*************Spoilers for Babylon Fields*****************

If you watch it, it will. Basically small town, all the dead rise and return to their lives. Husbands go back to wifes, children return to school, etc. The main conflict revolves around a murder/cover up which would have slowly unraveled. But then you'd also have other issues like where do you put all the people from the cemetary (in various states of decay) which would have provided other plot lines to follow through. Close to "Brilliant But Canceled" territory.

Alright, watched it. My oppinion noi, meh. You are right the premise is good. Could make an excellent series. It's just that everything's solved in the pilot aside from "why are there zombies here?" That murder is already blantently solved, they showed how people react to various loved ones coming back, and they managed to show a store keeper defending himself against a zombie. All in the damn pilot. I mean geeze leaves nothing much to look forward to in future episodes. It's like making a "Lord of the Rings" tv pilot with a big climax being the ring falling back into the fiery chasm from whence it came and, expecting a series ok after that.

Plus the creators seem to be anti-women given the chosen backbone story. Essentially abused women get courage to kill their abuser. Abuser comes back to life and, gets to further torment them. Also, woman who becomes a necrophiliac and, jumps to have sex with her zombie used to be husband. The only woman cop just hides in the police station and, is told to leave the room for Zombie guy & cop guy to speak.

Finally by taking away the zombie weakness of decay and, shot in head = really dead. Any immergent resistant movement is kind of pointless. Oh yeah show already showed how usefull a resistance movement is.

All in all, still glad CBS passed on it. It's not the complete trainwreck I thought it was gonna be but, it doesn't make me want another episode. The story is essentialy told. There are a few minor loose ends but, loose ends happen with any series. It basically doesn't need another episode. It's like a movie that's okay as is.

(Yes I realize "now" is misspelled "noi" I left it for the luls)

"Babylon Fields" 2007 CBS failed zombie necrophilia pilot:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3315295143249630002#

Babylon Fields was a proposed television series that featured reanimated zombies as characters. Rather than being portrayed as malevolent monsters, however, the recently deceased return to their homes and attempt to pick up their lives. The pilot had elements of black comedy as well as drama.

Great premise, could have been great.

(haven't watched vid yet may get to it later. As such my oppinion may change.)
So,... the main character zombies would all groan dialogue like the wookies in the Holiday Special??? DO NOT WANT!!!! DO NOT WANT!!!! THANK YOU CBS!!!!!

Having the Jedi suddenly admit that their powers come from a bacterial infection (something not seen or even alluded to in OT) not only chucks a wrecking ball at the existing story but cuts off the story potential in the prequels.

I'm gonna ignore the midichlorians defense becuase your just speaking hypothetically how it could have worked. You admit yourself it doesn't work as presented so it's a moot point. We agree.

Bingowings said:He also doesn't bat an eye to Gaeta's relationship with a man as he grew up with an uncle who was married to a man.

Irrelevant I didn't even bring it up.

Bingowings said:
BTW there is nothing inconsistent with Billy Adams, Husker and William Adama.

William Adama's opening speech in the mini series shows a man who acknowledges humanity is to blame for the Cylons, mocks the Cylon belief that a God gave them license to destroy humanity, is troubled by humans taking on a pro-Cylon faith and has seriously conflicted memories of his father. Unlike his son, his reaction to the emergence of a black market in the fleet is pragmatic rather than moral and it's very understandable that he doesn't mention his family ties to the Tauron mob. He also doesn't bat an eye to Gaeta's relationship with a man as he grew up with an uncle who was married to a man.

The only place I can think he might have mentioned his mother and sister's death would have been in relationship to Tom Zarek back in season one (obviously Caprica hadn't been written yet) but he is sufficiently damning of Zarek at that point in the story.

Most of the time they are more concerned with Cylon threats and Cylon violence so mentioning his human slaughtered family members when most of the time they are running from or fighting machines wouldn't make sense.

Basing an AI around an organically evolved consciousness makes a lot of sense.

It explains the sort of creatures they are later shown to be (more human than human).

A purely mechanical consciousness would have rebelled in a more mechanical way.

If anything Caprica was beginning to prove itself as template bucking the trend in terms of story consistency (you can argue about the pacing and tone not being what viewers and some nuBSG fans wanted to see but the story doesn't conflict with what we have seen in the same way that the PT does).

