Host extraordinare of "THE VFP Show"!Salt and pepper in a beard lends the wearer gravitas, even to a dime-store auteur like Lucas. Hence, my vote goes to Lucas.

Jedi KnightThe two are vastly different directors this is like comparing apples and oranges. But based on when they used to make good films my vote still goes to Lucas. Spielberg never directed a film that changed the culture like star wars. He probably is insanely jealous of that. He can keep his pretentious academy trophies.
Lucas was the movie king and beat Spielberg at his own game. Better ideas and better stories. Lucas a much more theatrical epic approach to things while also being very documentary style. You can tell Spielberg came out of tv directing on his early films they are so suburban in mentality.
I guess Spielberg makes films and Lucas makes movies. Movies are to entertain. Spielberg used to make movies until he wanted to be taken seriously as a director and then lost his ability to make the films he used to make. As important as a film as Shindler's List is it robbed the world of the types of films Spielberg used to make that were fun.
Lucas started to make videogames instead of films or movies. Except they lacked the audience being in control or interactivity and did not engage audiences at all except to assault the eyes with repeated and contrived computer generated imagery that cannot hide the lack of likeable characters, zero plot or story and sterile imagination and complete lack of everything that makes a movie work.

No no no. We're not comparing them as directors. We're comparing facial hair. Did you read the OP?
Wait a minute...are you saying the beards hold the secret to directorial skills? I'm intrigued. Please explain further!

See You, Space Cowboy...You see, with the beards, and the cameras, and the HOYVIN-GLAYVIN Frink. Totally elementary.

So THATS why there are so few great female directors.
And Lucas has the better beard.
btw SkyJedi ever heard of Jaws? There's a reason we watched that in Film Aesthetics and Analysis class and not Star Wars. Jaws was arguably more influential in shaping hollywood marketing practices, and the summer blockbuster

Tauntaun herder-Damn Fool Idealistic CrusaderAlthough ridiculous as a way of comparison, it is impossible to imagine either one without facial hair. They both have had beards for so long that it has become part of their image. DRAW.
Jaws and Star Wars were the two films that firmly established the blockbuster, changed marketing and the entire distribution system, and effectively demolished the New Hollywood Renaissance (1965-1977). So really you could go with either one, dependent on your preference. Jaws may be a big budget update of the fantastic Duel, but it's just too damn good to criticize!
Further reflection: Spielberg's beard is pedestrian, and just enough to reflect his thoughtful nostalgic tone. Lucas has the beard that represents moody probing thoughts. His THX and Star Wars beard is a masterpiece of this brooding, shy, and thought-provoking style. The later one works, but seems to be there. Nowadays it is really just laughable. Spielberg at least maintains his beard presence.

Ridiculous? I disagree. If there is one issue that should define OT.com (other than the continuing quest for the OOT), it is deciding which of these two is the better man. Sure, there has been plenty of debate as to who is the better director, but that is but one facet of a man's life. And until now, no one has dared to ask the really significant questions, such as who has the better beard.
So far Lucas seems to have the lead...

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.
