Referring to the 1981 version always irks me because we all watched Star Wars on VHS for years without having any problems with that subtitle being in the crawl, but now it’s apparently a crime against cinema.

Technically any change without the original being available is a crime against cinema (though this is a relatively minor misdemeanor). Remember this is the site where people were complaining that they covered up Robert Patrick’s balls in Terminator 2.

I know what people complain about on this site, I just think that some of it is completely absurd.

Yes, I think the crawl complaint right now is absurd.

The Place to Go for Emotional Support

Notes on the usage of antisocial from the New Oxford American Dictionary:

usage: There is some overlap in the use of the adjectives unsociable, unsocial, and antisocial, but they also have distinct core meanings. Generally speaking, unsociable means ‘not enjoying, or avoiding, the company of others’: Terry was grumpy and unsociable. Antisocial can be used as a synonym for unsociable, but can further be used to mean ‘contrary to the laws and customs of a society’: aggressive and antisocial behavior. Unsocial can be used as a synonym for unsociable as well, but it may also denote a preference for solitude and not hostility toward company: Ben’s feeling a little tired and unsocial tonight.

Perhaps unsociable is a better word for describing mfm’s behavior.

Look, there’s no doubt about it, TV’s Frink is one of my favorite posters here. He’s funny and witty and has a good heart.

There’s also no doubt about it that TV’s Frink can be a sarcastic, condescending jerk.

I say both of these comments as a friend. Were you, TV’s Frink, the one making all these sighs, I would probably get irritated at your juvenile behavior. Instead, who I see making these sighs, asking questions that could easily be googled, and thinking very concretely about concepts is Warbler.

Again, I say this as a friend, but Warbler struggles with abstract thinking and creates circular arguments. I can’t help but feel like there is something there that requires an extra level of patience. So I grant him extra patience and don’t engage in conversation the same way I would engage with you, Frink. I expect different understanding and don’t use sarcastic humor as much. I explain things more literally and end things when I feel it is unproductive.

There is a lot of latitude granted to you because of the joys you bring to this forum. Don’t condemn his behavior when your own record isn’t perfect. You both have your quirks and your great qualities. I appreciate you both for who you are, but I also expect different things from you because of who you are.

Wise, this one is.

Warbler is a very persistent guy. I think I am too, but not to the level that he is. He’s also a very literal guy. Frink, and to a certain extent, dahmage, are very sarcastic and satirical people. These are two very different personalities, and therefore, they can clash at times. I’m not sure how I fit into this whole spectrum — some days I feel more like a Warbler; somedays, a Frink.

Warbler can also have a tendency to over-do things at times. It can feel like, at certain times, a sort of obsessive–compulsive tendency. Warbler also, very often, doesn’t get the joke well. This can lead him to get frustrated at times when he isn’t getting the responses he expects.

All of this conspired to create a perfect storm of sorts. Warbler may have well-been completely unaware of just how many *sigh*s he was doing, but alas, other people noticed. Frink may have been in an especially irritable mood, and then the conflict started.

So apparently the JFK files are a thing but not really a thing?

http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/27/politics/trump-jfk-documents-analysis/index.html

I am stunned 😉

There are some interesting things to come out of the release so far - like the British journalist receiving a heads-up ‘for some big news’ 25 minutes before the assassination occurred:-

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/oct/27/jfk-files-british-paper-got-anonymous-call-just-before-assassination

yet still not the… erm… smoking gun…

Apparently this was already reported on back in 2013.

http://www.hertfordshiremercury.co.uk/jfk-50-years-did-soviet-agent-tip-local-paper-john-f-kennedy-going-shot-riddle-phone-message-25-minutes-president-assassinated/story-22005346-detail/story.html

Anyway, the JFK files are more interesting than I thought they would be, but not as interesting as all the conspiracy theories promised.