So if another world war broke out tomorrow you'd understand if everyone just forgot the muslim religion ever existed mere 40 years later and, 9/11? To everyone in BSG Cylons, Angels, and Baltar aside the idea of one God seems to be some new fangled thing Baltar's starting. Essentially a multi-planet religion is completely mentionless in BSG. NO ONE said anything akin to "wow, this is just like the STO! I remember reading about this in school." Tell me one scene in BSG that even implies the STO and, I'll admit I was wrong. Mind you, you can't use extended episodes or, deleted scenes. Just what was broadcast counts.

CAPRICA: The Resurrection!

In terms of story some people will not have liked Caprica in the same way that some people didn't like the direction that nuBSG went after season...(fill in blank) but the way SyFy showed it and promoted it there wasn't a chance for it to take off with the sort of people who would have liked it.

I keep reading reports of people who didn't even know the show existed until it was announced that it was being canceled or only found out about it when it came back for a couple of episodes last month.

I tire of reading how Caprica was "poorely marketed". The beggining was marketed fine. They had ads all over for it and, Syfy didn't exactly ignore marketing the show. The second half got better marketing this season of Chuck got. Syfy promo department did their jobs well. About people only finding out about it after it's cancelled well that can happen to any show. I didn't find out about Defying Gravity 'till it's cancellation news hit. I didn't even know Firefly existed at all for years 'till I saw it being mentioned over and, over on message boards. Honestly if the people who like these shows so much during their run talk about them as much as they do once cancellation hits prior to that. They'd beat any marketing campaign a studio could pay for. (Watch CHUCK Mondays on NBC! Check your local listings. It's not on this week but, next week it'll be back!!! Check it out!!!!!!)

That said. Nielsen ratings suck. Taking 25,000 peoples views to account for everyone is a horrible system. They just found 25,000 Dancing with the Stars fans is all.

I was miffed when Crusade was canceled but that had been interfered with by sex and wrestling loving TNT so much that it hardly made sense sometimes.

Crusade can make sense albeit with a few continuity glitches in the following order.
-A Call To Arms Babylon 5 telemovie
-War Zone
-Ruling from the Tomb
-The Long Road
-The Well of Forever
-The Path of Sorrows
-Appearances and, Other Deciets
-Racing the Night
-The Needs of Earth
-The Memory of War
-Visitors from Down the Street
-Each Night I Dream of Home
-Patterns of Soul
-Rules of the Game

--------
I will say this though.
Babylon 5 was shot much darker then the series proper. It's pilot aired a full year prior to the first regular episode.
Battlestar Galactica was shot on 35mm film and, brighter for the mini-series. Mini-series aired a year prior to the first regular episode.
B5 was told in it's fourth year that the end was near. Only to be renewed by a last minute save by TNT. So season 5 and, a few telemovies were produced.
BSG had a few telemovies produced during it's run. Was told during season 4 that it's the end. Dispite Ron Moore wanting a season 5.
Crusade was a spin-off series from Babylon 5 intending to be a different type of story told within the Babylon 5 universe. Titled just "Crusade" instead of "B5: Crusade". Producing another pilot telemovie longer then a standard episode. Lasting only one season becuase, the network wants to focus more on wrestling and, Law & Order.
Caprica was a spin-off series from BSG intending to be a different type of story told within the BSG universe. Titled just "Caprica" instead of "BSG: The story of Caprica". Producing another pilot longer then a standard episode. Lasting only one season becuase, the network wants to focus more on wrestling and, reality tv.
Babylon 5 later produced "B5: The Legend of the Rangers" and, "Babylon 5: Voices in the Dark". The latter being primarily greenscreen.
BSG currently has "BSG: Blood & Chrome" in production being produced primarily greenscreened.

"You are the beggining of the story, the middle of the story, and the end of the story that creates the next great story." Zathras - Babylon 5
"All this has happened before and, will happen again." - BSG

A big problem with prequels is that they introduce elements that aren't even hinted at in the original and, are often at odds with the previous story. Midichlorians in Phantom Menace. STO in Caprica. Wolverine loosing his memory long after the adanmantium procedure.

