Proposed project: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV show)
Time
Sorry about that... I uploaded the torrent prematurely, and then wasn't able to seed it due to my flying across the globe... so sorry! And I'm afraid I'm going to have to reupload the torrent files, for various reasons. The old torrents aren't going to work.

Check the 'noid and the 'bay for updated torrents shortly.

By the way, I've got to say this: I did this while I was visiting my family in Malaysia, and I didn't have my R1 Buffy DVDs with me, as they're in my dorm room in New York... so I had to make do with a *ahem* shady copy that was packaged very similarly to the official R1, and I assumed that the DVD content was the same, but having just checked the actual R1 DVDs, I realized that they are encoded with 3:2 pulldown (while the source I used was interlaced NTSC), and the audio is 2.0 (but somehow the source I used had 6 discrete channels -- and it doesn't seem like it's merely a simple upmix, so I'm not sure how the 5.1 soundtrack came about)...

But anyway, I'll definitely use the official R1 DVDs for the other six movies, unless some kind soul wants to give/lend me the widescreen R2 DVDs...

Proposed project: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV show)

I hope to release this within a week. Final runtime is 218 minutes... still a little shorter than the extended TTT. I used footage from every episode in the season except #7 (the musical episode... very regretfully) and #14 (Older and Faraway).

I can either release it as one double layer disc or two single layer discs... I think I'll do the former, and anyone who wants to split it up can do it on their own prerogative.

At the moment, my plan is to make an eight disc set... one movie per season, and an additional one comprising all the flashbacks (Angel & Darla, Spike & Dru, etc.) and other goodies that didn't make the actual movies. When the whole thing's done, I'll design a cover for an eight-disc case, but for now, someone else has graciously offered to design individual covers (and any other offers are welcome too).

I'm going to work on it sporadically, so it will probably be a long time before the set is finished, but that's the plan.

The "EditDroid" Trilogy DVD Info and Feedback Thread (Released)

I know exactly what you mean, Sluggo... I've sent stuff to people who never kept their end of the bargain. (And I might have promised people discs that I forgot about and never sent... if that happened to you, please e-mail me or drop a line in a thread I've written in to remind me.)

Please put me on your list, Erikstormtrooper. I live in NY. If the discs are single layer, I have no problem sending them out to three people in the US who will do the same.

Okay... I finally gave this a shot. For various reasons, I decided to tackle Season Six first.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

I have a working draft that's about 3 hrs 40 min long... I'll try to trim it down by a couple more minutes but I think it's found about the right length. The only "tampering" that I did with the footage is near the end (Episode 21) -- I left out the Rack character entirely (I felt that Tara leaving Willow was incentive enough for her to stop using magic), so the only way I could think of getting her into the Magic Box was to create my own teleporting effect, with lightning that ends up hitting Dawn, which explains why she collapses. I've uploaded an XviD clip showing that effect at http://rapidshare.com/files/12283107/Willow.avi.

I titled the movie "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Back from the Grave". Feel free to suggest anything better.

The Phantom of the Opera Resynched (Released)

That would be hilarious! You'll notice that I "cheated" at that point, "synching" his mouth movements to completely different words.

I haven't given up on redoing this -- I just haven't had time to. Hope I'll be able to get around to doing it soon.

Yes, a lot of work went into it — but alas, like I mentioned earlier, I worked from an XviD source thinking that all I wanted to do was prove to myself that it could be done, and that no one else would ever take a serious interest in such an edit (that's before I discovered that there was a whole community devoted to fan edits). As I've said earlier, I do plan to redo this project with the original DVD source, to get the highest quality possible and also fix the things I didn't like about my first version — but I really have no time now, so that will have to wait.

There were some things in the movie that I liked more than the stage version, though — Christine's transformation in "Think of Me", for example, with the camera whirling around her and the jewels appearing in her hair, was done perfectly. That same moment in the stage version (at least in the Broadway production, which is the only one I've seen) was really weak and anti-climactic, IMHO.

Oct 24: Lunchtime Piano Recital at Bard College
Time
Hi guys,

I don't expect this will get a lot of interest on this forum, but I'll say it anyway...

On Tuesday, October 24, I'll be giving a small lunchtime piano recital at Bard College (where I go to school) at noon. I will be playing Bach's Chaconne in D minor (arranged for solo piano by Busoni) and Liszt's Sonata in B minor. That should total about 45 minutes. (Sorry to disappoint, but I won't be playing any music from Star Wars, though I have been known to burst into improvisations on the Imperial March or the Cantina Band tunes on occasion while I'm noodling around on the piano.) The audience is invited to bring their lunch into the venue (provided, of course, they eat quietly and respectfully). If you happen to be in the Dutchess County area on that day and are free at noon, or would otherwise be having lunch somewhere near Bard, do swing by. The recital will be in Bard Hall (the performance space behind the chapel).

Just for kicks, I made a humorous Lord of the Rings-themed poster for the concert, which you might find amusing:

Hope to see some of you there,
Ming.

Info Wanted: Anyone Planning on making Anamorphic versions using 2006 OUT DVDs?
Time
The ripping process shouldn't take too long. It usually takes about half an hour for me to rip a whole DVD-9, and it shouldn't take that long if you're just demuxing an AC3 track. It's the MPEG encoding process that takes forever (especially if you use the highest quality settings) and is a pain to have to do all over again...
