Hello, this is my first post. I’m only 18 so I wasn’t fortunate enough to see the originals in the theaters. The first time I saw star wars I don’t remember much. My mom put it on while I was building with LEGOs when I think I was 4 or 5, and I didn’t pay much attention to it. She also put on Empire Strikes Back after SW was over, but I didn’t pay much attention to that either since I was building with LEGOs. At that age I thought the scenes with Yoda were boring and I didn’t like the movies much. It wasn’t until I was 11 that I started to get interested into the movies. I have to admit that the hype of TPM is what got me interested in Star Wars.
I saw Star Wars on the WB with my full attention for the first time on May 21st 1999 when I was 11. I loved it. But it wasn’t until I was twelve on Jan.26th 2000 when I saw ESB and Feb. 5th 2000 when I Saw ROTJ. The reason why it took me gaps in time to see those was because I was looking for them on our collection of old Beta tapes downstairs. The condition of those tapes was terrible but they were the originals and I still love them. I have even become a little sentimental for the particular condition they are in. At the time, I thought all movies made back then looked as terrible as the aged beta tapes I was watching, but since then, I learned from this website that movies from that time playing in a theater actually looked even better than a Blue Ray transfer can provide.
Anyways, I followed this website consistently for awhile now and I have realized that this forum has become more of a gathering for people to find contradictory evidence of George Lucas’s quotes on his refusal to release the originals, respectively. Now that he is going to release them, but in an inferior non- anamorphic, not even from the negatives source: transfer, this might make it eligible for us to have a feasible chance at winning a lawsuit on Lucas' refusal, since he went back on his word. I am convinced that you people here have gathered more than enough evidence to put Lucas in jeopardy of losing a lawsuit for all his naive, stupid, contradictory reasons for not doing this. What do you think?
If I could sue George Lucas, I would sue him for the equal amount of money on all the profit he has made from SE DVDs, since they were false advertising and the OOT, since according to him, they don’t exist. I would also ask for him to hand over the real negatives of the OOT. That amount would probably be in the billion$! If I won I would split all the money with you people who are signed up on originaltrilogy.com, equally. That would mean we could all probably get 10s of thousands of dollars! I would give the negatives to a person who will give the films a respectable restore and transfer to DVD, probably to that guy who is offering to do this who restored Vertigo and Lawrence of Arabia. You see, unlike Lucasfilm, we are not interested in just money with this franchise. We love it and are willing to serve justice to SW even if we don’t make any money. (Ironic George Lucas has become the very thing the moral of his movies opposed.)
