NJVC Custom Blu-ray Set of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions now available on Mega

To any of the many people who have successfully set up proboard accounts, did anybody run into the problems people are describing in the last few pages?

No problems whatsoever (using the version of the instructions approximately two weeks ago from the date of the posting). Proboards account and Mega downloading all working A-Ok.

I am still looking for the Pulp Empire edit however.

Harmy has put up a video on youtube - just to remind everyone that Fan Edits must never be bought or sold.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrwKZHv4OS0

Personally, as a member here, I’d encourage everyone to watch it and upvote that video.

Watched and upvoted. Also, because of these fan edits I was actually encouraged to now start collecting official Steelbook’s of all the original films. So you could say it was the work of these fan editors which caused me to go out and buy the originals, not the other way around. lol

Hal, I know you excised the Phasma fight completely or had plans to do so. I did the same in my edit and the transition itself works well, but when I watched it back in the context of the entire film, their escape from the Dreadnaught felt empty and lacking to me.

Wondering if anyone here has had a similar feeling about that. I’m probably just overthinking it, though.

Have any editors attempted to add the deleted Phasma scene from the BD into the movie?

I don’t know if anyone ever worked up a Pulp Empire Disc ISO with menus and such, though I could be mistaken.

But I can send you a link to download just the movie file. I will have to send you that in a private message (PM for short), however, as download links are not allowed in the public threads.

May I toss my hat in the ring for this PM from you as well? 😃

Thanks for these btw, I am very excited. I have been working on creating a box set of my favorite edits together in the Machete order, but as I just came across this compilation I am now ALSO creating a box set for these three specialized editions. And the Pulp Empire? I’ve not seen it. That just seems like the icing on the cake! 😄

Hi, I was wondering how to put the disc label on the Blu-Rays? How do I print the inserts on double sided glossy paper? Also, I’m so happy to see these being made and yes I won’t but it on eBay and will buy the Offical ones first. 😄

Thanks 😄

While it is a bit costly, if you print out your labels with Avery.com they send you the labels in a peel and stick format which you can stick on a disk using a jewel case, or you can purchase their round applicator if you are doing a lot at once. Cheers!

I’m very reluctant to crop off the broom boy ending because to me it just feels so very ‘fan edit-y’ and inauthentic in a way I can’t put my finger on. Star Wars movies always end with a scene without any dialogue, and even if Canto Bight is hardly there, the meaning of the final scene would still read easily.

Hal, I completely agree with you on this. Ending on the Falcon feels rushed to me and just kind of small.

The broom boy scene works so well not because it pays off the fathier scenes, but because it pays off Luke’s sacrifice. Luke accepting his legend and using it to inspire others gives his actions such weight and scope. It’s just epic. And it plays wonderfully after Rey herself expresses doubt about the fate of the rebellion.

Without that end scene, you lose the scale of what Luke has done. He didn’t just save our heroes, he rekindled the rebel spirit.

(Hal, I would also be grateful to see an early rough cut when it is ready!)

The imagery of the boy holding the broom like a lightsaber speaks to the child in all of us. It’s a real Disney moment, but it’s what they are really good at. It gave me goosebumps when I saw it in theaters.

I haven’t sat down and watched any sort of draft of this edit yet myself, but hopefully it works well to transition directly from Finn and Rose leaving the cell to hyperspace.
Transitioning from that scene back to Luke on the island and then from Luke back to the Resistance fleet works very well IMHO. But, we will have to see.

The ‘extensive’ removal of Canto Bight is official on trial status, but I reserve the right to determine that it is not working and include more of it. I stand by my opinion that an editor needs to get Billy Dee Williams or a stand in so that Lando can be the gambler with the lapel pin that Finn and Rose were supposed to meet. I know I sound like a broken record because I have said this so many times in the Internet! lol

I hope you realize how hopelessly impossible this would be for any editor to do LOL

Yes, of course. lol It is a silly pipe dream. I am still amazed that editors build sets and have cosplayers stand in to re-shoot scenes for continuity errors. The skill and dedication is incredible.

These clips share the same weirdness of Rey and Leia, then cutting to the Falcon exterior, then back to the group shot.

On repeat viewing, I must agree. I think just rescoring and replacing soundFX to end on the group shot is the best solution.

Or just end it with the Falcon flying away. I don’t see everyone’s problem with that.

That ending of the Falcon flying away would be reminiscent of the end of Empire Strikes Back, a nice callback.

(I probably should have made all these replies in one post, apologies everyone)

Hal, I was looking over your cutlist and liked the idea of cutting Luke saying “Nothing will change my mind”. It did sound a bit childish in theaters and you made a good point about connecting the two static shots of R2 so I tried it out and wonder what everyone thinks.

https://vimeo.com/266454365

I feel like in this scene you could have gotten the same effect (sorrynotsorry Rian, I am not a film director, not stepping on your toes) by just having Luke frown and make a disgusted face (Hamill has a very expressive face) rather than Luke saying any lines.

There is a long standing debate about making a movie for a shock value and making a movie to stand the test of time and I feel like Luke’s line at this moment is just to deliver the shock value of R2-D2 one-upping him… but it only works once and after that it pulls you out of the scene.

Thanks for the injection of enthusiasm! I’ve commented elsewhere that I see the importance of Luke choosing to use the image of the saber he rejected at the beginning of the movie. When TFA came out I said I’d have rather the green saber been the macguffin than digging Anakin’s out from the void. I get why it’d be desirable, but why open that can of worms?
But, given that TFA gives us Anakin’s and that Luke rejects it at the start of TLJ, it’s right that he should wield its image at the climax.

