Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta

And I really liked the movie a lot. It does a good job of adapting the Alan Moore graphic novel. Of course, some corners had to be cut, but the themes and the message about public complacency and fascism is still there. I managed to catch it with a preview audience during Wondercon. Even got a few Guy Falkes masks out of it. I'll be seeing it again on opening night on an IMAX screen.
And if you go there expecting an action comic book movie just because it's based on a comic book you'll be disappointed. It is a thoughtful science fiction film that has a lot to say about what direction the world could head toward if we let it.

I think it could symbolyze our struggle to preserve the O-OT when the powers that be do their best to re-write history and say they don't exist. Of course I wouldn't go so far as to blow up Skywalker Ranch, like V wanting to blow up Parlaiment.

Sweet. I love comic book movies in all their forms. Just watched Hulk and Unbreakable today...

Superman Movie

I personally hated the movie, and one of the reasons I hated it was because that, after doing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and things like that, it seemed like he tried to incorporate lots of mystical elements into a movie that really didn't need them, such as his father turning into a storm. That was a major WTF moment for me.

And it wasn't the fact that he added too much human elements, it's the fact that he failed to make it interesting. Batman Begins didn't have that problem.

I'd give it a 2 out of 5.

I don't agree with you, but I respect your reasons. I thought he had bags of visual style - especially with the multiple shots in frames on-screen. I loved the mysticism too - after all, aren't superheroes our modern mythology? The emotional focus of the movie was exactly what the Hulk needed, IMHO - the love story was unconventional and realistic - and isn't the Hulk all about repressed feelings and anger? I think so. Anyway, moving on.

I believe that, along with Batman, Batman Returns, and Superman I & II, Unbreakable ranks among the greatest comic-book movies ever created - and it's not even based on a real comic-book! I just saw it for the second (and third) time today, and I thought it was brilliant. Such awesome concepts...

Jesus Cartoon controversy

Seems like there's always some Jesus controversy, isn't there?

It's because there is so many damn Christians. If you make one offensive comment, they all get pissed off.

Let's be reasonable, though, Sean. If a cartoon depicted someone you believe to be your Lord and Saviour - God Himself - in the act of bestiality, don't you think you'd have the right to be pissed off?

Even if it was a cartoon of Ghandi screwing a camel or something, I would understand an Indian/Ghandi admirer taking offense to that (not to mention be disappointed myself).

If I saw a cartoon of Mohammed committing despicable acts, I would be offended and disappointed by that, too - the point is, it's unsolicited and disrespectful.

Obviously nothing like this gives someone the right to go postal or anything like that...but certainly the right to take offense.

I believe I am guilty of posting at least twice regarding the subject of cheesecake. I, however, have no idea as to how many non-Cheesecake-related posts I have made. That's why I post in the 'Rankings' thread: to see how many posts I have made!

Something I have to ask - is the Flash movie any good? Which Flash is in it?

Barry Allen, played by John Wesley Shipp.

Yeah, so is it good?!

I watched Ang Lee's Hulk today, and in all honesty, I thought the criticism of this movie was completely unwarranted (too much sulking, not enough hulking - there was plenty of hulking!). I reckon Ang Lee 'gets' what comics and superheroes are all about. The movie gets *at least* three and a half stars outta me. Better than the Spiderman movies, definitely, IMHO.

I don't think he ever did answer my question...does anyone know whether or not PSYCHO_DAYV just leaves a rock on his capslock button? Or does he have to turn it on every morning? Or...heaven forbid, does he use the SHIFT button?!

Oh, and I had to learn this the HARD, HARD, EXTREME HARD, last-stage-of-battletoads-for-nes-HARD way. Had the same problem. In fact, if there is one thing I've learned about women is that, whatever the hell they want, it's not me. So since all of you out there are NOT me, you guys have a chance.

LOL @ the Battletoads analogy - but I have to say that all of you guys out there, have a chance with any women you want, if you're willing to work hard enough on being an interesting person. If you cultivate your confidence and your humour and combine them in your interactions with women, you will find it difficult to get rid of them, and that's the honest truth. Women aren't looking for other girls in men - they're looking for men - so stop being the wussy, doormat, shoulder-to-cry-on, and get out there and be a man - and a confident and funny one at that.

I've seen men in wheelchairs, fat guys with false teeth, and old men hook in with hot, young lasses, and all for the same reasons - they were cocky and funny. Women are attracted to the inner man, so stop making excuses as to why you can't have success with women, and start being the confident, funny man that every woman wants to be with.