Sure these things can be filed away with enough hands in ears and, "blah, blah, blah." Adama conveniently forgets the terrorists group that killed his sister. Caused his Father to become neglectfull to him. Forcing him to find an emotional out in the mob. No he's perfectly fine with his Dad and, doesn't mind the resurgence of the same ideals behind his sisters death.
Wolverine despite being tormented with the vision of the adanmantium procedure lost his memory long after that after being shot in the head in an open field. No that bullet wouldn't have caught the attention of Magneto at all when he raised him. Despite Magneto's ability to detect minute bits of metal in the bloodstream.
Midichlorians ... well you know.

All these things and, more give you the sense that if it happened than why wasn't it mentioned at all in the 'future' stories?
It's not so much that the most likely people to mention such things don't mention it in the originals. It's that no one does.
Xavier doesn't remark on the oddity of a bullet in Logan's brain and, subsequent hole which would show up on the X-ray he did. Striker forgets a method to apprehend Logan.

No one in BSG remembers the multi-planet religion with media presense due to terrorists attacks.
Nothing about Midichlorians from Vader, Obi-wan, Yoda, or the Emperor.

The teen characters were only in it for about a ninth of the screen time...you seem to be describing the pilot episode, where they feature more prominently because the MAGLEV bombing is a major plot point in the pilot and first few episodes.

It's clearly explained that the whole of Caprican society is so hideously jaded and apathetic (using technology to play out human sacrifice, crime, rape, robbery fantasies etc) that this horrifies a minority drawn from a broad cross section of their culture (the teens are teens because Sister Willow is using her position as a teacher to spot potential converts and get them primed to blow up stuff there are STO members of every age and class and they are only it when the plot demands it).

No, I'm describing what the entire thing felt to me. A bunch of emo kids is an analogy.

I can see the appeal of New Cap City in V-World (and Caprican society as a whole).

In V-World anything is possible and so it's boring as hell, in New Cap City there is virtual danger and the rules are not defined (you could get locked out of a game you are really enjoying) it has some of the freedom of V-World with some of the consequences of the real world. The mysterious designer of the game seems to have a bit of a God complex (though I'm sure it doesn't like being called that). It made me wonder if the God thing saw our reality in the same way that Capricans saw New Cap City.

The bulk of the plot concentrates around the adult characters as you say we hardly get to see Zoe-A because the character is redundant, Zoe-B is much more important as she has to break away from being just a faded photocopy of the dead girl and become herself.

When a series is split up like this one was first impressions probably count more than they normally would.

Huh? I think you misread my post entirely. I used "Zoe-A" as short for "Zoe's Avatar". Also, "v-world" in reference to "new cap city" please re-read my post with that in mind.

If SyFy can't afford it, they should shop around.

Won't happen. BSG and, Caprica respectfully are owned by Universal who owns Syfy. Glen A. Larson owns the movie production rights to BSG and, any subsequent spin-off. It's Universal who's putting an end to this series. Glen A. Larson has only wanted to do a continuation of TOS for about a decade. Ron Moore and, company are merely employees who own very little in the grand scheme of things. They are the ones likely to want to shop around to other networks but, it's like expecting JJ. Abrams to shop around for more Star Trek. So, unless fans of this series can prove it'll be profitable to continue the series it'll never be ressurected. It's not impossible though. If you're able to gather a mass of fans buying the DVDs at once, post it to Youtube or, otherwise draw attention to yourselves. That'll show them it's worth continuing. An apple send campaign just shows your willing to buy apples. Unless they litterally get more individually sent apples then Nielson ratings I doubt it'll make much of a difference.

All in all my biggest dissapointment with BSG and, Caprica is that in 2007 Ron Moore really had a better idea then what eventually came out into episodes.

Ron Moore said:

I sort of developed this idea that the Cylons had as they and, their as their development grew, grown. Sort of you know their beings what it meant to be sentient and, self aware and, to be a thinking uh, person. They developed a theology. That they'd developed an idea in one true God. That spoke to them and, was a God of love. And that essentially in, in their view looked upon the Cylons as the next step in evolution. That their God had created Man. Man was a flawed creation. Man creates Cylon. Cylon is a perfect, more perfect creation. Then the Cylons need to destroy the old bad creation. To, to uh, fulfill God's plan and, that was essentially what the Cylons were about.

Cavil's parent issues, STO on Caprica before the Cylons go to war, even the final five backstory takes away from this. This idea he had in 2007 is far better in my oppinion then what we got. It sounds more like a plan too then what was eventually revealed.

