I can’t imagine they’re happy about it. It’s too bad that the public isn’t familiar with all of the great minds involved in Star Wars. I guess it’s like anything else; the Quarterback gets most of the credit /blame for a football game, the President gets most of the credit/blame for everything and George gets most of the credit/blame for Star Wars.

I had the same problem with The 6th Sense. For me it was the fact that HJO’s mom never noticed Bruce Willis. No look, no howdy, nothing. As a parent I can tell you that anytime I find my child in a room with an adult I acknowledge that adult. Just think about it; you walk into a room and see your son sitting there with some guy you don’t fucking know and you aren’t even going to make eye contact with the guy? That dog won’t hunt.

I do like M Knight’s movies for the most part. I enjoyed The 6th Sense despite knowing the “twist” early. I really enjoyed Signs and Unbreakable was good. The Village was ruined for me because one of my friends told me about the “twist” before I saw the film. That being the case I must recuse myself from passing judgment on that film.

I say go for it. If you try and fail you might loose a good friend, but at least you won’t be lying on your deathbed and thinking of what might have been. You’re young, you’ll have many successes and many failures all of which will be better than the “might have beens.” No one dies thinking, “I sure am glad I never sacked-up and told the girl of my dreams my feelings.”

Great. Then when you are struggling to be nice to people on the boards or in real life think about what John would do. If that’s who you aspire to be like do it. Just remember where that got him and make sure you’re ready to follow. If you become a famous artist you can’t “roll with a posse” because John didn’t. You must follow his example, which resulted in his death.

Since I’m a follower of the Jewish Carpenter I can roll with a crew because he did. Of course he sacrificed himself to his cause at age 33. I’m 33 so I’m quite cognizant of the fact that I may be on borrowed time already. Still I take comfort in the fact that I have free will and I’m not perfect so the results of my death may be different. I’m hoping that the death predictor was correct and I’ll die at age 86 in an incident involving a gallon of lotion.

Well I like you just because you have the Apple Logo/Motto in your signature. I’m a long time Mac fan though. Now do you want to know how to get people on the boards to like you or people in real life?

On the boards it’s real easy: be honest, be consistent, be open-minded, be loyal, be diligent, defend the rights of others (even when they disagree with you) and fight to the death for what’s right.

In real life: Same as above, but much more difficult to execute. It’s not that hard to ignore an ignorant comment on a thread. I’ve been ignoring Chrisdo for a week now. It is hard to ignore it when someone cuts you off on the highway. That human essentially just told you that their time is more important than your life. That’s hard to ignore and it’s also why I no longer pack heat when I drive. I pray and I try to follow the ideals of the greatest living Philosopher, Jesus Christ. If you have a faith of some kind then cling to that for strength. If you have no faith then cling to the fact that you have HUGE BALLS and are taking a HUGE RISK with your eternal soul. I think if people would remember their faith in a higher power (or faith that there is no higher power) they would be more resilient.

I joined recently and I don’t start many threads because of that. Still I have noticed that there are more anti-PT threads that have started in the last two weeks or so.

Many threads start out about the OT and end up in PT Bashing. I think CO hit the reason for that center mass; the PT has resulted in changes to the OT. The CGI is annoying in the PT, but when it’s inserted into the OT is boarders on blasphemy.

Originally posted by: Gaffer Tape Hmm, I've never heard of the term echo-boomers to describe the generation after the baby boomers. How long has that been around?

Some use the term to differentiate between young members of Gen-Y (Boomer Echo 1995-2005) and older members (Gen-Y 1985-1995), which is what I think Anchorhead was using it for.

They are Generation Y and even though they are primarily the children of boomers they fall two generations beyond the boomers. Here’s the typical breakdown:

Silent Generation 1925-1945
Baby Boomers 1945-1965
Generation X 1965-1985
Generation Y (Boomer Echo) 1985-2005

There are some variations and those are ballpark numbers. Boomer Echo is a self –centered and insulting term for Gen-Y invented by boomers. Think about what the two terms really mean:

Gen-Y: The generation that followed Gen-X

Boomer Echo: The less accomplished, less revolutionary, less artistic generation that is an echo of boomer greatness.