That is a really great point. Hmmm… I am going to ponder on that one for awhile. I like where your head is at though.

9000 Series - Star Wars Custom Special Edition
Time

Enduringhero said:

Hey Hal,

So after watching Rogue One, I decided to re-watch Labyrinth of Evil, and the 9000 Series of New Hope. Let me just say that I have never been so satisfied with how cohesive everything is! Things that I thought might jeopardize the continuity between the three films isn’t an issue at all! The whole thing flows very nicely and I love the reworked sounds on Ep III and the preservation of some of the “good” CGI on New Hope.

Thank you so much for your hard work, your versions of these films are my standard for this franchise.

-EnduringHero

So, my favorite Star Wars marathon now is the Machete order

Star Wars A New Hope Revisited (Adywan)
Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back Revisited (Adywan)
Star Wars Approaching Storm (hal9000)
Star Wars Labyrinth of Evil (hal9000)
Star Wars Return of the Jedi a Q2 edit (similar to the despecialized)
Star Wars The Force Awakens Restructured (hal9000)

I have not been glued to the screen and binged movies this quickly in a very long time. Currently I am creating the highest quality Blu-ray disk set of all of these, while still waiting on Adywan to re-do his edits with HD. I will need to check out hal9000’s version of ANH. I am still looking for edits of Rogue One and The Last Jedi which will fit with my style of enjoyment - some things I wouldn’t want cut from edits are cut while other things are. Fingers crossed for hal9000 versions of those!

I know this is an older thread I found while browsing for something else… #sorrynotsorry lol

On the off chance that I might be right, I poked in here to see if Hal9000 was doing an edit… YES!

I haven’t read the entire thread yet… I’ll get to that so apologies if this has been said. Would it be possible to change Luke’s Force projection saber color green? Rotoscoping or whatever magic editors use? I guess I am in a small minority of people who were hoping for the green, and to be quite honest, no offence to Rian’s vision, there are SO MANY hints that Luke isn’t there and three weeks after the movie is released everyone knows. But it would be cool to re-watch the final confrontation and see Luke ignite the green like he did on Jabba’s sail barge.

Cheers! Subscribing!

Thanks for the kind words, and I am glad you enjoyed them!
Where are you only seeing DVD versions listed? There should be at least three options.

Of course you are welcome!

Okay, so I went to your Google drive and from there obtained the zip files, which I linked to from the Reddit Restructured V.2 post. The options are 720p, 1080p, and DVD5 for all of your edits.

Yes thanks, thanks to everyone who responded. I have it sorted.

V2 is amazing Hal. This is probably my favorite Star Wars movie to rewatch now, Empire still being the one which impacted me the most, but this one is a hell of a lot of fun. Let me just take another moment to say, your Ep. II and III are also great, thanks for that work! I watched through the Machete order for the first time using the Revisited edits and your edits together - such a good time.

Honestly, Rey could be asking for Kylo to grab a cowl because she is just interested in what is south of his neck? lol

In all seriousness, good luck with the efforts on this! The Machete view order with your episode II and III and Adywan’s IV and V is definitive as far as I am concerned, and TFA edit you did really does enhance my enjoyment of it quite a bit. Looking forward to seeing where this next edit leads…

(And if I may make a shameless request to the community, please load up your HAL9000 DVD5 torrents! I am trying to make physical copies of everything. Cheers!)

Based on the YouTube clips, I will not be using any of the deleted scenes footage for my edit. Most of them are superfluous or silly. The only clip that I could see being salvaged is Luke mourning Han’s death. However, that would mean going from a shot with Rey and Chewie in it to a shot of him mourning. Either that, or I would need to find a scene later on where I can cut to Luke alone in his hut.

On a side note, I never thought I’d see Rose biting Hux’s finger or Tom Hardy as a stormtrooper spanking Finn.

The funny thing is, in the commentary Rian says that they were able to take away the shot of Rose biting the finger “because she is already strong enough of a character to not need this scene”. Rian thinks this scene makes her look strong. Way to go lol!

Any chance of getting Billy Dee Williams to help create a scene so that Lando can be the gambler wearing the lapel pin? lol

Hello! I was looking for this fan edit to download and give it a try - the Battle of Scarif fan edit is just that, only the battle and I feel that the art and style of this movie is way too good to cut down the movie to only the edit. Trouble is, it doesn’t seem possible to download from the provided link. I also couldn’t find this on the Fanedit.info site. Anyone know what’s up?

Late to the party, but one thing I’d love to have seen done is change the sound effects of the shield gate’s turbolaser towers to the same sound effect as the towers in ANH instead of the TFA era “pew pew”

As a fan of the psuedo-science of Star Wars this has also bothered me. Continuity Lucasfilm! Come on!

Hmmmm… Alright. Should I look for the link in Reddit then and not from FanEdit.info? The torrent pack I downloaded came from the later location.

EDIT: Seems the Google Drive location does specify that is it 2.1 so it is very possible that the Torrent version has not been updated, or maybe the tracker is wrong. Downloading from the Google drive link now. Thanks for the replies!

TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)
Time

Hello mates! I just registered, though I have been reading in this forum for a couple of years. I just tried out the 1080p version of TFA: A Gentle Restructure and to my surprise it appears to be the original movie. I made it as far as the Falcon leaving Jakku and it never jumped into Hyperspace. Rather than continue I thought I should inquire here. I used the link from the Fan Edits .info site but I have not tried the DVD5 or the 720p version. Can anyone clue me in on what is up? I will go back and read through this thread but… 74 pages. It might take me awhile. lol
