Ask a 'Merican! / Ask a Brit / Ask a (insert other nationality here)
Time

In the spirit of greater cultural understanding, I want to have a thread dedicated to.. um.. greater cultural understanding.

I remember reading Harry Potter and the Thing of the Whatever and wondering if things in the book were wizarding references or just British.  And I am sure my friends across the pond get just as befuddled by movies like Rocky IV.

So, let me start with a question to my British mates*:
Which is cooler? Trafalgar Square or Piccadilly Circus?

*"Buds" for all my American friends reading this.

Disney Acquires LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, Episode 7 in 2015, 8 and 9 to Follow, New Film Every 2-3 Years
Time

I'm sure you all were wondering what Sluggo's thoughts were on all this mess.  The whole thing happened so fast that it has been tough to wrap my brain around it.

I think the films will be good but I don't know if they will be great.  The toughest thing for me to get behind is the fact that ROTJ brought everything together in a nice, hurried and suffocating package.  To quote 3PO, "This is suicide, there is no where to go."  The rushed ending of Episode III didn't leave any room to grow either.  If they had even hinted at something else in the Universe in III, they could have gone with something.  But as it is... is anyone's guess.  I'm sure they can write a good story, amazing movies are written all the time.  I don't know if I care at this point.  I'm going to go see it, but right now, that is because I am interested in seeing what others can do with the franchise.  They certainly will be much better films that the prequels.

The rumors are flying of getting Fisher, Ford and Hamill back together.  The old "Together again, huh." "Wouldn't miss it" ad campaign will write itself.  But do they have the chops to do it right?  Is the old chemistry still there?  I don't want to be skeptical IF these films will reunite our favorite threesome, but I don't know.

And will we get a beautiful release of the OUT in hi-def blu-ray?  Of course we will.  Why not?  Disney is savvy enough to know how to do it right.  Now that the Mouse is now "The Maker", the so called 'original vision' for the Special Editions etc are now rather moot.  The Mouse can spin it anyway that he likes.

Lastly, and this is the most exciting possibility for me (although it is a minute one) is the idea of rebooting the prequel trilogy.  C'mon Disney, take a page from your other adopted son Marvel.  Hulk, remember that?  Of course you don't.  Nobody does.  It was rebooted before Banner had a chance to go buy purple stretchy pants.  Spiderman?  Yup, same thing.  Do the right thing, Disney.  Reboot the prequels to actually match the classic trilogy and to give this sequel trilogy some roots.

Here's a piece by my favourite comic book artist, Mark Bagley.

Bagley is definitely the definative Spidey - and Venom - artist in my book. And I love the way he drew Mary Jane back in the '90s; I wouldn't be surprised if his MJ was the major influencing factor behind my preference for redheads.

I've got that poster.  In storage.  It is awesome.
