Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I hate to ask for donations, but I can’t currently afford to renew the license (I do the work for UPP as a freelancer and there wasn’t a lot of work these past three months and though there’s much more work now, after Christmas I could barely afford the rent), so if I want to continue working on Despecialized, I have to ask for donations for the software licenses. A yearly subscription to the whole Creative Cloud package is 725,85 € including tax - that’s about $900.

So, please, if you can spare a bit of money, my paypal is harmypaypal@email.cz

If you add a message with your name with your donation, I’ll put you in the credits, of course!

Thank you and sorry that I have to do this.

Dang. Sorry, Harmy. I’m afraid the only currency I have to donate is my time. 😦

I have no desire for a Myspleen account as I don’t have the data to be able to make large downloads like that anyway. Actually, I’ve been having great success with FreeRapid Downloader and Uloz and downloading at work. I can leave an external drive and my laptop and just download overnight (or over the week) until it’s all done.

I have tons of old CDs with sticker labels on them. I’ve never had a problem reading them (yet), but once one of my discs got stuck in an iMac (which has the drive in the monitor itself) and I had a lot of trouble getting it back out. I was lucky that it actually did. I’ll never use stickers again due to that and the fear of ruining hardware that was mentioned earlier. Printable discs are the way to go for sure. Seems like a less “homemade” way to go too once it’s done. Aligning the printing area perfectly to the disc can be a challenge, and the exact measurements/orientations can change depending on the disc type/brand. As you might be able to tell from my recent photos in the NJVC Bluray Collection thread, I got the orientation slightly off for ANH and ESB. By the time I did ROTJ and the documentaries I had it ironed out and pretty much perfect. So definitely practice on other discs.

There are printers you can buy with a disc slot where you place an ink-jet printable disc and then it’s just a matter of choosing the mode in the driver when you go to print. I was lucky as my workplace has a CD/DVD burning robot with a printer built in. Not the best quality, but better than nothing. There are certainly better ones out there.

Who Designed The CGI Jabba In The 1997 Special Edition?
Time

I hate this scene because it totally ruins Jabba’s character as portrayed in ROTJ. In ROTJ he was far bigger and more forboding of a character that people (including Han) actually feared. In ANH he’s just a joke and it’s more like Han is pushing HIM around. Ridiculous. I’d never believe they were the same character if it weren’t for the name. I’d even buy that it was one of Jabba’s lesser hutt henchmen (the 97 version, anyway). I was so surprised when I saw that for the first time. How awful and unrepresentative of the actual ROTJ Jabba it looked. Awful. The Bluray one is more accurate, but I still feel like he’s too small, and that’s besides the jarring character inconsistencies.

Also, every CGI Jabba has a terrible voice. ROTJ Jabba actually sounded real. All CGI Jabba’s (TPM, TCW, Rebels (is he in Rebels? I don’t remember), ANH) voices sound like somebody just recorded something quick and pitched it down. Well…he was a little better in TCW.

Star Wars vs. A New Hope - Which do you say and why?
Time

I know, I said as much. I’m just sharing my perspective. I’ll also go ahead and clarify that it feels wrong for ME to just refer to ANH as “Star Wars”. I’m not saying anyone is wrong for disagreeing and not following suit.

Also, it was 1995, not 1994. My bad. The faces box set didn’t come out until 1995 and that’s what we had. I was mistaken. Minor note, but I wanted to correct myself.

Star Wars vs. A New Hope - Which do you say and why?
Time

I first saw Star Wars in 1994 with the THX VHS rereleases which said Episode IV A New Hope. The case (with the Faces covers) just said Star Wars, though. I remember that always bugging me the OTHER way. All the movies had the same Star Wars intro logo (not one named after each movie) and then Episode X - Blah Blah Blah in the opening crawl. I understand why when Star Wars came out that it was just called “Star Wars” and that’s how the more old-timer fans remember it, but once the other movies came out, it was clear it needed a subtitle of its own. Now that downside to this was that “A New Hope” never got any fancy title style of its own like ESB and ROTJ did. It was usually just small text on or underneath the main Star Wars logo. So it wasn’t as “official” as the titles of Ep5 and Ep6. That’s the problem. But I also understand not retrofitting Star Wars with a new logo, that might tick off people even more.

Anyway, that’s how I’ve always felt about it. It feels wrong to just refer to ANH as “Star Wars” considering the entire rest of the series. What bugs me about the new sequel trilogy is that none of them have special logos of their own. It’s just the Star Wars logo (in multiple colours now, it looks like) with small text for each subtitle. Kind of wish they’d make custom logos for each subtitle like ESB and ROTJ. Even the prequels had a style to the subtitles as their own logo, even if they were all pretty much the same looking. It was more than small text.

