*** Alien Makers I & II *** (Released)
Time

I’m not idea where to post this! So appologies if in the wrong section!

As promiced I’ve upload the first Alien Makers to RS:

Cover by Ash595

These Documentaries were filmed and made by Dennis Lowe. Dennis was a SFX Assist (Model Camera) on Alien 1979 and also worked on SW - Empire Strikes back, Legend and many other great films. One of his many hobbies is making documentaries and recently Dennis interviewed other people who also worked on Alien to share their memories and experiences and working with Ridley Scott and on Alien in general.

There are not studio documentaries and have not been aired on TV etc. These were made by Dennis himself with his own equipment and are non profit films. Dennis has kindley let me (and others) upload these great documentaries to RS and other hosting services. These are free and for the public, i just wnated to clear that up in case anyone was wondering.

These are available in PAL and NTSC, only problem is i only have the PAL verisons, i’m working on getting the NTSC ones uploaded.

The Special Edition wasn't needed.
Time

When a small child i watched the Star Wars movies to death (then i discovered the Alien movies aged 9) even as a small child Star Wars had an impact on me and the magic of it made my imagineation run wild.  Even though i'm an Alien Trilogy fan Star Wars was always there with me, right untill 1997.  The Special editions ruined the Star Wars experience i knew and loved from a small child, the magic was gone, the scenes that gave me goosebumps had gone and the ovberall impact of the films had just died.  Since that day i completely lost all love for the Star Wars movies, lol, to put it in a weird example it was like being told Santa Clause didn't excist.  All i had after that was the memories of watching the originals was a child.  I for years i pushed aside Star Wars (thanks george) which wa pushed even further when the dreaded prequels arrived.  I can never express how angry i am at George if i'm honest, (same with fox for the AVP moves!!!!!)...it wasn't untill i watched Deleted Magic, Building an Empire and Returning to Jedi that my love for the Originals began to rekindle.  I know many people who became distant from the Star Wars films thanks to the Special editions, some love them many hate them.  But even though they are here to stay *pukes* places like this keep the spirit of the originals alive.  The special editions were not needed at all, only thing that was needed was the negative restoration IMO.

Alien Appendix #5+6: The ALIEN SAGA Archive (Released)

Yeah! i'd like to see a smaple if you do make one, i've only seen one extremely small clip of the Alien 8mm reel.  It's something i've been meaning to get my hands on but everytime i try i either get outbid or money becomes an issue.  A friend of mine was suppose to recieve one from a fmaily member from the states so we contact a few companies who transfer 8mm to DVD, each onewere reluctant to do it as they were affraid of copywrite infringements.

something with birth or labor in the title could be interesting : Birth of Alien, Alien Labor ?

Yes, something with birth or..

Alien : Origin of the Species

Fans have used that one for possible Prequel titles, but non the less your both giving me ideas, one other title a friend sugested based on your ideas was Alien: Death and Rebirth...i'll keep toying, many thanks guys!

Oh before i forget if any of you has not had the chance to read Terrys Rawlimgs original editing script heres the link:

http://www.alienexperience.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=166

Dennia lowe interviewd him for Alien Makers II which showed Terry with his script.  Dennis god bless him asked if we could see it and Terry let Dennis scan the entire things for fans to read and study, hope you ejoy!

re you talking about this LD release that had a Dolby Digital audio track?

If it really was remastered from the 70mm audio, it's quite possible that the surround (rear) channel is mono - this was the configuration for 70mm 6-track sound around that time (left, centre, right, surround, LFE left, LFE right).

Dolby Digital tracks can only have one LFE channel, so the audio would be actually be 4.1 (or maybe 5.1 with "dual mono" surrounds).

Anyway, I don't have the laserdisc, nor the facility to capture Dolby Digital streams off LD. But this sounds like an interesting bit of history to explore.

I've just PM'ed the gentleman who sent the original PM about which LD release he was talking about, waiting for reply.

