Does anyone in the world actually care about the Avatar sequel? The opinions of everyone I know range from “huh?” To “meh.”

Fox essentially sold the sequels as a cinematic universe (something all the big studios are trying to do with their major properties these days) when they announced there were going to be four of them is instead of just three.

Cameron starts shooting them tomorrow, btw.

I can’t find anybody with any interest at all. Searching for such has actually become a hobby for me. Also finding somebody who can recall even one character name or quote a line of dialog from the first one. Avatar has been as forgotten as any other dumb summer blockbuster.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park in Florida opened an Avatar land this past summer.

From what I’ve read it’s quite popular. Whether that translates to ticket sales when the sequels come out is anyone’s guess.

I would love for it to bomb bad and Fox to lose a shit ton of money.

As I’ve said before, I remember the meal I had when seeing the movie better than anything in the movie. They were some good chicken strips.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

It could go either way. Avatar fans are all gonna be 10 years older and have probably moved on, 3D hype is long dead… but at the same time it will feel like something new to some audiences by the time all the other blockbuster franchises outstay their welcome.

But on topic the “it’s definitely going to be 2020” feels like wishful thinking at this stage.

I don’t even care about Avatar. It’s a movie I’m proud to say I haven’t seen and will never see.

I tried watching it when one of my college roommates bought the DVD and quit after the first disc. I remember being truly offended that a movie that cost half a billion dollars to make had such a lazy script.

So it’s a perfect encapsulation of the ethos of Hollywood?

Now I’m even prouder of myself.

If the glasses free tech Cameron wants is ready by the time the film comes out, that might be a game changer.

The only thing less cool than Avatar is proudly proclaiming you’ve never seen Avatar.

Who gives a shit.

What is this Avatar movie everyone’s talking about? James Cameron disappeared in the 90s never to be seen or heard from again.

Never seen Avatar (aside from some brief parts when it was playing at my grandmothers house some years ago and I barely remember that). Just doesn’t seem appealing to my tastes.

I don’t think Avatar is a terrible movie, it’s just so much money spent in the service of the creation of new technology for such an utterly pedestrian story.

South Park pretty much nailed the plotline before anyone saw it.

Avatar: I dont’t care about the movie. The TV show of the same name, though… I love it!
