SW Episode III - Reign of the Dark Side (* unfinished project *)
Time

This is a great project. I agree with all changes, clips are beautiful, great colors, great dialoge trimming, great decisions made. It's going to be a very watchable movie (hopefully), I just have one thing in mind - I hope that the new pace/rhytm fits the whole new-edited movie. Thank you bobgarcia74 and everybody else who cares about right decisions! Cheers

J. Williams & LSO, The EMPIRE STRIKES BACK AUDIOPHILE EDITION - Restored & Remastered Score (Released)

ABC! I try to figure out a correct way to put your beautiful CD - cover together using file "Booklet and covers". A question... how to make 3 CD cover in a right way? Could you post a pair of cover(s) - photos so one could see the end result? It would give one an idea how to cut and glue everything in place.

For example: Sheet B - recto: "Paste separate pocket on white mark"

- Why is the white mark on a visible recto - side of that?

- Where and what is exactly "the separate pocket" here in the collection?

- Is "pocket" something I have to buy separately?

- There are only clearly shown covers for CD 1 & 2. Do I have to take CD 3-cover from another file (short booklet & covers) ?

Thank you for helping, it may help others as well. Cheers

Ady, the clip is WONDERFUL! I can't get over the new Cloud City, it looks beyond professional! Just a couple things:

1. After 3P0 tells R2 to access the computer terminal, he then says "R2, hurry". Could this be changed to just "Hurry"? There's no need for him to say "R2" again.

Hi, I disagree. It's 3PO and it's a protokoll droid, he is programmed to adress anybody who he talks with and even more often if the talking subject is turned to the opposite direction. Also it sounds emotionally worried and intimate and that's why we love this robots.

Thanx for a great clip Ady; but on the end of it the new sky moves in opposite direction!

hmmm, no it doesn't

Yes you are right, its really ok. I don't know why I strongly got that impression on a first sight; maybe because if one doesn't look AT the sky but to the action going, there is an impression of sky moving PARALELL with the ramp; but maybe it's only me. I wouldn't have noticed it in 3D :-)))

J. Williams & LSO, The EMPIRE STRIKES BACK AUDIOPHILE EDITION - Restored & Remastered Score (Released)
Time

Hello. I just wrote a big review for 2 1/2 hours. I send it. Suddenly OT.com asks me on a new page to log in again. I went back to copy my long review, but it was gone. I looked for any kind of drafts after logging in but it wasn't there. I'm out of my mind.

Ok, i'll write another though. But shorter.

Happy ESB day to averybody incl. George Lucas (where would we be without him).

ABC: thank you for all your work(s). The result is simply beautiful.

                                  REVIEW of ESB AE

I have to say that a lots of things in life are the matter of taste and ABC's has a very good one.

cd 1 & 2

This successful work of ABC not only manages to make all 3 music sources sound alike but also manages to sound like first RSO release, deep, clear and now completed. I allwas liked Tomlissons Anthology: crude and direct 120° panorama - mixes most because they made me listen as if was there where I sit last 20 years: in the middle of an Orchestra. This AE mix of yours is more like sitting in a 10th raw of filled 1000-places middle big concert hall. It is beautiful to be able to listen ESB in RSO-way but fullfiled.

I didn't read details about the mixes of separate tracks yet , but listened to the whole in one piece. It's a most complete fullfilled version to date, the most cohesive version with a deep clear sound through it all. I enjoyed it like a great expensive meal, knowing that it's complicated cooking but not wanting to know the ingrediants in detail - to enjoy its magic. It's a labour of craft and love!

The things I noticed:

- LP-cracklings at quiet passages may disturb someone, I enjoyed them like fire-cracklings in warm home and was smiling all the time

- 2 connections missing: "Darth Vader's trap" / "Departure of Boba Fett" (same thematic material, "dealing lightmotiff) as well "Escape from Bespin"/"Hyperspace" (build up/ release) were recorded separately but belong together musically as well as they do in the movie. Now I have to mix them together and integrate myself. Maybe even Luke's first crash / the rebels escape.

- i forgot what I wrote as 3. but i did write something :-(

cd 3

Beautiful new mix of a superb 2 LP - transfer. Deep, clear, SOFT! So nice to hear a real vinyl sound in digital media!

Booklet and artwork

Beautiful. Great pictures and photos compositions, great choices. Very tasteful. Most beautiful artwork for any SW release till date.

Overall thoughts

Most people who love OT are probably in their middle age now. I suppose, the extent of a scene where Yoda pulling Luke's ship out of a swamp doesn't make sense for younger audience used to see force using in SWTCW where Jedi move anything very easy. As I was 11 and Yoda pulled that ship out of swamp, it was like : look what is possible if you really want it! It is difficult to make this dry studio-recorded music for film to sound like balanced dynamised concert performance which was not what it was ment for. At least not until ROTJ came - it's much more hi-fi quality recording. Therefore, it's a great thing for any fan to listen to ESB in all its glory sounding in the same time very original (RSO) and cohesive from the beginning to the end. I was listening to it yesterday with ESB movie put on silent, just music and pictures, and would strongly reccomend Adywan to use it for his ESB:revisited music-only-track. There is some unused score which now could be placed where it belongs. Almost the whole movie was actually scored. Also, ANH and ESB are very strings-driven scores. Maybe it's oldfashioned today, but gives warmth to the story, in contrary to prequels where 24 violins have same volume as 1 oboe (unrealistic) and it's all too quiet because of lightsabers hum or flying ships..the 5.1 music mix phenomenon: too quiet. Adywan, do you plan to make music louder in the rest of a saga? Would be nice... ROTJ stands somewhere inbetween and is probably the best recorded score of entire saga. Musically, for me it's ESB.