I am on for designing the cover if you want.

Thta would be great! Only problem is i still haven't found a title for Alien yet,  Deleetd Magic, Building an Empire and Returning to Jedi were great titles...can't can't think of one thats good for this :(

***UPDATE***

Just going through the Quadrilogy special features for outtake, alternate shots etc...most behind the scenes footage i've collected.  Just saved all nessasary story boards and Ridley grams.  Still skint from xmas so waiting on getting an original copy of the 2 disc complete soundtrack for the inside booklet, plus i want this CD anyways (only have this one on MP3).  Should be getting started soon.

Sounds interesting there 8t88 ;)

I got a PM on another site with the following about the Alien Laser disc mono track:

This disc has only mono surround on the Dolby Digital track. The picture and the Dolby Digital soundtrack was mastered from the 70 mm release version. The soundtrack contains therefore some alternate dialogue, rough sound editing, different/enhanced sound effects, and is missing some dialogue which was contained on the Dolby Stereo sound mix of the 35 mm version.

I've not watched the Alien Laserdisc since 1994 (i think) Does anyone know if this is accurate? Does anyone have the mono track from the Alien laserdisc at all?

Thanks Jono, the Planet of the Apes 'demo' sounds interesting indeed and i'm going to look into that. Now for the really dumb a** question, which planet of the apes move are you refering to? the original or remake? I don't have the 2-disc release on CD, only as an mp3 album (from another project) but it's definatly something i want and not just for this project. Thanks for the sugestions guys!

Sounds interesting their TB :) thats given me an idea sor a sort of audio and visual scrap book for the original starbeat draft, if it's possible.  A shortish summary with concept designs and trivia...

...i've just extracted the original production & original proposed filmed score audio tracks from the Alien Legacy DVD.  Thought i might show some of the unused, extra & Alternate dialogue in places and a few original scores if possible.  I'm attempting this with sony vegas also.  The only thing i won't be using in this documentary is Terry Rawlings original editing script, what i mean is i want be inserting images of the pages etc as i haven't asked for permisson.  He was kind enough to let Dennis Lowe scan it for us fans.

Wow thanks for the offer!  I don't know where to start to be honest as i'm new to fanediting and never attempted anyhitng like this before! I have a few magazine and book sources to get trivia etc, etc...even have Terry Rawlings original Editing script for filmed and unfilmed scenes etc.  Will take me a while, Dennis Lowe himself has allowd me to use some of his pictures for the yellow Nostromo...many thanks Dennis.

Alien has deleted scenes restored featured on the Quad boxset so thats not an issue, extra scenes also featured on the Alien Legacy set.  I can use these with some behind the scenes photos and footage if needed etc. Some sequences there were filmed but never used or seen on any special features don't have any photos or screen shots i'll just have to mention them via text or something, some are storyboarded others aren't.

As for commentary segments i have a few audio parts mainly from Ridley Scott and Sigourney Weaver...i want to try and use audio sources other than the Quadrilogy so might look into the Alien Saga & Legacy documentaries.

If anyone has any sugestions or ideas i'm all ears!  I'll defo need some help with this.  Still gathering footage at the moment.

David Lynch's - DUNE - The Third Stage Edition (Released)
Time

Dune is my second favorate film of all time.  It's an absolute classic an di rate it the same as both the Alien and Original Star Wars Trilogy.  I wasn't overly impressed with the TV/Alan Smithee version even if it does contain extrra footage.  The first Dune edit i got was ADM's reconstructed Workprint which i also love and then someone told me about the third stage edition so naturally i had to check it out.  This edit is most impressive!!! i absolutley love it, in fact i'm watching it as i type this reply.  An outstanding job has been done to this version and ever since i got it i always recommend it to any dune fan i come accross.  ADM's and the 3rd Stage Edition are the definitive and only extended versions of dune i now watch, i do watch the theatrical cut now and then.  All i can say again is many many thanks for such a wonderful edit.
