There are reasons why Microsoft has been racing to make its core products, like .NET and SQL Server, cross-platform, while adding bash and other Unix-y things to their own stack. If you’d suggested MS would be porting SQL Server to run on Linux even 5 years ago, you would’ve been laughed out of the room.

At my company, you only get Windows hardware if you request it, and then all your team members hate you because getting everything up and running on your machine is a chore.

Don’t get me wrong. Windows 10 is a good OS and I use it on my gaming rig, because as great as Macs are, they’re still pointless for real gaming. But I still think the best Windows laptop is a MacBook Pro running Bootcamp 😉

My new favorite editor is VS Code, btw.

While Microsoft was lagging behind to get emoji support in the first place, I think they’re getting ahead of the curve with support now.

And this is one of my main problems with Windows: Almost nothing is standardized. Every app has their own implementation of things, which may or may not work with emoji. Emoji are almost (Looking at you, Chrome) universally supported in every app on the Mac, which I like.

I do think there’s such a thing has emoji over use.

I’ve never seen a tasteful use of Emoji, it’s always a bunch of spammed crying laughing faces and 100s and fucking “ok” hand signs.

I also hate how Emojis look compared to Emoticons. When put in a line of text, they stand out really strangely with all the colors and shit.

Funny, because most of the emoji use I’ve seen have been I good taste. The only one that seems bad to me is Carrie Fisher’s Twitter account, where I can’t understand anything that she says.

I mostly don’t find color to be a problem for me, though that’s a more reasonable concern.