Boomer echo is just a term invented by self-absorbed Boomers. It has recently become popular because Boomers members of the media have made it that way. The issues that Gen-Y types have are really just a result of their parents; lots of over-parenting where it isn’t needed (50 lbs of padding to ride a bike, acting as a defense attorney for their children) and very little parenting where it is needed (a blowjob is sex even if the President said otherwise). It’s sad because there’s a whole generation out there that never lost a game, never faced down a bully and never skinned a knee. Eventually they will face all of those challenges they’ll just do it 20 years later in life. Unfortunately for them the stakes get higher as you move on in life. Make a wrong turn on your bike and you wind up in the bushes, make a wrong turn in a car and you wind up dead.

These definitions are not written in stone and there are definitely exceptions, but I think the general trends are set until Gen-Y proves otherwise. It’s possible; my generation was derided and beaten down by the Boomers. They gave us a hard time when we entered the workforce. Most of that has died off since productivity numbers show Gen-X is making real contributions to the economy. It isn’t Gen-Y’s turn yet (shit it isn’t Gen-X’s turn yet), but when their time comes they’ll find a way to shine just like every other generation has.

Yes oxidize is a word we use. I can tell you exactly why it’s happening; you have been blowing on your cartridges/ console contacts. Use Rubbing Alcohol (Isopropyl) to clean your contacts and that won’t happen. Alcohol evaporates fast and is, for the most part, non-corrosive. Saliva is very corrosive on metal when combined with oxygen and pollutants.

With the exception of my Atari 5200 I’ve never had problems with my controllers, but consoles are a separate issue altogether. I always replace my consoles when they wear out so look at my current list of systems to see the companies I’ve had issues with:

System Number purchased
Atari 2600 (VCS) 3
Atari 5200 1 (serious controller issues)
Atari 7800 1
Atari Jaguar 1
Mattel Intellivision 2
Coleco Colecovision 1
Nintendo NES 3
Nintendo SNES 1
Nintendo N64 2
Nintendo Game Cube 1
Sega Master System 1
Sega Genesis 1
Sega CD 1
Sega Saturn 1
Sega DreamCast 1
Sony PlayStation 2
Sony PS2 3 (2 original tray, 1 new clam-shell)
SNK Neo Geo (Cart) 1
Microsoft X-Box 1

I’ve had all sorts of problems with Sony systems. Their optical drives are prone to failure. I had 2 CD-ROMS go bad on my original PlayStations and I’ve had two DVD failures on the PS2. I’ve had the new PS2 for about a year now and it seems to hold up well.

Microsoft makes a very solid machine. My X-Box drive tray sticks when closing sometimes, but I have an X-Box with a Thompson Drive and those Models have problems like that. It’s an annoying problem, but not one that prevents using the system.

Nintendo makes a good system. They have a better reputation with their newer systems. The NES had issues with the catch on the cartridge drive failing. I know many people that got past that issue by inserting a second cart on top of the one being played, which would force the game down into place.

The companies that make the most dependable systems are no longer making game systems. SNK, Coleco and especially Sega make very solid and dependable systems.

The TG-16 was a fun system. I spent hours playing Military Madness and R-Type. I never had the money for the TurboGrafxCD or the TurboDuo, but I know both had great games. I really wanted and still want a SuperGrafx. I can’t get my frau to buy off on the idea of paying over $300 to get an obsolete, 10-year-old system that only has 5 games. The only reason I was able to pull off the Neo Geo was because my wife really likes Ninja Combat and World Heroes 2.

Why the PT fans love the PT so much, not as diehard as we think
Time
Originally posted by: Tachikoma-Kun Some of the PT fandom is slightly disturbing, I agree. Giving Anakin a pass for everything he does. Or admireing the Emperor. I understand that when you are in love, you do stupid things but killing small children has to be something else. There has gotta be a line that when you cross it, it's no longer love. But some of the fans seem to find excuses for everything Anakin does and what's even more alarming, they are justifying his actions. Laying blame elsewhere. "It was the fault of the Jedi for not caring about Anakin or some such."

That touches on the root of the problem for me; Anakin is entitled to act like a shit because he’s the chosen one. Everyone owes him, nothing is his fault and he doesn’t need to take responsibility for any of what he does.

