The Academy Awards considers them short films.
I don’t think that matters in the scope of this discussion.

I’ve seen it. All 7 minutes. It’s not a movie.
Let’s see…
New Oxford American Dictionary said:
movie |ˈmo͞ovē|
noun chiefly N. Amer.
a story or event recorded by a camera as a set of moving images and shown in a theater or on television; a motion picture.
- Story or event recorded by a camera? Check.

- Shown in a theater or on television? Check.
So each episode of the O’Reilly Factor is a movie?

Bad Album Artwork Hall of Fame
What’s so bad about Every Picture Tells a Story?
I think that one looks fine, but it looks too tacky for my tastes.
Jefferson Airplane is also great.
That’s the one that I really don’t like the look of.

So all television shows are movies? All cartoons are movies? All commercials are movies?
A seven minute cartoon movie exists the same way a good anime does…not at all.
Yes, technically, in the same way that you could say that a hot dog is a sandwich.

I took a nap today, ended up having a most memorable dream.
It began with me hanging out with my son. He was about three or four, and looked like Robert Sean Leonard. I was feeling very happy, joyful 'cause I was married; though she didn’t make an appearance in the dream, I knew right away who my wife was.
Then the dream got weird. A witch showed up, threatening to harm my son. At that point I transformed into Ash from the Evil Dead series, picked up an old musket with a bayonet attached at the end, and stabbed the witch through the eye and out the back of her head, pinning her to the wall behind her. That’s when a second Ash showed up and began dismembering her with a chainsaw.
The dream then realigned, and I found myself a teenager back in high school. As I got off the bus at school, there was this incredibly hot girl standing there on the sidewalk. She was brunette (or was she blonde?), muscular (lean, though, not beefed up like a bodybuilder), and she was wearing jean cutoffs and a small tank top. I sat down with her on the sidewalk, began feeling her up, and was getting ready to have sex right then and there with her in public when my psychological V-chip engaged and the dream came to an abrupt close.
Cool.

I could tell you there is good anime if it will make you feel better. I’d be lying to you, but I’d consider it if you think it would be for the best.
I think we’ve run our course now.

A Summary of My Thoughts
- I have not watched many anime. Most of anime is just not appealing to me
- However, I do not doubt that there is good anime out there
- It is unacceptable to categorize an entire genre as universally bad
- Some of the jokes made by some people in this conversation do not help either. It just makes you unnecessarily absolute positions just seem like jokes. Repeating these jokes time and time again just make people irritated and adds no substance to your argument. It also sends a message that your argument is so weak you can’t defend with an actual orderly discussion.

It does because everyone here who thinks anime is good is up to their armpits in denial, just like Luke.
They know it to be true, but they can’t accept it.
I haven’t watched that much anime.
I just can’t stand up for how people just dismiss a genre in such a way.
It seems like you are joking.

It is unfair and bigoted to categorize an entire genre of entertainment as totally bad.
Yeah, but it actually is.
That is an unverifiable statement.
It’s objectively true.
No.
And yet it was true.
That image has no bearing on this conversation.

Man, everyone here is so defensive of their animes. Most of my friends watch plenty of anime but when I make fun of it (or them for watching it), they all laugh.
I’m just tired of the two people on this forum who care that some people enjoy Japanese media; they care so much that they have to bring up the fact that they don’t like it all the time. They also insinuate that viewers of such media are inherently immature.
I don’t care if you like immature trash. It’s your life you’re wasting, not mine.
Oh you like Star Wars?
A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
The Force Awakens
Star Wars Holiday Special
Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure
Ewoks: The Battle for Endor
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Star Wars: Droids
Star Wars: Ewoks
Star Wars: Clone Wars
Star Wars Rebels
Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles
Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales
Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures
Lego Star Wars: Revenge of the Brick
Lego Star Wars: The Quest for R2-D2
Lego Star Wars: Bombad Bounty
Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace
Lego Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out
Plus All Star Wars books, games, and comic booksI don’t care if you like immature trash. It’s your life you’re wasting, not mine.
The cognitive dissonance must be deafening.
Lol what?
Who said I like everything Star Wars?
Who said I like everything Anime?
The point is that a large percentage of any medium is crap, regardless of what it is. Words like ‘immature’ and ‘trash’ can as easily be applied to the great majority of Star Wars properties as it can be to Anime movies and shows.
The difference is that those words should be applied to every single anime movie and show, rather than “the great majority.”
Stop being like that.

IIRC, U.S. school schedules initially developed to revolve around the needs of agriculture, when a lot of kids had to help out on the family farm in the summer months.
We have had year round schedules in California since the 90’s. Not sure about the rest of the country.
Is that everywhere in California?

I seriously don’t get American schooling. As far as I can tell, they start a year of school in September of one year, then finish that year in June of the next year. Why not do what we do in Australia and have school start in February and finish in December, with two week holidays sprinkled in over the year, and a six week break in between school years?
In some places the schedule is pushed up a bit. You may have schools where the year starts in early August and ends in mid to late May.
