Purist idea that I can understand, but you would lose Clone Wars and the good The Clone Wars episodes (as well as the best of Rebels that is based on the previous tv series). The will to erase EpI and EpII (even if they contain good material from time to time) is something I could agree with (could, not would 😃), but I like most of EpIII so I wouldn’t erase it for Rogue One that I consider to be inferior in every way (besides, both Darth Vader scenes only make sense if you do acknowledge EpII-III…). So let’s take R1 as EpIII, but you need some kind of EpII made of ROTS with scenes from EpI-II as flashbacks (since R1 uses flashback structure this is no longer a stylistic issue). Then take 2003-2005 Clone Wars as Episode I (but it’s a cartoon…). Don’t know if the Han Solo movie could do the trick as a prequel episode. So it could go that way:

EpI- ROTS with TPM and AOTC scenes as flashback (3-1 movie edit ?)
EpII- Han Solo movie
EpIII- Rogue One

or
EpI- Clone Wars
EpII- ROTS (theatrical fanedited, 3-1, whatever you want)
EpIII - Rogue One (theatrical or fanedited)

(I don’t like it - I’m very fond of the I-VI structure of the main original hexalogy saga - but the idea is fun)

When I see the stunning result achieved through fanediting, I’m pretty sure that an “official fixing” of this movie could very well be a good entry. But Lucas only made it a little bit worse on bluray… I used to hate the new canon about the clone wars delievered with AOTC (which wasn’t what I was expected at all) but 15 years later I’m at peace with that (and the initial ideas about that can still be used as a “prequel prequel trilogy” 😃). But this is wishful thinking…

Sorry but I think that “all craft” sounds terrible… but the rest is very good (is “all craft” necessary ?). Maybe without the “radio effect” (or lessen down) it could work better ?

Rogue One, Episode I-II-III-VII are made the exact same way… (and at least I-II-III have a story to tell, no just “star wars porn” and empty fan-service…)

Also interesting to hear Lucas talking about the prequels 7 years before TPM, because the movies are exactly what he explained they would be (at the exception of “not being too different”, because they are quite different but still infused with the Star Wars spirit).

Everything is true. All of it. Even if I despise the movie, it was great to see a complementary take on this matter (things Lucas wrote and forgot about for some reasons). I don’t think it pays off in the finished movie but it gave Rogue One a… little something. I now hope they (lucasfilm) go to another level and make a worthy addition to the saga (and I mean the saga as a whole, from I to IX - yep, even VII-VIII-IX, it might still be a “good” trilogy, we don’t know for sure yet -, since I don’t think the prequels are that bad compared to the new movies), by getting back in time => Old Republic & Jedi Order vs Mandalore & Sith Empire, please ! (ask Guillermo Del Toro, give him full power on the project, and I want Ron Perlman as a SW vilain as well !).

Well, I think that Rogue One is, by far and without contest, the worst Star Wars ever, so I wouldn’t want this awful movie as Episode III. And I really like Episode III the way it was released in theater (even if I prefer solid fanedits of it to remove the little bits I don’t like). Even Episode II is way better than Rogue One (!). And even with not perfect movies I like the “2 trilogies” structure developed by Lucas with his 6 movies saga, something you would completely lose by cutting down them to 5 movies with the terrible (which doesn’t add anything of value) Rogue One inserted into it.

Keeping the Yoda scene and the war room can only be done by removing the end of the scene (which could actually work fine).

@Octorox, your edit is going to use Yoda vs Sidious I guess ? Having rewatched it today, there is definitely some (very) good stuff in it (visually it’s still stunning). In fact only the very beginning - “not if anything to say I have” - and the crazy laugh at the end are problematic… making the assumption you don’t have an issue with Yoda fighting with a saber, of course ! (Yoda going McClane in the pipe is still embarrassing though…)

I agree there is a repetitive aspect to this scene with the “situation room during Grievous meeting with Obi” scene, but there is also a more layered concern about Palpatine. This scene, placed after the - long - overture was very good to set the mood of an uprising coup d’état from Palpatine. I think you should have inserted it (but I assume you’ll do that for your “real” edit of Episode III).

Interesting project for the ones who like the theatrical cut and only wish to get (good) extra material. Thanks !

The Jump Street movies are very fun and full of innovative ideas. Too innovative for Star Wars it seems… too bad…

You’re right actually, the last front used by Hal is the best (but don’t remind him that Sir Ridley’s front are even better 😄). But if Smudger9 is willing to deliver a v2 of his edits I hope he addresses more important issues than just the front of the opening crawl.

I concur. It’s fantastic (it kinda reminds me of the best scene of Episode III). I’m also very pleased to read that other fanedits are going to use the restructured version as a base, this is such an improvement over the theatrical cut (I’ll just need to “merge” Sir Ridley’s, DigMod’s and NeverarGreat’s edits to get the “perfect cut” of VII according to my taste 😄).
