Well I wasn’t fooled by fake Luke not even for a second, but didn’t know how he was doing what he was doing until revealed. Not only the footprints, but the haircut, hair color and lightsaber totally gave it away for me. That took tension away, which made it all a bit disappointing.

What tension? That he wouldn’t die? Wouldn’t the tension of that be cut anyway when the walkers don’t leave a scratch?

Not to mention, of course, that he does die.

Presumably tension would remain in the showdown with Kylo.

But I imagine most people were fooled, as I was, although confused about Luke’s different look.

I wasn’t fooled at all, but I was on the edge of my seat wondering what is Luke doing? and what is going to happen?.

The movie isn’t trying to fool anyone. All the evidence that something is up with Luke is on the screen. You either notice it or not. All I caught on to first time was the hair color.

Yep, I caught that too.

I didn’t even realize Luke wasn’t there until we saw him on Ach-To in my first viewing. You’re able to be fooled by that scene because you’re invested in his character in that moment. Very nicely done.

I guess. I’d agree completely if they hadn’t cheated with the dice.

Cheating? Force projection is a totally new thing. We don’t know what the rules are yet. Can’t really call it cheating.

Well I wasn’t fooled by fake Luke not even for a second, but didn’t know how he was doing what he was doing until revealed.

What was he doing again? Was it stalling the First Order so that the 5% of the rebels who Poe hadn’t already gotten killed could sneak out the back even though Luke had no way of knowing that there was a way out the back, and in fact there wasn’t until Rey conveniently created one with the force when she just happened to show up in Falcon which was doubly fortunate since without the Falcon they’d all just be standing around out back waiting to be found an executed?

This was Luke’s plan? Buy the rebels 5 more minutes in hopes that the salvation that’s eluded them the whole movie will show up (now that most them are dead anyway), and of course it does because movie.

Collipso was referring to Luke doing his Force projection, but to answer your complaints, of course coincidental and unlikely things happen in movies. Otherwise it wouldn’t be interesting. All of what you mentioned is totally believeable. It wasn’t a coincidince that Rey showed up where they were. They were searching for lifeforms on the Falcon. Rey didn’t magically create an opening; the opening was already there, she just cleared the rcks from it. And what’s the problem with them having the Falcon? That’s like saying that Luke is so lucky that he had his lightsaber in Empire or else he would be totaly defenseless against Vader. Your complaints make no sense.

One can easily buy the original broadcast version TNG episodes though.

And let’s be real, upscaled shots of the original VFX alongside new HD scans of non-effects shots would look like complete garbage.

So a 4K upscale of AOTC would look like garbage?

Well yeah but it’s AOTC so that’s a given.

AotC is the best Star Wars movie to date since 1999, so stop disrespecting it.

Sounds reasonable.

He’s not being serious.

Other bits on Trump’s health.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trumps-health-excellent-doctor-weight-loss-goal/story?id=52387633

Jackson shared the outcomes of Trump’s exam with reporters at the White House press briefing, including his 75-inch height, 239-pound weight, total cholesterol of 223 and resting heart rate of 68 beats per minute.

Given his height and weight, the president’s body mass index falls just short of the defined threshold for obesity. According to a calculator provided by the National Institutes of Health’s National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, Trump’s BMI is 29.9. The marker for obesity is a BMI of 30, according to the institute.

Despite the number, Jackson said that Trump’s exercise stress echocardiogram was “above average based on age and sex,” but they did discuss "diet, exercise and weight loss.

“I think a reasonable goal over the next year or so would be [for Trump] to lose 10 to 15 pounds,” Jackson said. “We talked about diet and exercise a lot. He is more enthusiastic about the diet part than the exercise part but we’re going to do both.”

Questioned by the press for nearly an hour, Jackson additionally shared that the president takes aspirin for “cardiac health;” Propecia, a medication intended to prevent hair loss; Soolantra Cream, to combat the skin disease Rosacea; and Crestor, a cholesterol-lowering drug. Trump’s total cholesterol of 223 would be considered high under typical standards.

Jackson did admit that he thinks Trump “doesn’t sleep much.” The doctor said that he did not ask the president about his habits specifically, but guessed that he sleeps “four to five hours per night.”

Huh.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-did-exceedingly-well-on-a-cognitive-test-top-white-house-doctor-says/2018/01/16/e8af8b8a-fadb-11e7-a46b-a3614530bd87_story.html?utm_term=.9e833aecd33f

President Trump requested that his first formal medical exam include a cognitive test and “did exceedingly well,” receiving a score of 30 out of 30, the top White House doctor announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Navy Rear Adm. Ronny L. Jackson, who has been the lead White House doctor since 2013, said that he has interacted with the president several times a day for the past year and saw no need for a cognitive test. Jackson said that the president is “very sharp” in their conversations and does not repeat himself. He added that he has seen no evidence of any cognitive problems.

At the president’s request, Jackson said that he reviewed a number of cognitive tests and then administered the Montreal Cognitive Assessment during Trump’s first presidential physical exam on Friday afternoon at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The 10-minute exam is designed to detect mild cognitive impairment, generally in older patients. Trump answered all 30 questions correctly, Jackson said.

So tell me something, just who was Luke’s equal in the dark side in the OT? As one rises in one side of the force, another rises on the opposite side, right? It couldn’t have been Vader, he rose to power a lot early in the PT and he didn’t get more powerful as Luke got more powerful. Also if that idea is true, there should have been a lot more dark jedis around during the PT, one for every jedi.

not really. I understood that line to have more to do with their being no existing light side users for the force to balance against, so it all manifested in one place. If Luke wasn’t cut off from the force, i think things would have been different.

that is not how I read it all.

Also, its all made up stuff anyway.

I’m sorry, but there is no reason to say this.

  1. we all know that

  2. that could excuse any continuity error/plot hole in any fiction.

  3. it being true, doesn’t mean the fiction universe shouldn’t make sense.

  4. its lame to say it

I agree with this. If it’s “all made up stuff anyway,” then why should we discuss it? There’s no reason to discuss the details of any fiction if you accept that excuse.
