MOST OF US ARE THAT WAY. I HATE IT TOO.

Glad I'm not alone.

I also hate it that there's going to be an Indiana Jones 4 and/or that there's going to be a Jurassic Park 4. As far as Indy's concern, it's been too long and once you've reconciled with your neglectful father, you've pretty much come full circle. As for Jurassic Park... the dinos are exitnct. Let's leave 'em that way.

So true about the coming full circle...and Jurassic Park pretty much covered its entire thematic and ethical ground in the first movie - dinosaurs in a park for people's entertainment all in the name of science, science meddling with things they can't understand, nature will prevail/find a way, yada yada yada...

I don't understand why so many conservatives are complaining about this thing. It is basically saing what conseratvies have been saying for years: big government = BAD. Security at the price of lbasic iberty = BAD.

At least that seems to be the message it was trying to state.

Conservatives say that for real? I would've thought not given the Bush administration's Patriot Act and so forth (an American Conservative seems to be quite a bit different from an Australian one, so I wouldn't really know...).

Very few people know this, but in the late 40s there was a major movement to make Esperanto the official language around the world. They even had set a date for the change, something like 1960. During this hype, my grandmother started learning it, she can speak it.

In case you don't know, Esperanto is a fabricated language, created in the XIX century to serve as a universal language. It is simple to learn, and a lot of enthusiasts speak it nowadays. There are several books written on it, and even a few films spoken in Esperanto. It's mostly used as a device to meet people, create groups, and stuff like that.
I've heard that before. I cannot remember where, but I know I've heard about the language and the idea of making it universal.

It's supposed to be the easiest language to learn - and I think they were trying to use it in the UN as well.

I studied French, and I am *nearly* fluent in Japanese. Lived in Osaka for 3 weeks a few months back - spent the first week remembering all the stuff I had forgotten, and then the next two learning new stuff. If I was there for a few more weeks I would have got there, but at present I can at least say whatever I want if I think hard enough. I gave up trying to memorise kanji eventually (although I did learn a whole tonne reading names of towns on road signs) - I found it more beneficial figuring out how they're made up, and how to work out the meanings and readings of complex kanji.

ROTJ is Luke or Anakin?
Time
I'm sure you could argue it either way. I think that at the beginning of the movie, we are lead to believe that it is Luke - it's like, "Look, Luke's back, and now he's a Jedi Knight!".

But Yoda and Obi-wan throw us off-track after that - they tell Luke that he's not a Jedi until he confronts and defeats Vader. HOWEVER, I think we can all agree that Yoda and Obi-wan were mistaken about Vader - there was still good in him - and Luke was right.

So by the end of the movie, I believe that the revelation we are supposed to have is that the 'Jedi' that returned was Anakin. He came back and put things right.

But having said all this, I believe the title was chosen so that it could be interpreted all three ways: the 'Jedi' as Luke, Anakin, and the Jedi Order as a whole. My rewrite of Episode III is going to be called 'Fall of the Jedi', which operates on the same notion.

I have both Alpha and Alpha 2 for the Saturn. Saturn controllers = SFII godliness.

AMEN, BROTHER!

It pisses me off so much seeing all these 4-face-button controllers these days. And all the crappy d-pads make it nigh-on impossible to play a Capcom game properly since the Saturn.

I voted Alpha 3 because it's like Alpha 2 with Blanka (my favourite character). But if Alpha 2 had Blanka I'd vote it over 3 by virtue of the fact that I can play it on my Saturn. Confused yet?

Hot-damn! I wanna go to one of those!

Then apply! Maybe I'd see you there.

By the way, the screenwriting one I'm going to, apparently there's plenty of room left. PLENTY of room.

Haha - dude, I've got no chance! I'd have to buy a plane ticket back to the US for one!

I reallly think Morena Bacarin who played Inara on Firefly and Serenity should be Wonder Woman.

Interesting thing last year at the Serenity panale, a fan said told Gina Torres she was an awesome actress always playing such strong female characters (she's about 5'11") and would be perfect for Wonder Woman. Joss Whedon said "I don't know, she may have to fight over it with Morena." Could have been a joke, coulda been a hint.

Yeah I know, but she'll always be jailbait to me. Same with Hilary Duff. And I'm only a few years older than both of 'em...guess I just thought they were posing WAAAY too early...

Nah, China is like the Giant Panda that *could* rip every other animals' arms out of their sockets, but instead chooses to sleep on its furry ass for thousands of years.

Seriously, they have been sitting on world-conquering potential for millenia. Gunpowder for one. Oh, and then there's the billions of people, who, if in a concerted effort all got up on a table and jumped on the ground at the same time, could create the world's largest earthquake.

The Christmas drama is my personal favorite. But you can always count on someone over there to get offended every time TFN, an American-run site, celebrates an American holiday.

The retarded thing is, St. Patrick's Day isn't an exclusively American holiday. We even have it in Australia. This guy's just a retard.

You'll notice I haven't made any value statements on the Mormons or polygamy. For the record, the Mormons I've known -- and there have been several -- have been generally better people than most mainstream Christians. I may wholly disagree with their religious beliefs, but I can't say that their religion hasn't made them good people. Regarding polygamy, I find it far easier to support than gay marriage. Solomon, the wisest king in the Bible, was said to have a harem of 1,000 wives, so the ban on polygamy isn't biblically motivated. So long as all parties are legal adults and willing participants (i.e. no "secret" wives) I find a law banning it just another form of government intrusion into privacy. It serves no purpose other than to keep some lucky or industrious guys from hogging all the chicks while the loser from High School gets none. That guy had to go into politics and create a law in order to get his fair share.

The great irony is how many men in society fantasize about multiple female partners. I guess that's okay for a one night stand or shooting a porno, but a lifelong commitment? Stopping that evil threat is an important use of our time, energy and resources.

But getting back to the topic at hand, Scientology is just plain nuts. I'll make that value statement here and now. On the whole I'm extremely tolerant of other faiths. But unlike what I said above about Mormons and their genuine goodness in my experience, I have yet to see a Scientologist I respect, much less like. Founded by a crackpot, it's a self-help clique with a pyramid structure that is based on falsehood, paranoia, deception and greed. The religion is not spiritual. The science is not scientific. Retention tactics breed paranoia within the ranks. And the recruitment methods make it the Amway of religion.

When was the last time you saw a Scientology missionary go to the destitute section of town to help heal those who clearly need the most entheta cleared from their soul? Never. Because they don't care about the spiritual well-being of the whole world. It's about money and social status. There's a reason why the Church of Scientology is based in Beverly Hills and not Compton.

I have degrees in Psychology AND Religion. Scientology purports to be both but it is neither. Not by a long shot. Tom Cruise, you don't know Psychology. You don't know the History of Psychology. I do. You and your Scientologist buddies are a cancer on rational thinking. It is even more medically irresponsible than Christian Science, because it doesn't rely on faith to heal, it relies on falsehoods. Fellas, the lava from the implant stations ain't got nothin' on what awaits you in the afterlife. Have you no shame? Have you NO shame?

LOL @ the Amway reference, dude...I would be wary, though, of basing your assessment of a religion's credibility on the behaviour of its adherents. There is no doubt a place on this Earth where self-professed "Christians" are antagonising another group of people - that doesn't mean that Christianity is a dodgy religion.

By all means, break down the beliefs and have a go at it for what it is, but if the legitimacy of Christianity was to be determined according to the behaviour of Christians, we'd be screwed...