Dear George, if you read this, tallented people like Adywan and ABC should actually sit in your ranch as heads of departements instead of other people doing... what exactly?

Greets to ABC, all members, readers, and make yourself a nice jubilee today!

J. Williams & LSO, The EMPIRE STRIKES BACK AUDIOPHILE EDITION - Restored & Remastered Score (Released)

Hello ABC

thanx for your last pm - response. I'll try to post my self-made photo with soundtracks there again cause I don't have anywhere else to post it. I don't know why it didn't show first time as I did exactly as you've told me to do (imageshack).

As I listened different versions of ESB through years and years I allways noticed differences in sound which I thaught, somebody should be able to fix. I never liked the idea of doing it myself, so now I'm very happy to find that someone did that on his own for himself and , I hope, all people interested in it.

The thing with your Thread - popularity isn't so bad as you might think. I'm sure, there are a lots of interesrted people but they are not members of OT.com, or they just simply don't know that this is here, or they have other priorities in their lives then to respond of this thread with great news, although they still feel that this is great news.

I understand that this is a big work you did and would like to thank you once more for accomplishing it. I also woudln't have any problem to donate you for that because this is musically one giant part of my life and it's very important for me to owe it in all its glory.

Have a nice time and greets to averyone at this thread and OT.com

Also, there is another big issue: the ROTJ looks. In ESB almost every shot was a small state of art ( d.o.p. Peter Suschitzky). If you pause every single frame there is beauty in composing a picture, very often there is an object in front and an action going in the rest of screen space behind. Look Luke hanging in the cave or Vader entering distroyed rebel base! Cam is moving backwards, hiding behind distroyed elements, impersonating a scared child that audience instinctivly becomes.

Alan Hume's directing a photography in ROTJ is VERY ordinary so to say, like boring, we see a lot of big clean pictures without any suggestions or mistery. And it is konsequent troughout the whole movie.

So if you change some parts of it to more dramatic coloring with newly composed parts of the picture, they're going to stand out immensly from the rest of the movie.

So one should change it ALL or none to keep the photography continuity. No? Any suggestions?

Cap, this was one of the best explanations of ROTJ failures, thank you for that. "This is not Han Solo" was Kershner's sentence as well, after Ford said "I love you too" in the Bespin carbon chamber. So it was changed to "I know".

Obviously Marquand was not that kind of director. I've seen "The eye of the Needle" and it had too much overblown drama in details so every idiot could understand it as well.

Reading your post I just tried to think, well how can anybody fix this big issues? They are not cosmetics any more. And Ady said that "Jedi is going to be a mess". It really is, but I hope...still...

I saw Jedi first when I was 14. Then I was annoyed with Ewoks. Later I noticed that actors are talking to each other like they are in the middle of a big american city having ordinary day there, exept they wear strange wardrobe.

Why did this happen on Jedi and didn't on Empire? Was Marquand taking it all too lightly?

Why is the movie looking like "OK, everybody! I know the last one was seriously dramatic but now let's have some great fun! Hahaha! War can be really fun! Everybody shoots, but nobody dies because it's ... the fun show and y'know, it's only a movie! Hahaha"

And I would really like to read any kind of statement of Ady regarding this problems, if a great man is not too busy...

Greets to everyone here

1. RETURN OF THE JEDI means RETURN OF ANAKIN SKYWALKER to the good side of the force.

2. It can also mean in less important B-movie style THE RETURN OF THE JEDI TO CINEMAS across the planet.

Very practical but not clearly understood title. Even in Germany some idiot translated it in plural for official release , like "RETURN OF JEDI - KNIGHTS" (Die Rückkehr der Jedi-Ritter)... probably to cinemas across the world...what a misconception...

'fraid not. Actually I wasn't sure how it worked, I had never ignored anyone before. I certainly don't mind many of the ideas or suggestions presented on this thread, even off the wall ones, or any attempt at mock-ups, etc, even when I do not agree with them personally. It's Ady's job to choose which ideas are good or bad, or fit within the vision that is ESB-R. Throw those ideas out and see what sticks. But you do have the responsibility to think those ideas through first. Obviously early on there were plenty of ideas and mistakes to fix, but now it has been so thoroughly dissected that most ideas now discussed are minor tweaks, matte lines, minor effects, and so on while we wait for Ady to build his models.

Janskreet came in late (not a crime) skipped over hundreds of pages of posts and seemingly started throwing out random stuff previously covered. (Again. not a crime but certainly lazy) Janskreet has desperately been trying anything ever since, and early on I considered it trolling, and I wasn't alone. That obviously is not the case, but I felt it necessary for my own sanity, to make the leap, break my streak, and for once hit the ignore button.

I'm certain I am not alone, and someone out there probably ignores me, as well. Heck, this post alone might earn me one or two.

And now back to our regular scheduled programming.

Ok, this really is very well formulated post indeed. I agree with you completely. There are some people from time to time throwing different kind of stuff in here that sometimes seems weird. That hungarian fan approx. half a year ago agressively insisting in very long posts to "go back to screenplay" as it would be some kind of bible or something... that guy didn't get any reactions and simply dissapeared... maybe it will with time happen with Janskeet too incl. his weird avatar (for a european person really weird avatar-idea - what does it mean anyway?) But - it's a democratic forum, so if ignoring happens , it's going to happen without mobbing anyway.

Adywan: I am telling different people which are SW fans and not members of any SW forums about your progress. All of them are awaiting ESB:R wit greatest anticipation and exitement.

Cheers everybody.
