Yes, there is less detail. However, when seen at full resolution, and with some color correction, you get a much more accurate idea.

I'm not sure about the VHS sources, because we didn't use any. I guess they match some of the laserdisc ones also.

You are looking at more than 50% reduction in the picture horizontically and vertically. This is meant as a broad comparison of versions, not an indicator of detail or resolution.

Basically, it will be theatrically cropped. You might see a little bit more, but not the whole picture as is.