Process so far! I use the face covers because they’re my favourite, but underneath I also have the NJVC covers as well as it has more info especially to what’s actually on the disc that I can switch to at my pleasure. You might be able to see slightly on the ANH and ESB discs that I filled in the off-center white border in the middle hole with a sharpie so it wouldn’t look quite as bad lol. Fortunately, ROTJ printed perfectly. If I ever get more BD50 discs I might attempt to burn them again and get them centered properly.

The covers and inserts I printed on some nice glossy presentation paper with my work’s laser colour printer so it looks legit! Only problem is there are some embedded lines (not ink, but like the paper was pressed slightly inside the machine) but it’s barely noticeable especially when it’s all mostly black.

So happy with this compilation! Very definitive! Perfect for the shelf.

I came upon that same post actually just yesterday when I was researching further (I haven’t tried the Opc option thing yet but I shall). I did look up new firmware for my drive too and found one (I was apparently one version behind) but when I tried to run it it said device mismatch or something. I looked that up and apparently there are two models of my burner and one of them doesn’t need to be updated and is already on the newest version for it (1.02) and won’t work with 1.03 for the other variation. I also don’t get write errors, though. It says that the sectors don’t match. I found one post that said this was because the drive and the burning program argue that certain clusters of data is located in different sectors than the other claims. Something like that.

I burned SW without a hitch. ESB ran into this error and wouldn’t finalize. ROTJ ran into the same error but DID finalize. Only part of the disc is readable. I’m just wondering if it was the discs themselves or if it was just an odd chance of this happening to any disc. I guess I won’t know until I experiment more which I’m going to do today. I’ll just buy more discs. I should have gotten a 10 pack, though. I just didn’t expect it to error out 2 times out of 3 as I thought I was taking all the proper precautions. I guess that’s just the nature of it, though.

Man, it seems that with every new technology it becomes less stable than the last. Used to be able to burn CDs at full speed without any problems (most of the time). Then DVD-R’s came out and you had to slow it down. Now we’re at BD-R’s and they error out on the slowest speeds two times out of three. Sigh.

EDIT 2: Just attempted another burn at 1x and it is indeed a limitation of the drive itself. Oh well. Guess I’m just going to be running into this from time to time. That’s too bad.

EDIT 3: Just finished another burn attempt at 2x for ESB and it was a success! I don’t know if the OPC function is what it or what. Will find out when I attempt ROTJ.

EDIT 4: Ok just finished ROTJ. It’s verifying now, but it seems that OPC option thing did the trick! Either that or I got really lucky. Really happy. Now I just need to get more discs to burn the last BD50 documentaries disc, but at least I got all 3 movies. 😃

I bought a 20 discount spindle of the same thing and had no issues with x1 in ImgBurn. Could be a burner issue, but that’s just a guess.

It could be a limitation of the burner itself, I suppose. Nothing I can find indicates such, though…

I have a question. There’s a PDF that comes with the artwork for the NJVC set for inserts (not covers) that have the subtitle, special feature, audio languages, chapters lists, etc. I’m assuming these are little foldover booklets that go inside the case where the discs are. But they don’t seem to be sized for the correct dimensions for a Bluray insert. Are they? What are the physical dimensions of a Bluray insert (again, not cover)?

I’m not sure I know what PDF you are describing. Without posting a direct link, can you point me to where you found the artwork in question?

Holy cow. Somehow I didn’t download them all. I see that there ARE indeed labels for the documentary discs. Please ignore my request lol. (I was referring to the artwork links in the OP)

Hmm upon closer inspection, the graphic (and description) seems to say 1x-6x. But it doesn’t support 1x. I could have sworn it said 2x…

Star Wars Despecialized Editions - Custom Bluray Set (Released)

Just got my blank BDRs today in the mail (from Japan, HTL, BD50, ink-jet printable) so I started burning my ISOs with ImgBurn as directed. It went through Star Wars just fine and I tested it and it works great. I started burning ESB and I get an error half way through saying:

“Failed to Write Sectors 10171008 - 10171039 - Reason: Invalid Field in CDB”

Doing a bit of research I discovered this means the burner and the ISO basically have a difference of opinion on the ISO size or something. Is this just a bum burn/disc? Will this happen again? I only ordered 5 discs and I need at least 4 for the 4 BD50 ISOs provided in this 6 ISO collection. If I try again with another disc will the same error occur? I guess my real question is, is it something wrong with the ISO or the disc I was using?

EDIT: Well, shoot. Just tried skipping over ESB and burning ROTJ and the same error occurred. Now that’s two bum discs. Are errors really this common? My first burn went so well…
