The one on the right matches my memory.
The one on the right matches my memory.
I hear they put the 1891 monument in storage, which is better than simply destroying it. I think it’s important to remember not just what we value now, but what we once valued in the past, this includes the bad. The monuments are physical evidence of this. We never valued Benedict Arnold, but we do value all the innocent lives lost in the conflict, and once valued the lives of people like General Lee, who I honestly can’t fault for fighting the Union anyway, the guy might be the worst Confederate figure to point at for dishonor and suppression.
In regards to the rest of the discussion, I’m in general agreement with Dom (I think this is the first time we’ve been on the same side of an issue in this thread).

That’s fascinating, I didn’t know that. It doesn’t really hurt my argument, if that was the intention, though I’m glad I learned something new today.

Hmm, good point, maybe I’m on the wrong side of this after all.
Hey, don’t turn on me now! 😉

In the coming days, the city will also remove three statues of Confederate Gens. Robert E. Lee and P.G.T. Beauregard and Confederate President Jefferson Davis, now that legal challenges have been overcome.
Are we trying to pretend the Civil War never happened? Robert E. Lee is probably the least offensive prominent Confederate figure. He’s nowhere near as bad as George Wallace, who actually ran for President on a white supremacy platform… in 1968. I don’t feel like these removals are really thought through.
My advice is to give up on girls and just wait. High school is hell and everyone there is a dipshit or doesn’t have your best interest in mind. I approached it like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and got burned hard. Honesty is not valued. Everyone decieves and gossips. It’s hell. And it doesn’t get better. So give up now and admit to yourself you’re better off alone. That’s what I eventually learned.

Lets just say this was an…interesting interview.
Aah, my last Thanksgiving dinner.
I will say one thing that bothered me more this time around is the Mustafar scene. Vader doesn’t seem right at all, he sounds weird and he walks weird, and I hate the pun.
Glad I’m no longer alone here, at least.
And with that said I still love the end scene. The terror on the Rebels faces is perfect.
I still have to rewatch it, this might not be as bad as I remember.
I filed my taxes today. Thanks Obama.
Too much information.
AOTC film prints were of notoriously poor quality. As it was also originally digitally projected, using a 35mm print as the definitive reference to how it should look is misguided. It was meant to be digitally projected.
Actually in 2002 the majorities of the cinemas / movie theatres on the planet have projected the movie from 35mm prints. So…
So… what? It was simultaneously digitally projected, and that was marketed as the preferred version. A 35mm film print would not give a definitive answer as to how that film was meant to be seen.
However, the 35mm film prints had a different cut of the film, so if one ever becomes available, it would be great to see that alternate cut.
This “alternate” cut is the “original theatrical cut” for most of the world
Fair enough, as I said, the different cut is the primary reason a 35mm print should be preserved here.

“It [fake news] affects both the right and the left. It affects educated and uneducated. So the stereotypes of it being simply right-wing and simply uneducated are 100% not true,” says Jeff Green, who is the CEO of Trade Desk, an internet advertising company that was recently commissioned by American TV channel CBS to investigate who is reading and sharing fake news online.
I feel like that doesn’t even need to be said, but nonetheless I hear about these stereotypes from family at all times. More interestingly:
And the study revealed another disturbing trend: the more you consume fake news, the more likely you are to vote. It’s “fascinating and frightening at the same time,” says Green.
And also:
"People like to share information that makes them feel good, " she says.
Indeed.

No I didn’t potatochop these…these are real vintage ads.
That one isn’t real. Here’s the original:
Do you happen to know a guy by the name of jedimasterobiwan?
I think they’re likely as separate as Chancellor Palpatine and Darth Sidious.
I highly doubt that, I mean it’s possible bit i don’t see the motivation.
I think the motivation would be that since he’s been scolded more than a few times, he probably set up a second account in case his first gets banned. The sentence structure and language used is just too similar between the two posters. Of course, it could also be a troll trying to “emulate” Obi-Wanspeak but I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that’s not the case.
I think that is unlikely. sentence structure (or the lack there of) is not really an indicator. I think it’s just common for millennials to not have any web etiquette and a small vocabulary.
I’m 32. this isn’t me being a jerk but call me a kid makes you sound like a jerk again 32.
If you’re 32, you were born in 1985, which makes you a millennial.
I have to pay my respects to Don Rickles, he was a massive influence on me.
Genuinely curious, how so?
His cavalier attitude, and tendency to just say and do whatever he thought was massively appealing to me. He never wrote any of his jokes, though he’d repeat some, he never had anything planned, so most if not all of his performances were improv. Him being around was a big confidence booster.

- Revenge of the Sith
- A New Hope
- The Phantom Menace
- The Empire Strikes Back
- Return of the Jedi
- The Force Awakens
- Attack of the Clones
- Rogue One
Why is Rogue One last out of curiosity?
That’s not actually my ranking. But I’ve mentioned my pet peeves with the film in question before.
Add me into everyone.
Dammit. This thread does exist.
I’m taking a break from this place. I’ve been an off-and-on poster since 2014, but somehow began posting daily around the end of December. I really enjoy this place, but damn, it starts to sound like a broken record after awhile.
I’ll be back, I think.
As far as I can see it’s 60 minutes of some guy talking about Garfield. Unless I’ve missed something, how is that a movie?
It’s a commentary on our post modern world, setting its sights on the very idea of criticism with biting irony and satire, without a hint of sarcasm that so often befalls other works of parody. It employs actors, production design, uses the entire Philip Glass score for Kundun, and in a similar vein to Best Picture winner Birdman and Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope, uses a single, unbroken take. It’s production values are high enough to be considered a professional effort, I don’t know what to really call it if not a movie, it is certainly art of some kind.
Seems more like some sort of video essay? I mean the concept of “movie” is a rather nebulous term so technically you could apply it to all manner of videos. That doesn’t mean you should, though.
Then F for Fake isn’t really a movie if “video essays” are excluded? It’s much more than just that one video, it’s really crazy the further you dig into it, requiring a near decade worth of preparation. I just felt like sharing it. I honestly did not expect controversy posting it, I put it here after being reprimanded for posting a video in the random images thread, since there’s no thread for non-Star Wars video finds.
Honestly, it’s not as if TFA is some kind of masterpiece even worth raving about. It was okay, not amazing, not awful. I’m sick of seeing all this condescension over it.
Isn’t this post itself condescending?
I don’t give a damn, I’m sick of seeing the same fight over and over again in every thread.
Also, I think it’s pretty clear DE is on the same page as you there.
I don’t. He was one of two instigators which prompted my post.

It’s much better. Last time I screened it with a few friends there were no complaints.
