yoda, and Anakin appear. Maybe include a shot of the Falcon returning to Bespin. Fade out on Luke looking at the (solemn, not smiling) Ghosts and beyond, to the twin suns?

Interesting idea that only really came to me this evening, and it would be a true darker end to the saga.

If I took an original Van Gogh, cut it up, rearranged it, painted in some new bits, and then showed it at a gallery, would I be shot down?

Not if the original continued to exist and you acknowledged its creator. Oh wait... how many millions of copies has Star Wars sold? How many of us will, even though we despise the colour problems and the SE fiddling, and have a version without them, still go and buy it again when it comes out on Blu-Ray?

Hmmm, but I guess it would be slightly different with the Van Gogh, as there would only be one, and it would be mine, so I could do what I like with it. As you say, there are eight gazonkillion copies of some version of SW out there, and everyone owns at least two, I'm sure.

"Learn about the power of the Fanedit, Luke!"

Re: the lightsaber duel argument....is anyone remembering that Vader doesnt have real limbs, therefore cannot produce sith lightning nor do any flippy-floppy stuff? And that in ESB he doesn't want to kill Luke anyway, and probably was pretty reluctant to in ROTJ too. And ol' Papa Palpatine can, to quote Paul Atreides, probably "kill with a word" anyway.

So ner!

ffs please stop with the AT-AT laser thing! They are red, and have been red forever. There is A: ABSOLUTELY no need to change them - we never see another AT-AT fire in the whole hexology so there are no continuity issues whatever. This whole thing about the imperials being green lasered and the rebels red just doesnt wash. I've never cared! And B: it would be an enormous headache for Ady (not doubting his talent of course) and I don't want to fund somebody's Codeine addiction! :-D

While we're on the topicof asteroids, I'm wondering: what of the asteroid that's actually a sneaker that flies by? Keep it, or composite another asteroid on top of it?

And while you're at it, the SSD that has the Toy Soldier in it...maybe the little GI could launch a mortar attack and shout "Get soooome!"

Just another shot that didn't need to be added. If there as a way i could show the rounding up of the imperials & maybe add some shots that show that many battles had taken place simultaneously around the galaxy where the Empire has been defeated then it would be a better ending for me.

A simultaneous battle on/around Sullust would be awesome! If you have to shoot new scenes, I'm there!

Why does no-one like Yub-Nub!??? I was seven at the time and loved it, still do!

I hate the yub yub ending. The SE is way better. The music is great and we see more which is needed.

Let me guess your under 20, right? Most young people love the 04' SE DVDs, most 40+ who remember the OUT as it was when we saw it IN PERSON, AT THE THEATER, prefer the OUT more. Or at least certain parts of it more....like the original ROTJ ending...

The SE music is LAME. It doesn't even keep to the tempo the people and ewoks are dancing to.

But this is all a mute argument. I respect Ady's decisions and choices for HIS edit....this is just one I don't happen to agree with...

However, the improvements to picture quality and getting rid of the 04 SE slave backup singers will more than make up for it....

I am under 20 yes but I grew with the pre SE ending and liked it but then saw the SE ending for the first time and realized that the old ending was weaker IMO. I like the new music so much it makes feel like the end of a saga IMO.

The music for the SE is one of the few things I like about it.  No more of the damned Yub yub.  And I am in my mid 30's.

I am not trying to pick a fight or stirr up any trouble, but why would the tempo of the ending music matter.  It isn't source music.   Only the audience is listening.

Why would the tempo matter?? It's a celebration, not a funeral! And the Ewoks were actually PLAYING the music, so not only the audience but everyone in the forest was listening. To me, its as sacrilegious to change that music (and, for that matter, Lapti Nek), as it would have been to change the Cantina music!

MY LAST POST IN THIS THREAD ON THIS SUBJECT!!! PROMISE!

"Ya-na na na naaaaaaaaaa!..." segueing perfectly into the SW Anthem was a goosepimple moment for me, and still is. The new music didn't satisfy me at all.

Plus, the without the GOUT ending there would BE no EU. If everything was wrapped up nicely with the popping of a giant quaffle, then I wouldn't be writing "The Rise of Darth Scourge"!  OK, a cheap plug and actually my story has nothing whatever to do with the classic characters, but my inspiration came from the same stock that all the other EU writers did.