I don’t mean to sound like an old-timer, but I think a great deal of this is cultural. When I was a child I received a spanking when I did something wrong. Even if someone else had “tricked” me into doing it, even if my heart was in the right place, if I broke the rules I faced the music. There was always PERSONAL responsibility. Now everyone wants to be their kid’s buddy, they want to understand their child and there’s an excuse for every shitty thing their brat does. My wife is a Pre-K teacher and when she confronts parents about their children’s inappropriate behavior they defend their child with all the passion of Perry Mason. When I grew up you received a trophy when you did something that merited an award, but these days showing up is enough to merit an award.

This is now a world where one is rewarded for doing nothing, where no one takes responsibility and everyone has an excuse. No wonder they relate to Anakin; they are Anakin. Everyone owes them something for gracing the Earth with their presence. No one should give them a hard time about being an alcoholic because alcoholism is a disease and daddy never loved them. What changed in the last 20, 50, 100 or even 1000 years? Alcoholism has always been a disease and many people have been shafted with less than stellar parents. What changed is that we as a society now accept and in some instances encourage mediocrity. Why do your best when everyone from the star goalie to the bench-warmer gets a ribbon? Why should you step up and accept responsibility for killing children when you can blame it on chemicals and daddy’s mental abuse?

So now we’re back to Anakin. Sure he has a right to be mad at not being a Master because everyone else on the JC is a master. I got a ribbon just for showing up at a little league game so shouldn’t Anakin become a master for showing up at the JC? Sure Anakin did some bad things, but shouldn’t Obi-Wan act as a defense lawyer for him? My mom defended me and shielded me from discipline when I took crayon to the schoolhouse walls so shouldn’t Obi-Wan keep Mace from taking a tone with Anakin?

PT fans can’t help being PT fans just like many of us can’t help being OT fans. In both instances the films reflect the world of the fans on a fundamental level. In a nutshell:

OT Fan: Give me liberty or give me death.

PT Fan: Give me that it’s mine.

P.S. This is a “if the shoe fits wear it” post. There are many young people, such as my children, that still get spankings. There are also many young people that believe in standing up for what’s right even if that means personal loss. There are even young people that take personal responsibility. If you are one of those people this message (and the generalizations that go with it) doesn’t apply to you.

Yes I’ve done some of that as a parent and I know my wife has as well. A professional doesn’t let that impact their job. I don’t look at my co-workers and say, “LOOK CAT-5 CABLE.” In my last job (Army) shit like that would’ve expedited my exit from this mortal coil.

George should’ve maintained a degree of professionalism, remembered the tone of the first two movies and left the juvenile humor out of ROTJ and the PT. If he was going to take things down the juvenile path he certainly should’ve held ROTS to a PG rating. Jar Jar, when considered in light of the PG-13 rating of ROTS only serves as proof that George forgot how to write. The most fundamental rule of writing, or any art for that matter, is to remember your audience.

You know the stuff that is so universally lauded (or hated) that grandmothers in West Texas have seen it; Ninja Scroll, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, et al. There will always be a soft spot in my heart for the original Fist of the North Star. I know the animation is bad and the scale jumps around like crazy (one minute a dude is 10 feet tall and the next minute he’s 30 feet tall), but I love it. It can be downright enjoyable and almost surreal after a 4:20 session or about nine beers. Then again I guess everything is a little surreal after trees or too much beer.

I still enjoy Star Blazers. Leader Deslock was the first positive gay role model I can remember. At some point I want to see Yamato. I hear they use the “Gamelon” music when the Americans attack in the flashback scenes.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is also on my “to see” list.

Yes Zombie is on the right trail. It would be exactly like every other DVD release. One disk would have the classics remastered, but unaltered. You know George; the movies that won Oscars and launched careers? Those movies. The other disk would have the oxymoronic “evolving vision.” George could repackage and re-release the movies every three years updating the bullshit on the second disk and leaving the cultural icons untouched, warts and all.

It worked for Highlander and countless other films when they were moved to DVD. Why should Star Wars get lesser treatment?

There is also the fact that the Sanctuary was pretty much the only place on the boards where one could hint at the bias of the mods and get a sympathetic ear. When the mods got to the point that they were just using the BS to target people for banning I started to use my sock more frequently. My real account was perma-banned (despite the fact that it was supposed to be a one day ban) and so was my sock. When the bans weren’t lifted after a week I decided I was done with TFN. I just couldn’t take the hypocrisy or the teenage (no offense to any teens here) mods power-tripping. I can’t remember if it’s on one of the documentaries included with AOTC or perhaps TPM, but supposedly the animators had to convince George to do a CG Yoda. I think it was the TPM disk; they told George they could do a CG Yoda and he had them do a mock-up of it for the end of TPM, which he said was great. Based on the strength of that rendering George decided that Yoda could be CG for the rest of the PT.