CAPRICA: The Resurrection!
Time

Personally I didn't like Caprica. The story felt like a whole group of emo kids in a room cutting themselves because, mommy didn't get them a car they wanted. I mean mabye some episode cleared things up that I didn't see but, I watched the majority of it. From what I saw some kid with zero motavation blew up his girlfriend on the train and, the religous organization just kills... to kill. I mean was there some kind of oppresion I missed? Sure there was a bit of hate but, from what I've seen it was justified. The only two members I saw not be gung ho about killing people were Clarice and, Zoe. Even then the other members just wanted to kill them. It was a failed allagory for opposing religous beliefs. They wanted death at the hands of the seen by majority "bad" religous group but, didn't give us much of a reason to see their side. By making the majority of those within the organization killers who plant bombs everywhere it's hard to see their side of the issue.

Further, Joe's quest to see a digital file created by Daniel through a google search was just depressing and, suffered an anti-climatic end.

Plus, the v-world was poorely handled. I mean an underground, hacked, virtual reality has the following stupid rules. 1 you die once your blocked from re-entry. 2 you apparently have to hold a job in this thing. 3 it's too damn real. They go through this trouble creating this video game that's illegal so that the majority of it you're just sitting around looking at "guns" your holding for your "boss". Sure there's the sex part but, why the fuck would you stick around after that? Most people would realistically jack in go to the sex rooms. Then go back out into another game where they can kill and, be killed and, respawn. Then if they wanted to chat they'd go to a game where they can chat without getting blocked by some troll who decided to go on a shooting spree. Sex aside it didn't seem fun to be in at all.

Super genius kid story. Yeah an emo rich girl Wesley Crusher basically. Who we barely get to know before she's killed. In her few minutes of screentime she's a brat who doesn't at all appreciate the work her parents do to keep a roof over her head. I know it's not unrealistic but, my gripe about this is this character's death was the anchor for the entire series. It's the motavation for Zoe-A, Lacey, Daniel, damn near everyone. From what little was shown she's an unlikeable brat who just wanted to run away. I mean at least Wesley used his smarts to save the ship several times. Zoe? Oh, "I don't like my life despite being a healthy born rich person with intelligence and, several options available to me being a Caprican native. My life fucking sucks 'cause I believe in one God. Run away time!!!!"

I personally won't be an active part in getting Caprica back on the the air because, I didn't like it.

That said there were positives to the series. Good performances, well written dialogue overuse of "frack" aside, and gave Eric Stolz a paycheck. Apart from that I didn't like it. The pacing was poor and, too many story points were just dropped.

If anyone does want to save the series an apple send campaign is unlikely to work. You'd have to do something big. Get a few hundred fans and, a star of the series to go to a store with you and, buy the DVDs. Record it and, post it to Youtube to get it viral. The Subway campaign worked for Chuck. Want to save Caprica? Do something akin to that.

Moreover, Lucas recently committed to Warren Buffet's Giving Pledge—he's going to donate at least half of his money, billions of dollars, to charity when he dies. Not just any charity, either, but his own: Edutopia: the George Lucas Educational Foundation.

Star Wars is going to pay for the education of many future children.

.... I think we all missed the point. This man who's determined to rewrite film history and, continually lie about what he originally intended. Owns an educational foundation. The future is doomed.

Watching The Godfather for the first time tonight. I'm a little tired, so hopefully I make it all the way through - I'm sure someone would literally kill me if I fell asleep during it.

My first viewing of "The Godfather" I did the following. Told my family not to bother me for several hours 'cause I was going to watch it and, didn't want to be disturbed. Turned off any cell phones. Used the restroom beforehand. Ate beforehand. Took a nap beforehand. Used headphones and, sat in a comfy chair. Put the rented DVD in. Turned off the lights. Then, as I was getting into it, a damn scratch on the DVD fucks up my entire viewing experience!!! The first time I saw litterally anything from "The Godfather" in my entire life and, it was ruined. Scratch took out the majority of the film. I was so dissapointed.

Also, looks like I'm on perma-ignore from this JT34 bloke I never even communicated with beforehand. Ah well. He misses out on my fantastic mini stories I think up from lack of sleep. I'll try to stay awake for two days again for you guys. I took a nap earlier so my muse ain't there right now. I kind of wonder what things I would think of if I ever took LSD or, acid. Given what I think of simply from lack of sleep it'd probably be so incomprehensible. That the sheer outragousness of it would likely give anyone a headache.