I could probably believe that it was the animators’ idea if hadn’t seen George push for CG in everything else. I know it’s been said he tried to convince the effects people that worked on Gangs of New York to try and do the five corners in CG. I also heard that George tried to convince Jackson to go all CG with King Kong even after some miniatures had been completed. Then there’s the fact that it’s difficult to find a PT shot with no CG. All of that combines to make me wonder if George really needed any convincing to do a CG Yoda.

One of the reasons George said he was happy with the CG Yoda was because it allowed the “Sonic the Hedgehog” Yoda Lightsaber action at the end of AOTC and ROTS. It makes me wonder if there was no CG Yoda would we have also been spared the crazy Yoda duels. I sure wish I could’ve erased a few hard drives about 10 minutes before George “screened” the CG Yoda for the first time. Perhaps I could’ve had a real Yoda, a dignified Yoda (read non-dueling) and by extension a more dignified (again non-dueling) Palps.

yes, all of them are STONES. Even the pieces of Coal. Thats what you
call american way of life. Wonderful. I'll take the Diamonds and you
get the coal. And dont try to complain, they are all PIECES OF STONE!

That is what makes America great; there’s a place in this world for diamonds, coal and debris. If your people had remembered that then Germany would have ushered in the Atomic age instead of America. That’s why y’all lost the war. You chased off all the people with different ideas and we welcomed them.

America’s diversity is what makes us great. We might start with a German idea, but when we run out of good German ideas then we use an English idea or a French idea or an African idea or a Japanese idea or a Latin American idea or an Arab idea. We are never at a loss. When Germany runs out of German ideas what do they do? They conquer a neighbor and re-label their ideas as “German.” I suppose it’s better than the French way of doing things (destroy all evidence that there was a better idea or pretend that no idea is better than a French idea), but that isn’t saying much.

Well I tried to extend an olive branch, albeit in broken German, but I made the effort.

First and foremost the largest ethnic heritage in the United States is German. In my native Texas I can name at least a half dozen towns where German is the primary language. The point being that if someone is making fun of Americans they are making fun of themselves (in this case Germans) because we ARE all people.

By the way we have better uses for our women in the States than using them as a labor source. Drink your beer and watch your sports while your frau does the laundry if that’s what works best. I think I’ll fold the laundry myself while my frau blows me, but to each his own.

According to the BBC as of 2005 there were about 1.1 Billion members of the RCC:

Considering the growth rates of Catholic Populations in parts of Asia, South America and especially Africa 1.2 billion Catholics in June 2006 is probably pretty close to the mark. Add the Orthodox Church and the Protestant faiths and you reach the 2.1 Billion Christian mark real fast. Christians outnumber Muslims by almost two to one on this planet.

The Council of Trent was an Ecumenical Council of the RCC (the 19th if I remember correctly) and it addressed Biblical Canon among other things. To make a long story short there had been many members interested in elevating certain books (the RCC calls them deuterocanonical and Protestants call them apocrypha) to full canon status. There were a number of reasons for this; they provide scriptural support for Purgatory, Prayer for the Dead and they bridge the Old and New Testament. Many elements of the church were opposed to elevating these books to canon status for an equal number of reasons; they provide scriptural support for Purgatory, Prayer for the Dead and they infer that women are pretty much useless.

The Protestants began breaking away from the RCC in the early sixteenth century and much of the resistance to the deuterocanonical books left with them. Since those that opposed elevating the books were gone it was relatively simple for the remaining Church leaders to elevate those books to canon status. That is why a Catholic Bible has more books in the OT than a Protestant Bible.

Many modern Catholics claim that the deuterocanonical books were never really in debate and have always been apart of Biblical canon. So long as people have a passion for secular history they will see this for the lie that it is.

Some day SE OT fans and George may claim that the SE OT is the way Star Wars always has been, but so long as people have a passion for secular history they will see this for the lie that it is as well.
